On March 30, 2024, I engaged this plumbing company in Wheaton, conveniently located about ten minutes away, to install a kitchen faucet in my condo unit. I was drawn to their services through their advertising in my Catholic church bulletin, which boasted of 'Best Work, Best Rates, and Parishioner Discount', and provided a phone number for contact. I got a top-of-the-line faucet via Home Depot, which I got as part of the Aetna Medicare Advantage rewards program. I'm also a senior citizen in my seventies and on a fixed income. I was quoted six hundred for a job just over an hour. But since there is a $125 free visit, I decided to pay for it. The parishioner's discount was only five percent. I asked the technician, AFTER he finished, if he could explain the billing process. I plan to email the owner later and get the rate cut in half. After completing the job, the technician said they had to DOUBLE the rate, as I didn't buy the faucet from them. The total bill, with the discount, was $555. The technician said the owner, Ed, had set the price. I did reach out via email to edit about my concerns, but I am still waiting to hear back. Bing Co-pilot, Google Gemini, and Gab AI engines put the cost of labor from $100- $250 for a plumber in DuPage County, Ill., to do this job. Is this price I paid fair? Let's ask three different AI engines this question. What is the average consumer cost for a DuPage County, Illinois, plumber to install a kitchen faucet purchased for a condo unit? Bing Co-Pilot AI It quoted labor costs at $120 to $250. Google Gemini AI It quoted labor costs of around $238. Gab AI It quoted $100 to $250. Is it ""normal"" to double the labor price if someone buys their facet? A fixed-income senior like me has made this facet accessible via a Medicare Advantage program. Next time, I will look into Agni to recommend area professionals. I was NOT informed before the work that they would double the charge because I supplied my faucet.
Poor parts, poor workmanship and high cost. One-star review is fitting.
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY, for anything!!! Charges $125 to walk in your door, whether you hire him or not. Was told on phone when I made the appointment, if I hired them the $125. would be waived. I assumed that meant deducted from bill. NO... it did not!!! I found Ed the Plumber information in our church bulletin and expected them to be trustworthy, honest and reasonable. Quote was $498.00 to replace my kitchen faucet (which I purchased separately). Since I choose NOT to hire them I had to pay the $125. !!
Next day I hired someone else and paid $175.00 TOTAL for this simple job.
This guy is a thief and using the church bulletin to rake in the $$$. I had to ask about the parishioner discount and then ask for senior discount, which only reduce the quote to $438.00. Ridiculous, definitely out for the bucks and not to earn a good reputation.
I am so upset with Ed the Plumber. They charged a ridiculous amount of money to show up for a simple job. When I tried to discuss this with them, I got the same ""sorry, there is nothing I can do"" speech, and if I refused the service, they were going to charge a $125 fee for showing up. The woman who answers the phone hung up on me when were discussing her unscrupulous pricing tactics. We had used Ed the Plumber in the past, but I will NEVER use them again, and I encourage anyone else NOT to use them as well.
Honesty S.Please beware they will charge you a arm and two legs!!! My husband found Ed the Plumber information in our church bulletin and expected them to be trustworthy, honest and resonable or simply industry service rate ( which does not mean cheap), but no they are absolutely the worst wanted to replace a toliet, they quoted me over 1,750.00!! I asked what type of toliet costs that much... he said a Gerber so I wanted to research it I asked for a model number and was told I DON'T KNOW, the most expensive one I found was 389.99 so are they charging 1300.00 to install, hypothetically even if the toliet costed 750.00 are they charging 1000.00 to install?? Then he said if you purchase the toliet we will install for approximately 700.00!!! I also was going to get my tub caulked since they would already be here they quoted 385.00 for just around the tub!!! This company is the absolute worst type of ripoffs ever, they prey on parishioners seeing their advertisement in the church bulletin and believe they are contacting a honest business, but the truth is Ed the Plumber is just using a cheap form of advertisement with a very large potential customer base with a lot of word of mouth. I really wish I could give them a -0 for a rating!!!
My toilet was leaking. I saw their add in church bulletin. $125 service call. Said I need new toilet. Quoted $1,700 for a Gerber toilet installed. If I supplied toilet, $675 just to install. I went to plumbing supply business and got a Kohler toilet with all necessary parts, had a local plumber install. Total cost $285. Ed the plumber should be called Ed the rip-off.
Ed the Plumber Ed the Carpenter. Saw their ad in our church bulletin, again the estimate cost $125.00 which I thought was a reasonable charge for a reputable firm. I needed a garage wall to have the studs sister as well as a new bottom plate installed. About 20 feet. He quoted me $4,500. A ridiculous fee.I enlisted my son and another young man, we got the job done in 4 hours. I would NEVER recommend this outfit, I think the source of their income is the $125.00 estimate that they charge. Don't call this outfit. Terrible.
Mike M.Found Ed the Plumber in our church's bulletin. A service call to our building was $125. We had three issues in our unit that needed to be addressed, each issue that we were quoted at $500 per each, or $1,500. This quote was going to cost me more than double the amount I donate to my church every year. I ended up paying the $125, and then had another plumber come in and complete the job for only $200 all together.
If you want to pay high prices, then go to Ed the Plumber. Otherwise I'd just move on.
