G&M Plumbing (Joe Derusha) pulled a permit for a home I now own when a prior owner had a renovation done. We discovered that the permits from the remodel were left open, and when we sorted it out with the city of Austin's permit office, we were told by the city employee who managed this specific permit, "The plumber on this job quit."

Fast forward another year or so, and a pipe falls off under the slab of our home, causing a leak, and, as it turns out, because it was never properly fastened to the tub. After a day of excavating the problem area, our current plumber tells us the pipes under the bathroom need to be completely redone, because they are not to code - lots of 90º angles, pipes sloping in the wrong direction, etc. Our plumber was really curious about who the hell did such a crappy job on these pipes the last time. I looked it up for him, and, according to the permit on file with the city of Austin, it was these people.

Our current plumber maintains that if Joe Derusha took out the permit, it was on him to make sure appropriate work was done on this home, and to not walk away from work that he initiated.

It's too bad that companies like this tarnish there otherwise mostly good reviews by something so simple as not recording an appointment on a calendar.

I spoke to a lady at their number, 512-990-0505, at exactly 4:33 pm on Friday, May 29, 2015 (thanks easy iPhone call log). I asked about scheduling an estimate for the installation of plumbing needed for a water softener install. She told me that they were all backed up due to the recent flooding, but that someone could come out the following Friday (today) between 8 and 9 am. I said that sounded good and to make the appointment. All good so far...

I took off work this morning (no easy thing to do for me) to be at home waiting for the plumber. Nobody showed and nobody called. When I called to ask what the deal was, she (I think the same lady I'd originally made the appointment with) checked the schedule and I was told that I wasn't on the schedule but that someone could come out on Monday instead. No thanks. The lady was apologetic, but that does nothing for my time (and pay) that was wasted. If they can't record a simple calendar entry, I can't imagine what the plumbing work would be like. Too bad...

G & M plumbing has been a great new discovery for me. They have excellent customer service and fixed all of my plumbing issues from a cracked drain line, to hydrostatic tests, and patching in the concrete. Their customer service is outstanding and I will continue to use them as my go to plumbing service. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work.

G&M provided a prompt, incredibly courteous, quality repair. Further, their price was amazingly competitive even when I would have considered myself bent over a barrel --- finding a near emergency repair required. I will never use a different plumbing service and can't give them a strong enough recommendation to express my praise for their work.

Honest, straightforward craftsmen do exist, they are at G&M.

The foundation repair company, Centex, recommended G & M to me to perform what I thought would be a routine pressure test that is required after foundation repair. I also needed a faucet replaced. Lucy at G and M quoted me their standard price for the pressure test , which was lower than the price quoted by the large plumbing company with the whole-page ad in the Yellow Pages that I had been using in the past. Lucy also gave me a very low price for the faucet replacement, since they would be at the house.

It's plumbing! Combined with foundation repair! The routine pressure test turned into a 4-day job because the sewer line was broken under the house. The faucet repair was quickly finished, but the under-the-house work was extensive.

Gus, Eric, and Lucy were always pleasant, willing to explain things, and hardworking! They might not even believe I noticed, because I was so stressed out! They were great to work with, even through my gloom at finding leaks and fixing them and then finding more leaks further under the house.

One of the most outstanding aspects of G & M is Lucy, who takes care of the phone calls and billing. She was always easy to reach! She answered the phone! I called several times and reached her directly, and I think I might have reached her voicemail only once during that week, and she returned my call very quickly. Even after the job was done and I had paid, Lucy answered emails and phone calls when I had some questions about the billing. G & M helped me with an insurance claim by preparing a map of the sewer line. Lucy worked with email and pdf files. The paperwork was somewhat minimal and included a one-line disclaimer that no one could understand, written in "plumberese," I guess.

Gus and Eric and their helper, whose name I didn't get, worked long hours to get the job finished. They let me watch their tedious work with the camera. They spent a long time looking through the pipes with the camera to find that last leak - they had to close off sections of piping with their tools to form pressured areas to figure out where the leak was - way under the garage at the far end of the house. They had to break through the concrete garage floor to fix that one. They patched the concrete very nicely. Finally the house passed the pressure test!

If you have to call a plumber, I recommend G & M!

These guys were lifesavers! We had a renthouse built in `61 and sank ALL of our savings into a refurbishment, including new HVAC, floor, roof, paint in/out, fence, landscape, remodeled bathrooms, electric, water heater, textured ceiling, covered patio and recessed lighting. Had a terrific offer from the first person visitor, but they wanted a complete plumbing drain test. And it failed miserably, even though there was never a drain issue and we were tapped out. The house was built on a slab. The first few plumbers guys we called wanted to jackhammer thru the new flooring. The foundation guys wanted to tunnel thru the underside. All quotes were over $24k. We were crushed. We got a referral on G&M and all was good. Lucy was friendly and helpful, the Gustavo and the guys were there the next day and gave a quote of $17k for the tunneling option. Not only that: they would wait until after the closing to get paid. So awesome! The job took a week to do, and they arranged all permits and inspections, tunneled from one end of the house to the other, sent photos of the progress and spread the excess diggings over the low areas of the yard. The house reinspection passed with flying colors, the house sold for the higher price, and G&M was paid at closing. Highly recommended. They will do my next house recon without question... " )

Need a plumber? Big job? Little job? Do yourself a favor. Call G&M Plumbing and literally, all your worries will go down the drain.

I learned this the hard way. The plumbing job I needed was as big as it gets: an entire new sewer line: Two words: Orangeburg pipe. If your house was built in the 50s, then the odds are good this is the type of sewer pipes you have too, and the bad news is that clock is ticking on its useful life. Mine made it to 65 years which is about the average. After receiving three bids, I hired a big company for the job thinking that it would give me the best service and warranty. But for whatever reason they were unable to perform and after a month of excuses, I fired them before they even started. I had used Gustavo before for a couple of minor plumbing problems and I was impressed by his work ethic and honesty: he could have easily charged me more on one particular call because I added a second request onto the original one, but because the entire service call was less than an hour he only charged me for the hour, and not even for the supplies needed to complete the second task!

So why wasn't this gem my go-to plumber from the get go? This is a question that haunts me still: For some strange reason I thought that because G&M plumbing is a smaller family-owned company that a job as big as a sewer line replacement would be too big for him. Boy was I wrong. All three of the big companies who gave me bids told me the job would take five days. But Gustavo and his crew had the trench dug and pipe ready for the City inspector in less than eight hours. Yes, you read that right, Gustavo, the plumber himself, was at my house showing off his impressive shovel skills. When Fermin knocked on the door at 8:30 a.m. asking for an electrical outlet for the mighty chipper, I was stunned to see that Gustavo and crew had already hand dug a trench 47 feet long (from my home's clean out to the City clean out.) and 18 inches deep. I went outside to check out the progress and Gussy leaned on the shovel and smiled a beautiful Cool Hand Luke grin at me and said they would be done that day: This is a man who enjoys hard, physical labor. (Gym rats beware: this guy could take any of you on any day.) And true to his word, when I got home from work, the pipe was laid and I only had to wait for the City Inspector (who finished at 10:00 a.m. the following morning. The big companies had all told me I needed to take an entire day off of work to wait for the inspector, but somehow Gustavo was able to give me a four hour time frame and I only missed half a day at the office.) When I got home on that second day of G&M's work, the crew had beautifully back-filled the trench and I could flush my toilet with abandon, do all the laundry and everybody got a bath ... and not in the backyard.

Plumbing: it is a beautiful thing.

Gustavo and his efficient team made this job seem so easy. This is a guy that doesn't goof off or fool around. Are we gonna dig a trench and get this sewer line working or not? With someone like Gustavo there was never a question: get out of his way, you excuse makers and lollygaggers. Gustavo's the one knee deep in the literal doodoo while the other guys were poo-pooing excuses!

I cannot say enough good things about G&M Plumbing. If there was an option to give them a 6-star rating, I would choose it. I hired them to replace 2 sewer drain lines in my 1967 ranch-style home (slab foundation) and also to replace the drain line in the yard, from the cleanout to the street. They were able to start the job ahead of what I had originally anticipated, saving me a ton of stress and money. They also finished the job, including backfill of all holes and passing final city inspection, in under 1 week. In short, they were on it. I was amazed at how quickly and smoothly the entire process went.

I have since called them out again to replace a leaky kitchen faucet - a smaller job which also went very smoothly.

G&M has excellent customer service. They were prompt, efficient and completely reliable. I totally recommend that you use their services and I will definitely be calling them again in the future!

We recently bid for a house and our offer was accepted, and our inspector recommended we do a static test due to the age of the home. With the option period only two days away, G&M were the only ones available. They sent Eric the next day and he was very professional and nice. I even received a call at 7 a.m. letting me know he was on his way. G&M also has the best rate in town, I HIGHLY recommend them!
