Robin B.I do not recommend this plumbing, HVAC company. I sighed a one-year maintenance agreement that covers four visits. They are running 3 months behind for HVAC scheduling. So the agreement was a waste of money because I cannot get on the schedule.
Worst, when I was able to schedule a plumbing inspection, the plumber was a no show. This is despite dispatch telling me he was in route. I waited almost 3 hours and called back. Dispatch said he wasn't coming after all due to an emergency. I'm livid.
This company is unprofessional.
About a year ago, I signed up with F.H. Furr for annual inspections of my HVAC, plumbing, and electrical inspections. Last month, my mini-split unit stopped blowing cold. I suspected a refrigerant leak, and called them for a review. The technician, who seemed like a nice guy and was very pleasant, arrived to diagnose the problem. After checking and confirming a low refrigerant situation, he stated he was calling the manufacturer, Carrier, for further information. This made no sense to me. Why call Carrier for a leak? He never tested for a leak, and instead he stated that the tech at Carrier told him to check the compressor because ""sometimes when there's low refrigerant, the compressor fails"". This was a one year old system, by the way.
From the invoice:
""2021 PPP diagnostic- mini split is inoperable. Customer states that the indoor fan is running but not cooling. Upon arrival, noticed system calling for AC with a target of 68 degrees and ambient temperature of 82 degrees. Once outside, observed the outdoor fan running but the compressor is not. Standing refrigerant pressure is 35 Psig indicating that system is significantly low on refrigerant.
Noticed trace of oil at the liquid line flare joint. After speaking with Carrier tech support, ohmed out the compressor to find that it is open electrically. A parts form has been completed for the compressor. Customer renewed his yearly membership for the lower level and opted for a monthly PPP for the upper level system. All documents have been signed by myself on behalf of my customer. Thank you!""
After a few days, I received an outrageous estimate of $3150.68, which was AFTER a $556.00 discount. Keep in mind, the compressor itself was under warranty and not included in the cost! The summary of the estimate reads,
""The mini split compressor is open electrically and must be replaced. This unit is under manufacturer parts only warranty at this time. System also appears to be low on refrigerant.""
There was absolutely no way I was going to pay 3K for something that should have cost about 800 in parts and labor to remove, replace, and recharge. I called another local company who came out, turned on the unit, walked outside with me to the outdoor unit, and noted that the compressor was running. I told him that I was told the unit was tested and read to be open. He laughed and said that it wasn't true, and I was either lied to or the technician didn't know how to use a multi-meter. After charging the system with nitrogen to test for leaks, a very slow leak was found at the inside high side intake flange. It literally just needed to be tightened. Following this 10 minute fix, he purged the system and recharged with refrigerant. The system has been working flawlessly since.
I called F.H. Fuhr with my complaints, and demanded a full refund and release from my contract. I stated that I believed the tech to either have lied to me or was completely incompetent. I received the following email in response:
""I assure you Paul is neither-he is extremely competent and knowledgeable. He was on the phone with Carrier while there and we stand behind his diagnosis. Nevertheless, we respect your feedback and I will gladly refund $139.10 to your Visa, and be sure to cancel your PPP agreements. The charge of $115 stands for the diagnostic.""
I find it highly disingenuous and ridiculous that they will not refund a diagnostic charge that in the very least, resulted in a MISdiagnosis that would have cost me in excess of $3,000.00 if I had NOT called in a second opinion.
I have contacted my credit card company, the BBB in Manassas, VA and plan to publish this review on every site that takes reviews.
BEWARE of this company.
They came for a consultation since my AC wasn't working. They told me I needed a brand new system after examining that the outdoor system was not working. I brought someone else in for a second opinion the next day and they were able to flip a switch and get the system back up and running. FH Furr told me I would have to pay $8000 - $20,000 to get my working system again. Awful business. I want my $115 back
Avoid. We are new home owners and first called them when our showers started randomly turning cold. They diagnosed a broken valve in the shower that controlled the temperature and we paid for that repair, but it didn't resolve the problem. We got a second opinion and learned that it was actually a problem with our gas supply. So we paid for them to fix a problem that never existed. We gave them another chance when our air conditioning stopped working, and they claimed we needed a new compressor and it would cost thousands of dollars. A second opinion found that we needed a new capacitor and for an electrician to check the wiring. Our compressor was totally fine. We will not be calling them again.
Ended up taking the wall out and having another company replace the water heater (the other company did a great job and I will definitely use them again). Still really frustrated with FH Furr, although they did get my contract information updated so that I have still have a two year warranty.
I am a little insulted by their reply to my post because I had already spent WAY TOO MUCH time trying to work things out with them before posting this review.
Bobby B.I must say I was pleased with the service I received from this company; even though my services were minor, the technician Michael was knowledgeable as well as candid on issues concerning my home when it related to plumbing.
I appreciate the time he took to address my questions and the open honest and frank conversations Regarding the upkeep of my home since I'm a first-time homebuyer.
Shawn S.Two weeks after our disaster of an install for a HVAC system we still do not have our foyer fixed due to the damage. I get accidents happen, and FH FuRR did apologize, but not after me demanding to speak to a manager and kept calling. Now, a Tiffany - who I think runs customer service for them, doesn't return calls. They seem like a good business but I would stay away.
We should have listened to the troubling reviews--but we thought going with a larger company would be better. Not so. Had a plumber come to repair a leaking water line in upstairs bathroom. By the time the plumber left, we had a bill for $1000 for a 20-minute repair and a broken water heater that was leaking water in the basement. F.H. Furr's response was ""not our problem."" Although the water heater was not leaking, worked fine before the plumber came, and only started leaking after the plumber went into the basement to mess with the water supply, the plumber told us that his supervisor told him to do nothing and he left. We currently have no hot water or even cold water to the showers and F.H. Furr refuses to do anything other than offer to schedule a routine service call to get an estimate. Can you believe that? After multiple calls last night and this morning by my husband and me, F.H. Furr has not attempted or offered to help fix the problem they created or even offer a possible resolution, other than to try to sell us a new water heater and pay them to install it. Incredible. Stay away folks. They do not put their customers first. They put money first and are happy to take as much from you as they are able.
P.S. They removed my husband's negative review from their page on Facebook so don't trust any glowing reviews there!
Charlie M.Horrible & unnecessarily bothersome experience that could have been remedied up until I pulled the plug. Unprofessional--and borderline incompetent--technicians. First, they wanted to dig up the floor, but after I found the leak myself, & deemed not to be coming from under but from an above-ground source. Then they cracked the install. They fixed their work, but then they wanted to cut two access panels that were deemed unnecessary by the sub-contracting techs on site. THEN the technician became aggressive & hostile to my spouse, so I took over. I spent three weeks trying to schedule service, to which I received no replies. THEN I contacted customer service, and she could not get the technician to schedule the remainder of the service. I had had to go up the chain to have it addressed. They still won't refund my deposit, for some reason they think they're going to salvage my business. Overall, this has been going on for two months, and a complete waste of time. I could have gone with a different plumber if they had said No, we can't, or won't, finish the job, here's your money back. Still waiting on that refund.
Bottom line, avoid this business. They sub-contract out anyway, so it's better to go direct to the businesses who actually perform the work and cut out the middleman F.H. Furr.
They fixed my problem. Technically I would give them a 5, but the way they handle COVID's distancing rule, I give them a 2. We are now quarantined ourselves to make sure there would be no spreading, just in case the tech would have had it and brought to us. He was in our house with mask on (lightly, not fully covered), and chatted with my husband inside our small house for a good 15-20 minutes, besides the time he did the work, and he was doing all paperwork inside our small house too (800 sq ft). My older husband is not very sharp in applying the distancing rule himself. I thought the tech would know better. I contacted the office asking for their rules, they said they don't have rules to dictate t their technicians doing the paperwork outside, limiting talking to the customers indoor, etc. Very disappointed on their take on Covid-19's safety rule.
