I am giving this store a below zero rating based on the terrible experience I had yesterday!!! I was helping a friend of mine with a stove that needed to be hooked up and had to run the gas line for it to the wall. I needed a fitting to go between the flexible gas line from the stove to the gas line from the wall. I went to Ed Young's and was trying to look for that particular fitting that I thought would have been a compression type of fitting as I have done other times before. A gentleman who looked to be in his 60s with a mustache, approached me and had asked if I needed any help. I said ""sure"". I explained to him exactly what I needed and even pointed out the exact type and size of flexible gas line that was hooked to the stove. I told him that it needed a compression type of fitting but was looking to see if they had the right size. He told me a compression type fitting was not the right fitting and said that the fitting from the flexible gas line from the stove is to be threaded onto the black pipe (which is a NPT type of thread and does not have a compression type of end). I told him that the flexible gas line fitting had a tapered end and needed a compression type of fitting and he disagreed. He then showed me a fitting on a flexible gas line that had that same tapered end and told me that a black pipe end is supposed to fit in the tapered end. I still had doubts about what he was saying but I thought that maybe I was wrong and since Ed Young's was a popular ""mom & pop"" type of store with ""seasoned"" professionals. I decided to take the man's word for it. I returned to my friend's house and tried to screw the flexible gas line fitting onto a black pipe end and.....wouldn't you know? It did NOT work!!! I was right all along. I was pretty angry that I was steered wrong by a ""family owned"" business like that! I went back to the store with the flexible gas line in my hand this time and an older guy asked me if i needed help. Again I explained my situation and had a compression type fitting that I had grabbed off the shelf. I told the man that all I wanted to do was to see if this fitting was the right one. He was giving me the ""runaround"" about different things related to fittings and I was just tying to keep it simple and wanted to take the compression fitting out of the bag just to try it. He wouldn't let me do it. I told him that the other man who helped me was wrong about his advice. He asked me what the other man's name was and I told him I didn't know. He could clearly see my frustration and then found the man who helped me before. The same man who ""helped"" me before asked me what the problem was so I told him that he was wrong about the advice he gave me earlier and told him exactly what he told me about connecting the flexible gas line fitting to a black pipe and he said: ""Oh, you must have misunderstood me"". I just about ""blew my top!"". I couldn't believe my ears!! is this guy really lying to me?? Could this be happening in a supposed ""reputable"" store?? I said to him: ""No I did NOT misunderstand you"". He then said: ""You must have"". I got even angrier and looked in his face and said ""bull---t!!"". He then gave me a ""look"" and said: ""O.K., it's time for you to leave"". I said to him: ""Yes it is!"". I started to walk away in total disgust, shaking my head and as I got half way out the store, he said to me: ""Don't ever come back"". I turned (feeling relieved to go elsewhere) and said back to him (smiling): ""I won't!"". Is this the type of treatment I should be getting? This man clearly does not know what he is doing, let alone plumbing details. I will never ever go back to this store again!! I was treated unfairly with disrespect. Some of the staff there needs to be retrained in both customer etiquette and skilled trade education. I will always go to Home Depot for all of my needs even if I have to drive 10 miles extra!

Signed,

Angry & Disgusted

Rant and the other guys in Plumbing were AMAZING. I was in a bind and they knew exactly how to help me. Rant spent extra effort to make sure I was leaving there with everything I needed. Never have I done a plumbing project with only ONE trip to the store.

Haven't felt this ripped off in a while. We had a slight drip in our shower and called Ed Youngs. Despite knowing in advance exactly what the issue was, the technician stated after he arrived that he only carried a few replacement shower valve cartridges in his truck at a time and would have to get a different one. After the 10 minute job was completed we were charged $470 (the part cost was approximately $75).

A Williamsville staple! They have so much under 1 roof. I've known members of the Young family for many years and they are very good people. There is always a very nice selection of seasonal and gift items, and the folks that work there are very friendly.

Recently our hot water tank had sprung a leak. I called Ed Youngs and was amazed at how friendly and professional they were. Their technician John came right out and installed a new hot water tank. John did a great job and was very polite and cleaned up the area before he left.
I highly recommend Ed Youngs for all your hardware needs.

Ed Young's is the hardware store I go to when I want a quick, hassle-free shopping experience. The store has an excellent selection of merchandise (I always find what I'm looking for), attentive and helpful staff, and a convenient location. Ed Young's prices might be slightly higher than their big box competitors', but the time I save per visit compensates for any price differential.

The reason for the four-star review is because of a negative experience with their plumbing service--the guy they sent didn't know what he was doing and the repair job ended up creating more problems than it solved.

They're pricey, but it's worth it! I love the chains like lowes and Home Depot, but when you are a new homeowner looking for advice, how to do something as a clueless first timer, it's wonderful to find someone willing to help, you can't get that anywhere else around here!

I started going to Ed Young's because they are close to my house, I will always go back to Ed Young's because they are simply the best. Whether you are just picking up a part or you need in depth advice on how to do-it yourself...they will make sure you are taken care of.

My kids flushed something down the toilet....broke it. Then the other toilet broke too. I went to Ed Youngs and they saw me looking somewhat confused in the plumbing aisle. They helped right away, went through my options and even spent the time to teach me how to properly snake a toilet. This kind of service you just don't get in the big box stores. I learn something new every time I go to Ed Youngs. Their onsite plumbing services are incredible as well. I strayed once to another company and that was a complete nightmare. Ed Youngs should be your first and usually last place to got when you have hardware and/or plumbing needs.
