Paul came to my home to quote me a price for an up pump toilet system over two months ago. He spent the better part of 30 minutes taking measurements and talking to me about options but even after repeated calls to the company, no one ever came back with a quote.

My condo association hired this company to check the heating system in my unit. The problem was inconsistent heat between rooms. The repairman spent about 10 min and did the following as described in the invoice:

No heat in one of the bedrooms
Tenant did not think heat was working correctly
Thermostatic valve turned down upon arrival
Turned valve setting higher
Heat working throughout unit
Turned up all the way, fin tube getting very hot
Found heat and thermostatic valve working correctly
Set at medium heat

According to the company, the technician spent 40 minutes in the unit and they charged

Service Call - 1/2 hour : $85
Labor 0.5 : $65
Truck and travel : $35

I called to dispute the Labor, $65, since the technician definitely did not spent more than 30 minutes. But they claimed that the technician called to tell them he spent 40 minutes and that is the only record they have. No signature from me. They also refused to discuss the bill further with me since my condo association management company called them.

As you may read in other reviews, there were more cases of overcharging by this company. If you work with them be sure to get an invoice on site and check all the items carefully.

Things are changing with this company and it does not appear for the better. I am in the middle of a bad plumbing experience and the person who answers the telephone is being rude and dismissive and unresponsive despite the fact that I have been a customer for 20 years and have spent more than $1000 in the last 2 weeks with Flaherty on repairs and maintenance. ...and incidentally the furnace is not working during this very cold week. Are they now too big to understand customer service?

I must apologize to Flaherty plumbing for the delay in my update.

Since my origonal post Paul has reached out and resolve my issue.
I should stress, they know what they are doing, they showup when they say, and they do the job right.
I am told that my siuation is being used as a training example and some changes in customer service are going into affect because of it.

Technician billed us for 3 hours at the emergency rate for a 15 minute service call. Talked to Paul Flaherty and he resolved it, hopefully he fired the dishonest guy. Be careful.

Our hot water tank failed and flooded our basement. I called another plumber and did not hear back for three hours. In that time, we called Paul Flaherty Plumbing, received two call backs for scheduling, the technician did an initial assessment, and was back within another hour to install the replacement tank. They quoted two pricing options and completed the job professionally and to our satisfaction. We highly recommend this company!

My experience is that Flaherty plumbers show up unprepared. Each appointment follows the same routine. The plumber has to go out and buy a part which takes a good piece of time ($$). When he gets in the apartment, he realizes he needs a tool that's in the truck and takes time to go down from a 6 story building into the parking lot to get the tool and return up the 6 story building ($$). Then he says he's doing me a big favor by doing something that saves me money--not specific about what it is that's saving me money as I'm watching the time add up. Then he takes his blessed time doing a small job like replacing a faucet handle ($$). Then he realizes he needs a specific part to fix the drain stopper in the sink, which he already knew about, but nevertheless left the part in the truck which warrants another trip out to the parking lot ($$). When he finishes the job, he realizes he left his work order out in the truck which he has to get in order to write up the bill ($$). There goes another trip to the lot ($$). I was so grateful when he finally left, I didn't bothered calling back when I discovered he didn't bother fixing the drain stopper. Never again.

We gave Flaherty two chances to fix our furnace. We paid them 1200 dollars total and our furnace was still not working. One of the plumbers said he didn't know what else to do but gave us the name of another company which ended up fixing our furnace by cleaning the dust out of the blower. We have been disputing with flaherty for a refund and I have not received a penny back, only rude and argumentative phone calls. I will never hire them again!

I have had Flaherty's plumbers service my house several times over the last couple years and at least three times in the last three months. The bottom line is that I am very happy with their work. Their plumbers seem very knowledge, proficient and courteous. Their price seems to be in line or very competitive with the prevailing charges in this industry which I have found through experience to be shockingly high. I rate them 4 instead of 5 stars because they are not always able to respond quickly -- sometimes I had to wait a few days or a week for service, but I know this is typical in this area. Nonetheless, if I need a plumber, Flaherty is the company I will call. I do recommend them.

It pains me to write this, because for years Flaherty was responsive to emergencies, helpful and courteous. But after literally thousands of dollars spent trying to correct a heating system which only worked sporadically, Flaherty recommended we replace it. We did. Very expensive. But the new system was insufficient to heat the zone, so we went from bad (old system, when it worked, it heated the place) to worse (new system, totally inadequate on cold days). It took over a year and countless pleas to listen to us to get Flaherty to respond to the problem, and the proposed solution was...more money to replace existing radiators.
Not a good experience.
Sorry to say.
