We've used Bo for a few projects and he is always professional and reliable. I am sometime reluctant to recommend businesses but I jump at the chance to recommend him to everyone I can. I really trust him. He's not the cheapest but he's the best for sure. He answers questions willingly and I feel confident when he is doing a good job. I won't use anyone else. I only wish I had found him sooner. He is our go to for all plumbing and electrical needs.

I've thought carefully about giving this business a one-star review... I actually liked Bo Ferguson when I met him. He arrived pretty much on-time, seems quite knowledgeable, and was willing to listen to my questions. I've done some contracting myself, though many years ago, and I thought he was a decent guy, highly skilled, and was predisposed to hire him.

I asked him to estimate the cost for upgrading to a 200-amp breaker panel on a 100-year-old house in preparation for new central HVAC units. I was clear about also, eventually, replacing most of the old wiring and bringing everything up to code. That was all fine. But his estimate was so high that I had to wonder if he really didn't want to do the work at all. Still, I'm not a cheapskate, and this is important work that needs to be done right, so I asked for a second quote that would also include a tankless hot-water heater installation thinking the price for both would be more in line with my expectations.

Instead of an updated estimate, I got a $100 invoice. He charged me a hundred bucks just for coming out to the property (in north-central downtown Richmond). I've never been charged for an estimate... not ever... nor would I ever charge anyone for an estimate.

My realtor was incensed when I told her, and left a message asking for an explanation. Never heard a word back from him. The contractor who recommended Bo was shocked as well... not that I was ratting him out, but I needed to call someone else since he was out.

Curious, I visited his web site and saw, big as life, a claim that estimates were free. I made a screenshot of that and included it in the email with a link to his $100. Not going to get into a dispute with anyone over a hundred bucks, but I'm also not going to ever hire someone as disingenuous, greedy, and frankly as rude as Bo. He wasted hours of my time (I drove in from the Shenandoah Valley to meet him that day), wasted my realtor's time, disturbed the house's seller, and delayed our project.

I found his behavior unprofessional, and consider that $100 a cheap price to have dodged a bullet. My advice is to stay away from Ferguson Mechanical. There are other, honorable electricians with his skill level and I'm grateful we found someone else so quickly.
