I have used Freds for over two years! Their customer service is horrendous, a few are nice, helpful! The technicians are rude & disrespectful! They have over filled my tank on numerous visits, they are grossly over priced! Sometimes you get good heating plumbing specialist! I have had them in a half sized times to fix a heating unit, they could not fix, hit an attitude and was treated with disrespect!
Essentially they just do not care and will speak and treat you however they want!
I would not recommend them to anyone in Vermont!
Jim B.We have been using Fred's for over ten years with no problems. They are available 24 x 7. We know because we called them one time at 2am and they came out and fixed the furnace. Fred's provides plumbing and heating services as well as propane and heating oil. Their building burned two years ago and they rebuilt. The new building is very nice and has a small showroom. We enjoy doing business with Fred's.
Beth B.Fred's came to my home for a simple problem. They did NOT discuss age of my house or pipes before snaking a pipe but after they broke the entire sewer, the age of my home became a hot topic, blaming the fact that my pipes were old on the fact that they destroyed the sewer line. They did NOT talk to me before the procedure, they did not explain that an old house might have fragile pipes, they completely disregarded my integrity as a homeowner. The plumbers tried to leave my home without letting me know what had happened and they wrapped the entire pipe with duct tape. This was a 1/2"" fracture the entire circumference of the sewer line where it met the discharge pipe for washing machine and kitchen sink. Duct tape and no one said anything until I asked if the procedure was a success. The #2 man at Fred's told me this kind of thing 'happens all the time'. If that is the case why didn't they discuss it with me before the fact?
They did not come back to fix it so I had to pay $950 to another plumber to set it right, 12 days after it happened. I have now received a bill for $910 from Freds for the 'work' they did.
I wrote a letter to the owner explaining the situation and he finally responded exactly 30 days AFTER the accident but his response was short, offering no remorse nor resolution nor apology. Fred's proved to be unprofessional every step of the way.
When it was 15 degrees below zero, and I had just been laid-off, they said they would still have to charge me $100 to do a ""pressure check"" and that they simply could not do a ""partial fill-up"" after my tank ran dry.
They would only take payment in cash, check or credit card, and in full. State fuel assistance takes a few weeks for an answer and I had just applied. So, I was made homeless or risk having my pets freeze to death.
I was not asking for alms, I needed heating oil in the middle of winter. But compassion, or just flexibility, seemed too great a cross for them to be bothered with.
