DeVere P.VERY disappointed. First time customer. Even purchased warranty based on price and recommendation from a friend. My AC went out on Saturday night. It was over 100 degrees. Called around on Sunday and they said they could come out for an extra fee. Understandable. No complaints there. It was getting late, so the wife and I decided we can wait until Monday and pay the regular price. They took my information down and took my payment for monthly maintenance fees. Said they will be at the house between 8-12. I called at 11:50am to get a status. They said they would be there next (working on another appointment). Afterwards, they called my wife (I wasn't home) and told her they couldn't come until Tuesday.
I called back and the dispatcher said they will get somebody out to my house between 3-6 TODAY. Great! About an hour later, they called my wife back to let her know they can't make it today (again) and will have to reschedule for Tuesday. Then they call me and tell me it looks like the earliest they can get to me is on Wednesday!
How did we go from Sunday to Wednesday? I told him that was ridiculous because they JUST told my wife Tuesday! He checked and now he thinks he can ""squeeze me in"" on Tuesday.
Ridiculous! By the way, I have a pregnant daughter at home, two dogs, and an irritated wife with asthma.
I would have gone with someone else if they hadn't of told me they were going to come out the same day (or in a reasonable timeframe).
They are the Worst! Sign a contract with them Only to have them cancel 4 time for our HVAC annual inspection. It is now almost July and they have yet to make it to my house. Changing to Artic Air!
By way of introduction, I live in Baltimore County but have a property in Bethany Beach, DE. Here is my saga that explains why I strongly recommend you avoid dealing with the F. H. Furr company;
Saturday, June 1, 2024
I call Furr to request a service call to help me complete the installation of my outdoor shower in Bethany. Was told it was too late for a service call that afternoon but that it could be scheduled for a later Saturday. We agree on Saturday, June 15.

Because it is a 3-hour drive from my home in Maryland to Bethany Beach (and because the cost of gasoline and tolls for the one-way trip is about $40), I call Furr before departing Maryland at 11:16 AM to make sure that I am still on the schedule for a service call the next day. I am assured that the appointment is in the books and that I can expect a phone call either later that afternoon or else Saturday morning with an ETA for the technician.

Not yet having heard from Furr with an ETA, I call them again at 1:35 PM. I am informed that I am still to expect the technician and that I would receive either an email or a phone call to inform me of the ETA. The Furr representative double-checks with me to make certain she has my correct email address. She does.
Not yet having heard from Furr with an ETA, I call them again at 3:02 PM. This time I am informed by a gentleman at Furr that I am NOT scheduled for an appointment this day because Furr never schedules service calls of a non-emergency nature on weekends. WHAT? WHAT? Are you kidding me? What about the information I received during my previous three calls? What about this blurb that I have copied and pasted from the Furr website:
To Get Absolutely The Best Service, Service 7 Days Per Week!
This is just simply unacceptable. Unprofessional. Unconscionable.
Perhaps an hour after that phone call ends, I receive a call from Furr, asking how things are going. I give the female representative a piece of my mind, explaining to her exactly what I have described above. She tells me that she will attempt to secure a $75 coupon towards my next service call. But here's the thing: I can only get to Bethany on weekends and, since Furr doesn't make service calls on weekends, what good would a $75 coupon do?

It's Father's Day and so I depart Bethany for Baltimore to spend the day with my daughter. This will require another 3 hours on the road and another $40 or so expenditure on my part. So far I am out 6 hours of my life and about $80 of my money. Upon arriving in Baltimore I note that I have a voicemail message from Furr asking me to return the call. But it's Father's Day. It's Sunday. And I am not inclined to spend any more of the time I may have left dealing with this absurd situation.
For more than half a year I have been paying Furr $13.95 monthly to be considered a member of the so-called Preferred Partners Plan which I was under the impression entitled me to priority service. I have now learned that not only have I not purchased priority service, I am unable to obtain service at all. $13.95 a month. It seems to me that any fair-minded person would agree with me that F. H. Furr has earned neither my respect nor confidence.
Caveat Emptor.
Scott M.Absolutely the worst experience with a repair company in my life! Our AC failed and they were available same day for a repair so I thought I'd give them an opportunity. The technician came in site and told me my entire HVAC system needed replacement at about $25000. He tried vainly to convince me that was the solution including putting me in his phone to speak with an expert who agreed and wanted to set me up on a payment plan. I told him to get out of my house. Unfortunately I had to pay a $95 ""diagnostic fee@ for this scam!
I called in another local company who discovered the capacitor in the AC system went bad. He replaced in a few minutes and had our system back in action!
Avoid FH Furr at all costs!
I was a little surprised to see so many negative reviews so I thought I'd post about my experience with FH Furr for two locations - northern VA and DC. My father had a service contract with FH Furr for years in VA, and when he was no longer able to manage those relationships and maintenance in his house, I took over. I also use them for my own home in DC.
To address the negatives, I agree with a couple of things commenters have written. Every time we have a service or routine inspection call, the technicians always have several suggested added services. Generally they will be clear that these are optional suggestions, but it does often feel like an upsell. Regarding pricing, they are more expensive compared to other companies based on what I can tell and previous experience. I have decided that the convenience and quality are worth the added cost, but I understand that is not how everyone views it. Lastly on the negative side, when we have annual services done, I sometimes feel like I get contradictory feedback compared to the prior year. For example, at my dad's house, during one annual HVAC inspection, the technician indicated that the system probably had a few more years of life in it. However, during the next year's inspection, the different technician said that coils were rusted and some other stuff was going on and he recommended replacing it. If I was a better record-keeper, I might have brought up the photos and other documentation from the previous year and asked for further detail and clarification, but I had other reasons to replace the unit so I didn't bother to push back.
On the positive side, I haven't had the issue others have had with scheduling. They provide wide windows for arrival, but that doesn't bother me. They always send a text with an ETA ahead of time and it is generally reasonably accurate, so even if I am not home, I can get there in time. I also like that they have all services under one roof. When we had to upgrade an extremely outdated and dangerous electrical panel at my dad's house, they were able to do the drywall repair. Similarly, when we had to replace an HVAC system in a very small closet (house built in the 50s), their drywall repair contractor came to open up the wall, and returned after the system was installed to install a new bifold door and repair the drywall. This streamlined the experience a lot and made it much more convenient in comparison the process to install a mini-split a few years ago with a different company where we had to find a contractor to create a square hole in the ceiling for a cassette-type mini-split, plus we had to hire a separate electrician, a separate drywall repair, and a separate roofer to complete all the other work.
The technicians are always very professional and keep installations very clean. Between two houses, we have replaced 3 HVAC systems, two hot water heaters, and an electrical panel, plus maintained and repaired plumbing, a stove gas leak, electrical outlets and switches, and upgraded a second electrical panel. Overall, we have been happy with FH Furr's services and responsiveness.
Horrible experience all the way around! Work was not completed technician always late every time I ask a question he said I thought we went over that. The main thing is we borrowed a large amount of money and found out by a second opinion that we got ripped off. Now I can't get in touch with anyone at all about the job that cost all that money that was not finished under my home. It was just horrible I tell you. I'm still going through this mess and waiting for someone to come out and fix the problem. Less than zero stars and I would never recommend them.
Jose M.The one time I take my neighborhood listserv at face value and fail to check Yelp, sure enough, I have a terrible experience consistent with their terrible Yelp rating. Read. The. Reviews. First.
Called on Monday about an air handler that leaked through our bedroom ceiling. Had to answer questions for 15 minutes before we could even get to whether there was a scheduling time that would work for us. The person on the phone mentioned their emergency criteria - for which we qualified - but then hemmed and hawed about having to contact dispatch, and not knowing whether there was someone available, this that and the other. Fine. Send someone Tuesday.
Their scheduling philosophy is you better either stay home all day (and night) for whenever a technician shows up (and judging from some reviews, IF they show up). I was able to push back and get them to at least commit to the afternoon. I found a relative willing to spend their afternoon at my house to let the tech in.
I got home at 5pm and...no tech. 6pm...no tech. I call them at 630pm and they gave me a vague, ""you're still on the tech's route, but he's on another call."" No updates, no time estimates, nothing. I canceled the call after a wasted day.
But even if the tech had eventually come, I asked FH Furr by email and by text where I could send the tech information about the issue, with photos, and got no response. It appears their email communication is only good for pitching their service plans, in case you routinely want to spend all day at home waiting for their techs to show up. Maybe. They could not even adequately explain their plans.
Gave them a second star by virtue of them having someone to hypothetically pick up the phone on a holiday. But all in all, complete fail of a first impression, and they will not have the opportunity to make a second one.
This company has a lot of excuses. They setup a time to come, then have to change that time. When they come they are trying to sell you other services and are not focus on the work that you called for. JUST DON""T USE THEM. You will NOT be happy!
I had an appointment for May 2, 2024. I waited all day for them. They called late in the day and cancelled. A wasted day waiting for FH Furr. Rescheduled the appointment for May 3, 2024. I waited all day for them. They confirmed the appointment *4* times by texts during the day. They then called an cancelled AGAIN - no reason given. Another day of my life getting little done waiting at home for FH Furr to honor their appointments. They are good at making appointments - but don't count on them actually showing up do do work. Why they seem unable to keep their commitments or manage their resources becomes the customers problem. I recommend people find another company that actually shows up for their appointments and doesn't leave you sitting at home wasting your time.
The worst. They bought our plumbing and HVAC company. They have been hours late for all appointments and the first thing they told us is we need a new hot water heater and a completely new HVAC system. I agreed to the hot water heater. I was told to be available at 8 am for installation and I would be the first call. It is now 11:30 am and they still have not arrived. Do not use this company.
