Surprised Fry has such a low rating. My two interactions with them to date have been spot on. I thought my sump pump had gone out. Their team spent hours just trying to locate the pump. They finally found it behind builtin cabinets without an access panel. When the pump was determined to be working, Fry spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone discussing options and suggesting that I consider taking some corrective action on my own instead of paying them to do a big job. Seriously couldn't have had a better experience.

They quoted us installation for a water heater. We'd learned after they installed it they have not pulled the permit. They expected us to pull the building permit. When I went down to pay I was told that they had to pull it since they were licensed and done the work. The inspector called them and said pull the permit now or we will fine you. Now we received a bill over-inflated from what the building department charge them. If you go to the building department yourself it is only $44 for a water heater. Always make sure that permits license and insurance is up-to-date with any contractor you let in your home and work on your stuff. We called them because the old Mr. Fry was good . This business has been bought out by someone else who just kept the name.

Expensive Service and Not for your Emergency Situations, you are better of calling another service!

Fry installed a boiler back in 2010 for our Washington DC property. Today (Friday), I called in an emergency situation as it is polar bear cold and the furnace wasn't working. Anna serviced the telephone call (polite and courtesy). After giving her the address, telephone number and name she had difficulty pulling up ""the file"", stating the computer was timing out. She took my information and stated she would callback- she did. When asked how soon could they make it out, she said the earliest was Tuesday. I responded with ""hmmm, that's the earliest you can respond to an emergency situation"". She pondered then stated, we can put you on the waitlist for Tuesday or sooner in the event something opens up. Then, she proceeded to share the cost was $205/ 1st hour and $165/ every 1/2 hour afterwards after hesitantly saying ""if they are to try and make a visit today"".

Excellent service at a reasonable price with straightforward, amiable advice from start to finish.

Would recommend and use again.

Needed a faucet, disposal, and dishwasher hookup after new sink & countertop install. Fry Plumbing advised on first call what pieces to buy (incl. what disposal) and where (gave accurate price comparisons at several hardware stores).

Also discussed care for various other appliances (incl. gas stove and water heater).

Thanks.

I called Fry about a week prior for wiring help with my HVAC system, and an appointment was made for Monday morning. Monday morning comes and they call around 9a to say they will be at my place in about 45 minutes. However, when they asked me to describe my issue, the technician appeared disinterested in seeing the true cause- he was more interested in an easy replacement (which would cost money for a new thermostat)- not even having seen/looked at the possible problems. 45 minutes came and went, and as I was looking up their number to call and cancel, they phoned -about 2.5 hours late- to say they were enroute from a far corner of the city. Since they seemed so disinterested, and got defensive when I asked why they hadn't called to let me know they were running late, I told them to forget it. I have been an occasional customer of Fry for nearly 20 years, but no more.

Definitely won't be hiring them again, I made a call for one of my uncles house he has for rent and they had gave me some sort of quote over the phone.. turns out whenever they got done with the job they decided to change the price and the next day It ended up with a leak.
Do not recommend!

Scam.

I called Fry Plumbing to replace my water heater and scheduled an appointment for Thursday morning. We discussed the cost of replacing the heater which was competitive and also discussed an $85 service fee (remember this for later). They did not show up Thursday morning and instead told me the appointment was scheduled for Friday. Fine. Friday morning, the son of owner shows up without equipment, without the additional person it would take to install a new water heater, and without the heater itself. He then tells me he doesn't even specialize in water heaters, he specializes in sewers BUT he believes the problem isn't with the heater he believes it's with the mixing valve. So, he adjusts the temperature the water heater (which I had done before) and he takes a few pictures and says they will get back to me later that day. All in all, he was there for about 5 minutes.

They do not get back to me later that day. I don't hear back until Tuesday when another Fry representative calls me to tell me that he thinks the son's mixing valve theory is completely wrong and that I probably need thermostats but that I should wait and see if it continues to be an issue and they can waive the service fee. I agree and say I'll be sure to call them back with any future issues.

Fast forward two days to when I get a bill for $150. I assumed it was a mistake so I called Fry Plumbing and was told, no, it was not a mistake, $150 is the service minimum (not the $85 I was originally told) and that I was a liar. I was eventually put on the phone with the owner, who continued to tell me I was a liar even after I explained that I was planning to continue to use them for additional plumbing needs and charging me $150 for sending someone with the wrong expertise out to my home for 5 minutes seemed short-sighted because they would be losing me as a customer.

Bottom line:

1. They lie about their prices
2. They do not show up when they are supposed to
3. They send the wrong people without equipment when they do show up
4. Scam to bilk people out of $150 and they have no interest in on-going business relationships.

Called about a leaky radiator and the man I talked to was extremely condescending and called me ""dear."" He seemed knowledgeable and I thanked him for his recommendations, but I'd never call them again.

I contacted four companies for some plumbing work that I needed done. Fry was the only one that I felt had comprehensive pricing. $150 for the first hour, and $110 for each hour after that. It's not cheap, but it was efficient. Scheduling wasn't bad and while Thomas (the plumber who arrived) was a little late both times (25 min) he was hard working, efficient, and you could really tell he wanted to a good job. He needed some parts to finish the job (that I bought and picked up) and split his time over two visits, and didn't charge a premium for doing so. They are local, and I would use them again!

The did a great job and definitely knew their stuff. My only concern was they couldn't really give me an exact price in advance but still, their price was reasonable and I'd use them again.
