Recommended Customer Reviews

Had another a/c company come out for my annual maintenance check and the guy could not believe the huge hole left above the unit intake in the closet that should have been sealed up to prevent the warm air and dirt from going into the air system. I contacted whitson before the 1 year coverage ended and they blew me off and lied to me about calling me back, they had no intention. Both of their Techs checked the system and said nothing so I doubt they are well trained. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.

HARD LESSON LEARNED TOO LATE: I should have read the reviews before using E. H. Whitson Company. So many were less than stellar and I am kicking myself for trusting them. I found them to be one of """"those"""" companies that do the EASY rather than the RIGHT thing when dealing with customers, customer service, and corporate responsibility. I trusted them with several home projects including electrical, air conditioning, and plumbing. Disappointment came when we put in a generator. What makes the entire thing even more disappointing and infuriating is that the majority of bad customer service came from the President of the company, himself, John Lipka. The first sign of potential incompetence was over the permits. After 6 weeks of waiting and hearing nothing from the company, I called to see what was taking so long. I expected them to say that it was the permit bureaucracy and that their hands were tied. Instead, I was told that they had NEVER even filed for the permits and therefore would need to start again. Needless to say, my disappointment was great but mistakes happen. I just swallowed it and waited again. And again...nothing. This time when I called to inquire (again, they did NOT reach out to me) I was told that they needed more information in order to file for the permits. When I inquired why they didn't ask for this at the very beginning of the process (over 8 weeks previous) they simply said """"oops, sorry."""" So now, we were back at square one...again! Before we contracted for the generator I did some research and due diligence to see if there were any specials offered by the manufacturer, Generac. Indeed, there were, especially on extended warranties. But those specials had deadlines so I told Whitson of the deadlines. In fact, I spoke directly to the President (John), who assured me that all was taken care of. I reminded him that there was a deadline by which the generator needed to be purchased and by which it needed to be installed. He assured me, personally, that he had taken care of everything and there was nothing to worry about. I even called him to remind him of the deadline a few days before just in case it had slipped through the cracks as had the permit process. Again, he absolutely assured me that all was done and there would be no problem. This turned out to be a completely fabricated falsehood. Now, it was close to the deadline of installation. Suddenly I am told that there would be a delay because they have other customers ahead of us and that """"everyone wants it yesterday."""" That's when I finally realized what kind of company I was dealing with. I reminded them that over 8 weeks ago, we were calmly, patiently, and with no pressure waiting our turn and for them to now put us in the category of wanting it """"yesterday' was completely unacceptable, insulting, and a problem that needed to be fixed. They complied...very begrudgingly. Again, they seemed to prefer the easy thing over honesty, reliability, and customer service. Eventually, the generator was installed. They missed the deadline but, as pure luck would have it, Generac extended the installation deadline due to storms in Florida so we were still eligible for the extended warranty...that is until we learned that John had lied to me...boldfaced and without apology. He NEVER had purchased the generator by the deadline even though he expressly told me he did and even though we had paid for it in advance. How did I find out? I called the company he purchased the generator from and was told that he had purchased it just a day or two before, well after the deadline he assured me he had met. Could it get worse? Absolutely! I have called John at least 5-6 times to ask what he would do about this. He told me to get him info on the extended warranty and he would see what he could do. I sent him the info and waited to hear back. And waited...and waited. I called him again and asked what was going on. He promised to call me back. He never did. I called again. He promised to call me back. He never did. I called again. He promised to call me back. He never did. He has promised to call me back to let me know what he will do at least 6 times in the last two months. I'm still waiting... So, what to do with this information? I pass it on to other potential customers and real estate agents when asked whom I do or don't recommend for home services. I divest myself of any services offered by E. H. Whitson Company. We still have some contracted services with them but those will not be renewed unless John convinces me that our business is important, explains his consistent falsehoods, rectifies his mistakes, and keeps his promises (his previously consistent pattern gives the impression that this will NOT happen). And I post my review on any and all social media sites that accept reviews including on our residential HOA site so my neighbors can be aware of this company's lack of professionalism and inability to take responsibility.

My gas water heater bottom fell out and flooded my garage. I called E H WHITSON and within two hours they came to my house and replaced my water heater with a new one. Excellent service, excellent installation and would highly recommend this company. First class operation. Prices are quite reasonable and I am very happy. Steven Goldsmith

This company came to check out our air conditioner. They did absolutely nothing to solve the problem, but my neighbor claims that they have shorted out a control for his roof top condensing unit and made the compressor run continuously. After that was discovered the mechanic came back and removed the wiring that he used, but in the meantime the compressor did not survive and stopped working. After repeated calls to this company they claim that they had nothing to do with the failure of my neighbors a/c compressor and treated me in such a bad way that it would be an embarrassment to any business that does not work properly or takes responsibility for its actions.

We have used these folks for years and they were usually very good. But something has changed. They could not handle basic air conditioning repairs and they quoted one price for a gas repair and did not advise that the price was going up. When they asked to be paid which we did it was two and half times more expensive. Be very careful with these folks.

Horrible thieves. They steal peoples money under the guise of doing work. They wanted $780 to clean the coils of a unit that we had a maintenance contract with. No other company has ever charged that much. They are dishonest and have NO customer service skills. Do not recommend if you are looking for a reliable and honest company to do your AC work. Look elsewhere. THIEVES are in abundance in south florida. Keep looking if you're looking for an honest and reputable company. This is NOT IT.

Just experienced the worst customer service and price gouging I have ever encountered with any company. Our story: Recently, our capacitor needed replacement on our Air Conditioning unit. Capacitors generally cost $35 to $60, and our particular capacitor is quoted at $35 retail. The E.H. technician came out and replaced the capacitor in about 20 minutes. E.H. Whitson then presented us with a bill for $85 service fee for time + $175 for the capacitor, for a total charge of $260. When my wife called up the company to inquire about the exorbitant price charged for the capacitor (which retails for around $35), a representative at E.H. Whitson screamed at her (evidently he wasn't used to a customer who wasn't in the mood to get ripped off ). The E.H. Whitson rep then instructed the technician, that if my wife refused to pay the total amount, the technician should immediately remove the capacitor they installed, (thereby breaking our A/C) and charge us $85 anyway. He then threatened my wife that if she refused to pay the $85 fee even after he removed the capacitor, he would report her to collections agency immediately. Shaken and confused by such reprehensible behavior, which resembled what in most other circumstances would be labeled a """"stick-up"""", my wife agreed to pay the entire $260 bill. Subsequently, another E.H. Whitson employee came by our house for the same call (they usually send 2 people out on each call, but the work was done so quickly this time the 1st technician left before the 2nd technician even arrived). My wife explained to the 2nd technician what happened and showed him the final bill. He agreed that the total charge for replacing the capacitor seemed too high and that the total price should have been $175 for both the capacitor and the service fee. As is evident, there was no basis for the E.H. Whitson representative to scream and threaten my wife with collections, when she questioned the final bill, which was obviously erroneous (or a blatant attempt to rip off my wife). Furthermore, I do not think it is proper for a rep to instruct a technician to damage our A/C simply because we questioned why the price of the material was 5X suggested retail. In fact, one wonders what E.H. Whitson will do now that a customer is complaining? Finally, it is illegal to threaten collections simply because a customer questions what is a clear case of price gouging. It is also reprehensible to threaten damage to a customer's property, in the event that a customer questions the price of a service, especially when the customer is a long-time client in good-standing. And while I understand that everyone needs to get paid for their time and efforts, that's precisely why E.H. Whitson charges a $95 service fee. It is unethical and illegal to price gouge customers on materials and then threaten collections when customers inquire about a price of a material, especially long-term customers.

I made an appointment with them to change my water heater. Supposed to be at noon. Called them at 1:00 and they said they were running behind but would call before they came out. Unannounced some salesman showed up at 4:15 at my house without calling. No customer service skills here. I asked him to leave as I already called another contractor. Read the reviews on these guys before they stick it to you.

I am very disappointed by the service I received. Change A/C in july 2020. Since day one Icomplain about the A/c not cooling properly. Keep calling for month with no satisfaction. 3 month ago A/C stop working. They changed fan since it was still under warranty but they charge $675.00 to replace it in a 5 minutes work. Again, the same problem after 3 month. The part is not available, I have to wait 14 days o more. The other alternative is to send a technician to come to my house to remove the motor to take it to another retailer to buy a new one. The labor to remove the motor will cost $ 125.00 an Hour and we are looking at 3 hours to remove it, then another 3 hours to 4 hours to put it back plus the price of the motor. I am not recommending their services anymore. They don't know what is customer service and I am surprise they get a 3.3 rating on a scale of 5. One will describe them better. Nightmare!1*

Don't call them if you want to pay a lot of money for a small job. $195 for a leaky faucet. I wish I had looked up these previous reviews ahead of time. I called to complain and they could not have cared less, they obviously are not interested in repeat business. Will never call them again. You'll be better off looking for any other plumber.
