Clogged drain pipe from house to tank - pretty certain it's roots (cleaned last year by another company who no longer return calls). A few days delay, as everyone is super busy this time of year. No worries. Rex showed up around the expected time. He inspected and cleaned out the roots quickly, efficiently, and with a great upbeat atittude. Now to fix the problem of WHY and HOW! Thanks Rex and Federal Piping!
I have used Federal piping/ plumbing twice in the last 3 months they are Excellent! very professional, great to talk to they get the job done right can't say enough good about them TOP NOTCH GUYS I will definitely use them again Robin Gouette
Federal Piping gave me an estimate for $3000 to drive a new point at my home. I took a day off and did it myself for $280. Today I was having trouble with my pump motor and called your company and waited for a call back. My wife finally called me and said she talked to you and you said you were not coming because I drove my own well point the year before. I would have appreciated a call earlier letting me know instead of waiting till the end of the day on a Friday. Thanks Dave, real professional.
Julie H.Can't say enough about Dave and the team at Federal Piping. Year after year they have been there for our family. Not only is their service excellent but they always take the time to explain the problem and what we can do to avoid in the future. Would give more stars if that was a choice!
I called federal piping to help do some plumbing in my old house and to help get my hot water heater going. 8 years ago they gave me a bid for a new well pump. I got 3 bids and found another outfit from Cornish Maine was the best price! I guess they had this all in their notes and 8 YEARS LATER would not come when I called and really wanted them (since they are local, etc.) That is what I call a lousy business practice! I really had nothing against their company it was just a matter of dollars as we are a family of 5 etc. I always try to hire nice local folks but when the cost comes in at nearly triple what another bid
Was - I had no choice! Little did I know it would be held against me for life!
Sorry to see all the very negative reviews posted here, because that hasn't been my experience. I've used Federal Piping for several years and have always received excellent service. A couple years ago, Steve came out in the middle of a blizzard to get an aging boiler up and running again. Today, Scott came to fix a clogged drain. I was impressed with his cleanliness, his work and his attitude, and I don't impress easy. He could have taken advantage of the fact that I was expecting a bigger, more expensive job, but did not, and the final bill was fair and in line with going rates. The only reason this review is not 5 stars is because the only people I give 5 star reviews to is family!
I really don't like to leave bad reviews on places, especially when it can affect a business negatively. However, from both personal experience with federal piping and word of mouth I feel that people should be aware of my story before considering using them.
We called them to inspect our well because of a pressure issue. An employee came to the house and within 15 minutes of being at our house said we needed a brand new pressure tank which would run us about $1000. Not only did they charge us over $100 for just the short visit, but we had to put a $25 deposit down over the phone before they would even schedule an appointment. If something had come up and we had to cancel they would take our deposit.
Anyway, we wanted a second opinion since it was so expensive. Another company came and realized it was an issue with the pump, not the tank, which only cost us $150.
Now everything runs fine. If we had gone with Fedeal Piping we would have done something unnecessary and expensive and it would not have fixed the problem. These people take advantage of people. Please beware. Anything to make a buck. Just do some research before trusting these people.
Correction to Dave, the owner of Federal Piping:
It was NOT a freeze! It was a toilet paper clog!
Your company did not offer to send another/one of your ""technicians"".
The only offer for resolution was that you would send two at 300.00 an hour each for an hour. Anything past one hour, would be additional costs.
Also, I did not know that the temperature outside is a significant factor to your service delivery!
The other four companies did not even comment on the temperature.
If you are overburdened with service calls, it may be good business sense to say just that to your customer. They would surely be served better by someone who had the time to address their problem.
One of the companies did just that.
Furthermore, they suggested another septic company in the area to contact.
Like you stated, you may be the ""largest company in the region"", but that does not give you the right to be downright rude to your customers.
Matt H.My well failed in the middle of winter (January). I had previously had Federal Piping to my house for routine furnace servicing so I called them first. After some consulting David said they could replace my well with a similar point-style well for around $4,000 and I would have water back in 1 day if things went as planned. My next best option was a new style of well for $10,000, so I went with David's plan.
One of his guys came out the next day to evaluate the job. He confirmed that my well was failed and took a $1,500 cash deposit. The next week, on the day that Federal Piping was to actually replace the well, three guys showed up at 11am. They spent the next 5 hours digging in the wrong part of the yard to locate the old well (necessary to hook into the existing line) even though I told them accurately its approximate location. The next day they came back again around 11am and tried digging again for two hours, this time around the location where I told them the well was in the first place. They were unsuccessful again. They packed up and left again with no plans to come back. They couldn't find the old well.
Luckily, I was able to get another contractor out to my house quickly. Based on the same information from me, he was able to successfully locate the old well in TWO hours. I contacted David today to ask how much of my $1,500 he was willing to contribute back to the $10,000 bill I now face with the contractor that IS putting in my well. He said he was actually going to bill me MORE. He is full of excuses about how bad the weather is and how much time he spent at my property, but the bottom line is that his THREE guys failed for 7 hours to do what two guys from my new contractor successfully did in two!
After asking nicely for my $1,500 back, I got more honest with David when he refused even a partial refund. I told him my feelings on his company's incompetence based on their 7 hour failure vs. the 2 hour success of my new contractor. He again refused any refund at all or to even take responsibility for the failure. I asked him if he was familiar with Yelp and his collection of terrible reviews. He responded, ""you do what you need to do."" I said that not only would I be writing this review, I would also be contacting the Better Business Bureau with the same information. I don't understand how he still has an A+ rating on there, but hopefully that will change soon. There is already a negative review on the BBB site, but no formal complaints listed (yet!).
David ended up telling me he was starting to get ""pissed off"" at me on the phone when I pressed him on how much labor he actually had into the job and how the 7 hours spent at my house was a total failure which he was not acknowledging or taking responsibility for. That was about the time he hung up on me. I could go on with more of my feelings and opinions about David and Federal Piping, but I'm trying to keep this review factual and professional. Decide for yourself if this sounds like a company you want to do business with.
Everything other folks has written here is true. I hired them when my well went out. They said they were a union shop and were sending 2 guys to deal with my well. Instead, my husband and I ended up doing the work with Dave Boyd, the owner. Despite us doing the work, Boyd charged us for 2 union guys... Now union rules say you can't put non-union folks on the job, so why did Boyd have my husband and I helping him pull out the well? And why did he charge us for 2 guys doing the work when there was only him and my husband and I? The guy is basically a crook.
