I agree with the other one star reviews. My building uses this company, and they have done every job in my apartment badly - toilet, and two different radiators. On the toilet they put in the wrong ring and the water over flowed the bowl until the correct ring was installed.
One radiator had to be ""re-serviced"" 3 times before it worked better but not perfectly. They installed the wrong shut-off valve in another radiator, and then gave me a hard time when I didn't want to pay for a second service call.
Had them come do a project and they didn't honor the contract. They said they do not install sinks or dishwashers (they let the dishwasher just sit there hooked up and not secure) When contacting them I was told different stories such as they haven't done this for 40 years and they have different levels of plumbers. They also have claimed that they credited my credit card for the full amount which they have not done. Stay away from this company.
I had a clogged sink. They sent someone with a coil snake to remove the clog but they used so much strength with the coil, they punctured the pipes of the bathroom behind it causing a leak to the downstairs apartment. I called to fix 1 job in 1 apartment that caused issues in 3 apartments. Then they charged me to fix the pipe they broke saying that they can't guarantee when they snake a pipe that it might not cause further damage. Huh, isn't a repairman supposed to know how to fix the problem without causing further damage? To unclog 1 sink ended up costing me close to $500. Not again.
USE SOMEONE ELSE!
This is just a generalized services who contracts plumbers
Needed the wax rim reset for my toilet. They gave me a wide quote of 285-425 becuase there may be other complications
They sent a very knowledgable plumber who did a good job, however their pricing is a ripoff
The normal price for this service is 325.
I overheard the plumber describing the job to the central control: ""everything looks good, just needs a new wax rim reset and sealed up, the supply and everything else looks good.""
So despite it being the simplest fix, somehow they charged above the top end of the price range. Even the plumber was dumbfounded, but it was 'out of his control.'
Basically they are just going to overcharge you. Find a good independent plumber
I agree with Steve F, Chelsea R, and Linda B below. These people are thieves! They will worsen your bathroom and charge you an arm and a leg. And those two property managers below with rave review? I suspect that they get rewards for referring tenants to this shady company. Yelp should cite them for conflict of interest
Nina C.Effective, honest, reliable, knowledgeable without the ""listen lady"" attitude--these are the words that immediately come to mind when I think ""Effective Plumbing"". I am a property manager and have dealt with this company for over 10 years. The owner has chosen his workers well. Each and everyone patiently transcribe the reports to me in layman's terms, giving me an education in the process. If they don't arrive as quickly as you'd like, it isn't because they're dilly-dallying about town. Emergencies occur throughout the day. It's exactly why all service companies give a broad window. They're not going to leave the job if they haven't accurately assessed the problem. Be rest assured, you will be afforded the same quality service as the previous job.
Update.... It went from bad to worse. Effective plumbing was scheduled to install my new tub and I asked a neighbor to let them in because I was unable to take ANOTHER day off from work to deal with this nonsense. Nevertheless, I go home during my break to check on the progress and low and behold, the are installing the old, broken tub back into my bathroom. The tub that they took out two weeks prior and left in my dining room. I called the office and apparently no one bothered to measure the bathroom or the bathtub to see if the new tub they ordered would fit. Obviously it didn't fit and he bathroom is now in worse shape then before. The only difference is I was out of a shower at home for two weeks for absolutely no reason.
Effective Plumbing should change their name to Effective Buffoonery.
PS- They actually did leave me with something new... A huge scratch mark on my wood floor in the dining room, where they left the old tub for 2 weeks.
Cat B.After discovering a small but urgent leak this morning I called up Effective Plumbing to see what next steps were.
Since I don't speak plumber, we decided that for me to effectively communicate my problem and for him to be sure he had the correct parts for me, that I would send him some cell phone snaps of my leaky faucet.
Shortly after doing so we were back on the horn and he correctly diagnosed the problem as a (very simple) lose fitting and talked me through tightening it over the phone.
Effective Plumbing may not be able to do the same for every problem but I really appreciated the desire to be thorough and then their willingness to talk me through a simple fix.
Joyce H.I am a property manager, and have dealt with various types of workers, with varied skill levels. I have been using Effective Plumbing for about 30 years. And over that time I have dealt with various dispatchers and technicians. So I have worked with many of their technicians and dispatchers. They have come in every emergency, even on the weekends.
I have encountered only one bad tech, and in that case I called the office and told them not to send him back. The other techs have been very good, knew what they were doing and worked fast.
I have learned in this business you should not expect every worker/technician/contractor to be all sweetness and light. If they are able to .troubleshoot, are through, and work fast, I have no problem.
I would recommend them.
These people are thieves. They were in and out of my building in ten minutes and put a handle on my toilet. Charged me $419.17, it was a disgrace! I will never use them again because they are plain out right thieves. It's the same as if they came in with a mask on and a gun and robbed me! Next time if I need a plumber, I will go to Angieslist to make sure I won't get these people again!
