Keith B.I have to say that I was surprised by the reviews given nearly 10 years of very positive experience with FH Furr (installed my AC in 2008). I had a ""12 year"" water heater installed by Home Depot in 2008. It was not a clean installation. I have done plumbing in my life and it was not what installed how I would have done but I lived with it. The WH began leaking and I started calling around. I got a couple of low-ball estimates (including Home Depot) but the only organization that could commit to coming that day was FH Furr. They came and looked at what was going on and assessed my need for a new water heater. I had already concluded that. We walked through the options and their pricing was much higher than the two others. I knew I would l get quality based on my experience with FH Furr. They installed an AO Smith commercial grade unit. The difference from a residential grade is visibly obvious and the performance is not even close. The price proposed by FH Furr was inclusive of everything to meet Fairfax County code. I got the other estimates with their breakdown and they had conveniently omitted the items that would need to be added such as pans, drain, pressure tank, etc. We all know how that works. ""Oh, I am sorry. I didn't realize you needed X, Y, and Z. That will cost more."" When those were added in the difference was only a few hundred dollars for an equivalent water heater. More important to me was the quality. Yes, the water heater is a beauty but the pièce de résistance was the gent who installed - Johnathan Nation. He was the highly professional tech from FH Furr. When he finished he had done such a clean installation and straightened out the sloppy routing and plumbing from years before. He didn't have to do that. He could have installed and run. He did not. He installed this just like it was his home and it was going to be shown as a model. The personal attention to detail he applied was unlike anything I have seen in at least 20 years of home repairs. He signed his work with excellence and I could not be happier with the product and the installation. The quality of the heater was well beyond expectations and this for a water heater! Even at the lowest setting we have hotter water and in greater quantity that we even dreamed of with our residential grade GE. I get it. People have had bad experiences as posted in reviews. I am not sure what happened in those cases. All I can tell you is that my experience with FH Furr (and specifically with Mr. Nation) was award-worthy and has earned my word-of-mouth endorsement to anyone who will listen. How many people would be proud to walk a total stranger into their utility room and brag about their water heater? I wouldn't have but after Mr. Nation worked his magic, I have done this to two other contractors doing other work in our house.
Contacted company to repair a Hybrid water heater. Informed them why model and serial unit. I had. They assured me that they service hybrid water heaters and will send someone who can diagnose and repair the brand I had. The tech came and right off said we don't 'touch' this brand. I can replace the hybrid with an electric. Asked what is the efficiency comparison as the new tenants were concerned about electric utilities. He said it is not their decision and he did not know about the cost. I told him the unit was under warranty by Bradford white. He said he would not replace or touch any box store ie Home Depot brands. They only deal with AO Smith water heaters. Cost to replace my unit with an electric unit (labor of 3 hrs.) $2750. Needless to say we were very shocked that why did we take half a day off for this appointment if they were not going to diagnose the issue. Call the main office and left a message for the Manager. No one called back. Looked online to see who sells Hybrid water heaters, cost comparison between eclectic and cost to replace. Discovered LOWE's carries AO Smith water heaters... go figure. Isn't Lowe's a box store??????????!!!!!!! Cannot trust this company. All they want to do sell you and charge premium price. Cost of new AO Smith at Lowes 1199.00 and approx. 700 to install.
FH Furr is a rip-off artist that should not be trusted. I had a slow draining bathroom sink. After several delays over 3 days, the technician came. He didn't turn on the water or even look at the sink. He saw the pipe at the joint going in the wall was rust covered and it was a pedestal sink. He immediately said the pipes were too rusty to snake, and the sink would have to be ripped from the wall and all the pipes replaced. Estimate was around $2500. Since he barely looked at anything I was suspicious.
I also asked him to look at my garbage disposal which was jammed. He quoted me $187 to look at the disposal and a whole lot more if it was replaced. I reluctantly agreed to the $187. He took about 30 seconds to grab a wrench and give it a bit of a turn that unjammed the disposal. He still charged me the full $187. I made some crack that it was the easiest 200 bucks he'd ever make and he responded that they weren't always that easy. I get that, but he could always adjust the estimate down to reflect actual effort.
As for the sink, I had a new plumber come in and he fixed it for $280. It turns out the pedestal part of the sink wasn't caulked in and could be removed without detaching the basin from the wall. The pipes that were rusty were plastic and easily replaced. The other pipes were easily snaked and the drain is working much better now.
While I regret agreeing to the disposal, I saved myself about $2300 on the sink. It's an old house and I'm sure there are many future plumbing needs to come. FH Furr lost out on all my future business while my second plumber has earned a repeat customer for life.
They get one star only because there doesn't seem to be an option to give then zero stars
bad form...waited 8 hours for tech to arrive...showed up at 8pm...he needed confirmation of payment before taking a second step into the house...we needed a complete diagnosis of a/c unit...tech would not check for leaks without another $250.00 on top of the $115. for the service call...what the heck?...a complete diagnostic is just that...or should be...we sent him packing.
I had my AC go out in July and when FH Furr came to service it, they found that I needed to have my furnace replaced. I had them come out and provide an estimate after which, I solicited 2 more estimates. In the meantime, FH Furr called me twice leaving a voice mail. After the other 2 estimates, FH Furr was $2000 more than either of the other 2. I emailed back the guy that gave me the original est that he should give me his best price. After not hearing back, I called the person that left me the voice mails and left him one saying same. No response. My last attempt was to call the guy that gave me the est and I left him a voice mail also. No response.
At first, I wanted to give them the business but chose to go with 1 of the other vendors after this experience.
I saw FH Furr booth in Costco, and bought FH Furr service to do annual inspection. My AC unit worked well before the FH Furr techninian came. FH Furr techninian came today and did the inspection, he took a pipe out and clean it. 2 hours after he left, I found there are tons of water leaking from AC unit. I wish I can give them *ZERO* star. I suspected him did sth. to the AC unit to break it on purpose, because he told me the AC unit is old and asked me to install a new one.
Update 08/22: Today FH Furr sent another technician, Thomas, to my home to fix the problem. He is very professional and patient, he rebuilt the pipe and the problem fixed.
I will give Thomas a 5 star. So average is 3 star.
ChungYung L.I had 20 feet of drainage pipe replaced in our basement, I have a unfinished basement so access to the pipe is easy. I signed a contract agreeing to payment of $1300 for the job, but when two technicians came out to do the job, the works were completed less than 90 minutes. Thinking charge of $1300 was way too much for this job, I got in contact with FH Furr's Client Relation Director, Tiffany and got the issue resolved. She was able to help me work with billing to get me some discount.
Great service reps, if you can actually get one to show up!
The scheduling and appt management is horrendous.
I had a brand new sump pump installed by FH Furr. The installation guy was knowledgeable, helpful, and was a great experience. A few weeks later, with the massive rains, an issue arose with backup pump positioning.
Scheduling a follow up to fix the issue:
Attempt 1 - Service guy shows up, tells my wife that nothing is wrong and promptly leaves. When i get home, the sump back up is still not working properly.
Attempt 2 - Monday, scheduling window between 4-7. Calls at 5 that he will not make it today.
Attempt 3 - Wednesday, scheduling window between 11-1, Calls at 12 that he will not make it by 1.
Attempt 4 - After complaining, we are assured that we will be the first stop on Friday, between 8:30-9... nobody shows...get a call at 11:30 that the rep is ready to head to our home... unfortunately, we had already left for work.
Attempt 5 - Requested to be the first stop. Service agent showed up and was great. FINALLY fixed the issue.
Andrea C.Called them about a broken AC (that we'd originally purchased from them). It cost $115 to send someone out to the house 4 days later. They rescheduled once without telling me and then didn't even arrive during the second window I gave them. After I decided to go with a different (more affordable and more punctual) company, we were maliciously reported to animal control. Literally call anyone else. Bubba down the street will give you better service and also not call law enforcement to make a false report on you.
I purchased 3 total units total from FH Furr though Costco, coating me close to $28k One of my units that I purchased just 3 years ago started to have problems and it turned out that the ac coils already need replacements. The prior units that came with the house from the builder were Bryants and I felt that my old units were better than the new Lennox systems units that were suppose to be more efficient and better made but I don't think this the case. I question the product that FH Furr is using. This should not be happening after 3 years. I will be definitely contact someone in management to question the products and their reliability. I have had to pay yearly maintenance contracts with them which are very expensive but they still charge me to do a leak test that was $214 which I feel I am being overcharged.
