Beware - plumbers rarely come to your home. They send techs who just name their price. Shady deal - if I call a plumber I want a licensed experience plumber. JS

My ac went out gave them a call at my house the very next morning. After only 3 minutes of looking at my system the service tec said that my entire system had acid in the system. Then he went out to his truck to work up a work order and cost of the repair. Now this is what he said, my entire system had needed to replaced at a cost of you aint goingto believe this he quoted me a price of 11,700 after a few min that went down to 9,945 . About that time my brother walked in and seen the price. He gave me a number of another guy, this new guy came out looked at and repaired my ac for 850.00 including all part labor and recharging my system.

We are extremely disappointed in your plumbing division. We have always been pleased with your services & have always trusted Five Star. But your management in plumbing is incompetent, negligent, & extremely dishonest. They take advantage of seniors. We were supposed to have a meeting with your president Larry Sinn regarding the awful treatment we got & the manner in which the job was done over a period of more than a week & we were left without running water for 9 days! They had no idea what they were doing. Unless, they were purposely trying to drag it out. Your manager put us thru hell. He insulted our intelligence, preyed on our age & our trust. We feel we have been scammed & this is not over by any means! Shame on you Five Star! If Larry Sinn, president, gets this review on his desk-i want him to know that we tried to communicate all this to him. Maybe Doug intervened(?) Doug put us thru hell & ruined our Christmas. Shame on management!

I do not even know where to start with the ridiculous amount of problems that we had with this company. The company was recommended through Duke Energy Progress as a contracted supplier of HVAC services. It started with one of the sales people telling us that his wife worked for Duke Energy Progress and that they received the majority of the contracts for this service. He also told us we could call him at any point, since """"all the work is done under my license,"""" and the first time we called him, he provided our needs to someone else, who called us. We never heard from him again. They quoted us 3 days at one point for the work, and 6 days at one point. The work took over 7 weeks. They started work in mid-March and we did not have a working system until the last day of April, which meant our power bill went through the roof because we were using space heaters the whole time, although the quoted time was only a week or 2 at maximum. We had managers who said that they would be at our house to make sure things went right, and never showed up over and over again. They lied about state laws and their knowledge of them, stating that since their main office was in South Carolina, they did not know North Carolina code. They never even called us to let us know that the inspection was scheduled and we would need to be there to open our home, so we failed inspection. The second inspection failed because work was not completed correctly, and the third finally passed, all with us setting up the appointments, not the actual company completing the work. They constantly blamed problems on their co-workers, their managers, or other people, including the inspector's office. They refused to show the very first day of scheduled work because there was snow the day before, when the roads were completely clear and there was no precipitation that day at all. They called to cancel 45 minutes before they were supposed to be there, coming from South Carolina, which took an hour and 15 minutes. Workers to install the system never showed up and often left one person their doing the work by himself, and he was in our house from 9:30am until 7pm. My husband and I took multiple hours, accumulating to days, off of work because we had to be at the house so frequently to let people in and out. None of this includes the holes cut in our ceiling in the wrong places, a condenser for 3 weeks that never worked, and the amount of time and energy calling just trying to reach someone who would help us. At the end of all of this, we tried to talk to the owner, who would not answer our phone calls, and the front desk person said he did not have a voicemail. Apparently the owner left it up to the install manager, who we consistently had problems with, to call and inform us of their decision to compensate us for all of these problems. Their solution was to give us 3 years of maintenance free, which we declined. Why would we want this company in our house EVER AGAIN? Stay away from this company, they consistently lie, and the owner was """"reluctant to do anything"""" about a situation that included his workers and work being terrible.

Gave us an exhorbantly high price of $1700.00 to clean an exit pipe and put in a cleanout valve. Roto Rooter came within the same hour, did it for $400.00 and the cleanout valve was already there. So Five Starr actually LIED and was going to put a cleanup valve in when it was already there!!

My experience with Five Star was beyond poor. They misdiagnosed my problem (intentionally or flippantly does not matter), lied about the repairs, then engaged in pressure tactics to get me to work with them. I had another technician come out and do the job for $370 when Five Star quoted $10,200. This is not the kind of company you can trust.

Josh arrived on time to provide assistance with our electrical issues. He was friendly and efficient, gave good advice on how best to correct the problems and did the work quickly and professionally. I would recommend this business and their employee very highly. LCA

I would rate these guys a big ZERO - but I gave them a star because the guy was clean-cut and knew what he was doing. I had a service call in the evening when my AC stopped working. As I suspected, the capacitor was bad. I was OK with the $149 emergency call charge, but when he presented me with a bill of $349 for replacing a $30 capacitor I was more than a little pissed. My advice is to find a reputable local HVAC dealer that won't take you to the cleaners.

Scheduling and service was awful -- wasted 3+ hours waiting for an electrician to show on my first appointment. I finally called and they told me he was still on another job (why didnt they call or text me this info). So I scheduled another visit with the electrician asking for an 8am appointment - they told me their window was 8 - 11. I told them I needed 8 and the dispatcher/scheduler told me that if I selected this specific date that would be good. I finally called them at 8:35 (on that date) to find out where he was -- they had no clue! Said he should be here between then and 11:00 --- with two hours or so of work I would miss a whole day. Manager was no help.....don't use these folks. I Just called a competitor who gave me a solid time.

If it were possible to select a no star, that would be my rating. I took the morning off from work to be home and available, up at 6am. Shortly after 10am, I called office just to get an ETA on arrival of technician for first appointment as a new customer. I was informed """"the appointment was put on hold and someone tried to call Fri 3:45p"""" (while I was at work and appt scheduled Monday), left a VM (don't see that on my phone either), and it was noted customer did not respond. I've not lived in the area but a few years and decided to get a local annual service agreement following just a call for service the past few summers to other companies. Seeing the commercials is why I contacted Five Star, but I did find it peculiar being asked to pay for July appointment during initial contact to company in middle of June. I'm not accustomed to being asked to pay for such service that has not been delivered. So now I have wasted taking time off from work waiting for an appointment today (again, asked for payment weeks prior) to be informed today """"the service was put on hold."""" Thank God for a discerning spirit that kept nudging to pay once service was complete.
