Nicole D.Literal HVAC lifesavers!
It's 17 degrees outside and my furnace took a crap. It was freezing in here!
I called Hughes at 2 pm, they said they'd get a tech out to me in 30 minutes. Sweet!
He was about 30 minutes behind schedule, but was courteous (even asked for a towel to wipe his boots before strolling through the house!) and had it fixed in an hour for a reasonable fee.
He offered tips for how to prevent the issue in the future, and the shop takes credit card payment by phone, or a check.
The location of this business is weird on the Yelp listing, but the phone number for this listing is correct to reach a dispatcher in the 19125 ZIP code - Fishtown/Kensington.
Bri R.Worst experience ever. Work completed improperly the first time and instead of fixing it the second time they actually caused damage to a wall in the house instead. Owner's son was supposed to come a see the problem and never showed. Waited again another day and was told that someone was on the way but no one showed. The only answer I received is that they will get around to the repairs when they have time but it's not a priority. Basically left with no other option than to proceed with legal action. Be forewarned people.
Madeline T.We had a crack in our main sewage pipe and Ed Hughes was recommended to us by several people. The work was quick and well done. However, the cement used to seal up the job on my pavement, began to crumble and my basement began to get very damp. After several phone calls (that were not returned) my husband and I finally got through to someone. They came out and fixed the issue and We haven't had an problems since. Long story short, original cement job wasn't great and I had to call them more times than I wanted to. The woman on the phone was very nice and the important work was great. Would recommend.
Andrew A.I had this company hook up a gas dryer in my new house because the gas line to the dryer was a little over two feet too short. The job ended up taking about 40 minutes and I was charged $400 (at the owners direction, I was told) when every other company I'd talked to had quoted me around $100-150. To top it off, since it was a Saturday there was no one in the office to answer why I was being charged so much. I've been calling basically every day for over a week to get some answers and I've consistently been told by numerous people ""The boss knows you're trying to reach him, he'll get back to you tomorrow."" Well, it's been over five weeks with me calling and nobody has gotten back to me with any information about why this job was so much more expensive than anyone else told me it would be.
EDIT: I'd also been told over the course of the five weeks of calling that I would be (and a few times had been) refunded various amounts. No refund ever came through. I finally had someone call me back from the company to talk to me about the cost of the job and now they're saying I won't be refunded anything.
I say either go with another plumber or, if you'd like the same experience in a much shorter time frame, drink a bunch of poison.
run away from this company. they overcharge & when you need service
on what they just installed , they don't show up. when they do finally come, they try to charge you a service chg on their shabby installation.
I called Edward Hughes and Sons on April 3rd to fix my heater that was not working. I had used this company over the years and thought I could trust them. A old man came that day and told my husband that the problem was the Computer Board. He supposingly repaired it and he told my husband that he took some unnessary commands off of my thermostat. He charged me $125 for a service charge because it was on a Sunday and $100 for the repair which totallled $225. On April 13, the heater stopped working again. In previous years the problem with my heater was a bad switch which was replaced and the heater would work. The last time it was fixed was two years ago so I was thinking it was the same thing this time but was told it was the Computer Board. I called the company to have them come back out to check my heater again since I paid for them to fix it and it is not working again and was told someone would call me to let me know what time they would be out that day. I called them several times after not getting a call and it was after 5 PM and was told I was on the schedule and somebody would be here. At 7:30 I got a call telling me they were backed up and couldn't come that day but would be here the next day. The next day it was the same thing, they promised me I would get a call and someone would be out here to fix it and they didn't fall or come. Today I called at 9:30 AM and was told someone would call me and its 10:42 and nobody has called. They are not going to call today I am sure because it they couldn't get to me for the last two days, they would have been her first thing this morning. I don't recommend this company to anybody. I don't know what has happened to them but after getting the run around, I started looking them up and found out that they do this kind of thing a lot, telling people they will call but don't. I have a child in my house and my house is cold.
Michael J.I have a so called working relationship with these guys from faucets, shut- off valves, traps , you name it, they do it all. Even roofing. They are the one stop shop!
Casi Chilango X.They were nice enough to come out - thank you. However, they asked for $550 to replace kitchen faucet. They wouldn't tell me the breakdown of the parts/labor, rather just one ""package"". I found out the faucet cost $99 at Home Depot. 1 hour of labor to install a faucet does not equal $450 in labor. C'mon. I didn't have the work completed by this company, so i'm only rating my experience. I called someone else and they just fixed the thing for less than $100.
They were awesome. Called on a Sunday about a leak, thinking I'd just leave a message, and I actually got a person. They came out first thing Monday and by Tuesday afternoon the problem was fixed. It wasn't cheap (the only reason they don't get five stars!), but everyone was knowledgeable, professional, courteous. Can't say enough good things about how responsive everyone was.
I had to call these guys out twice this month. They have been great and very professional. They have same day/next day service and come within the time frame given.
