Fawn C.We noticed that we had moisture/wetness around the piping that was exiting our basement. We were certain it was our plumbing. We got Eco Plumbers name from a friend of a friend. We reached and they were able to come first thing the next morning. This is where I want to make others aware. This is how they get you. They come as quickly as possible. We are a society of instant, instant everything. When we have plumbing issues it is emergent in our mind and we want it fixed instantly. So they basically have you when they walk through the door.
The decision was that the plumber would snake out our drain for a very small fee of $93.00. Please pay attention, here is the other way that Eco Plumbers will get you. The initial fee seems so reasonable even small. They have started to gain your trust.
After the clearing out of the sewage line, they send back another employee to do a visual inspection of our sewage line with a camera. I don't know how to read the video of our sewage lines, so I'm at the mercy of the camera operator.
He proceeds to tell us how awful our sewage line is and how we need it repaired as soon as possible. As he formulates the quote he tells us that he is not a salesman and that he does not want anyone to have to spend their hard earned money. He says that Eco Plumbers gives their customers options. He encourages us to only fix what is needed now.
Then he flips his iPad over to me and shows me what Level 1 will be to repair our entire line.......$27,000+ and I almost vomit. He does have other options. Level 2 was a mere $10,000+ to fix 20 feet of our sewage line. The worst of it as he puts it.
Again, I hope you are paying attention. He tells us they offer financing. That he can get almost anyone approved. He got a guy approved with a 535 credit score for more than what we are looking at. All the while encouraging us to do Level 2 but that Level 1 is needed and that if in a couple of years we want to do the entire line, it will only cost $17,000+ because we would have already paid $10,000 of $27,000 total.
As we try to muddle through our shock. The Eco Plumbers salesman begins to scare us. This is the third and final tactic that Eco Plumbers uses. The salesman says that we can not flush our toilet paper. He keeps repeating over and over that we must not under any circumstances flush any toilet paper until we get at least the line by the house repaired. We let the salesman know that we have to discuss this before making any decision this costly.
The next day my husband makes it his mission to get at least one other quote from another plumber. As he begins to call around, the other companies offer to take a look at the video that was done the day before by Eco Plumbers. So we work on getting that video. It did take some back and forth, but we were persistent and we finally got the video emailed to us. We sent it on to two other area plumbing companies. Both companies responded the next day saying that they did not see anything alarming in that video. But each company requested additional photos just to be thorough. One of the two companies even offered to come out and take a look in person at our sewage / plumbing.
That plumbing company's owner was actually the person that came out today to our house. He balked at the quote of $27,000+ and shook his head. He even put his own camera in our sewage line to ensure that he was not missing something. He went over everything and said we are not in need of any sewage repairs. He did not charge us one cent.
So we went from needing $27,000+ in sewage repairs from Eco Plumbers to needing $0 in repairs from two other area plumbers.
Please be patient and always get a second or even third estimate. There are shady companies out there and we almost got taken by one. Thankfully we believe in getting multiple quotes for home improvement work.
Jonah W.These guys are fairly quick and friendly, but you definitely need to watch them, or they might try to fleece you.
The background: This occurred about a year or two ago. I had a toilet at a rental that needed a new wax ring. For the unfamiliar, this is about as easy a job as it gets for toilets -- it involves draining the toilet, pulling it up, replacing a $6 part, and then ""reseating"" the toilet. It's about a 15-20 minute job. If you watch a Youtube video, you can do it yourself pretty easily. I would have and should have done this myself, but was out of town at the time the issue arose.
Here's what happened: I called Ecoplumbers because their signs were everywhere. The booking person was super polite and helpful. They scheduled to get out to the site in a couple of days (i.e., not an emergency rate), and said that they'd put a $250 hold on my card to ensure payment. But I instructed them (and they agreed), to call and give me a quote after they got there and before they did the work. (I wanted to prevent exactly what they then proceeded to do.)
The day of the scheduled visit came, and I never heard anything from Ecoplumbers, but then that evening, I got a $250 invoice. I called the tenant and asked what happened. She said that they arrived and were in the bathroom for about 15 minutes, then told her the problem was solved and left.
So, Ecoplumbers did indeed do the work as scheduled, but they tried to charge me $250 for a 15-minute, non-emergency repair job. That's about $1,000 an hour. Last I checked, most surgeons don't charge this much.
The next day I called and complained that (a) they didn't follow directions to provide a quote before doing the work, and (b) their rate was insane. Again they were very polite. They explained to me that they ""don't bill by the amount of work involved."" I laughed out loud. So I'm not sure how they bill then; I imagine it's whatever they think they can get away with. They asked what I thought was reasonable, and I offered $100, to which they agreed. So that was still about $400 an hour; I'm pretty sure they didn't lose any money on the transaction. But I really don't think customers should have to audit their bills after the fact.
So, in summary, these guys are quick, polite, and professional. But if
I were to use them again (I won't), I'd demand an up-front quote and maybe get a couple comparisons, even on smaller jobs. If you don't, you may end up paying 2-3x what you should.
Jennifer R.The good. Convenient online scheduling, advance notification of who is coming and a picture to identify them, on time appt arrival, the plumber they sent out was awesome. Very knowledgable and friendly.
The not as good. They also ""inspect"" your hot water heater and water main shutoff as part of the visit standard. Even if you are not having issues with those things. It seems like this is opportunistic for finding things to quote for repairs. In my case, it did generate an on the spot quote and I did feel slightly pressured to make a decision. IMO, not the best business practice from a customer perspective.
I would use them again.
Leigh H.Had a sump pump go out and basement had water in it. They are open at 6:30 am and was able to take my request for an appointment. They were here by 8:15. The tech Chris walked through it all an options. Fast, fair and friendly. Highly recommend!!
Hot water heater went out, got a quote at noon and had a water heater installed by 6PM. Same day service which was amazing.
Tried to book service for a small leak. Got an immediate call back. I was told that regular visit is one week out, but that I could book a more expensive visit before that. The customer service just hung up the phone once I said that I am not willing to pay extra for someone to come within a week for a regular small repair. Unbelievable, but at least did not waste more of my time and money (based on previous reviews) on such unprofessional company. This company is not in business to create repeat business, they just want to rob you of your money and fast.
My toilets, shower and tub were backing up when in use and it would take forever for the water to go down. EcoPlumbers sent out their Tech, who immediately found where the problem was. He explained what he was going to do. Within an hour and a half, my toilets were flushing properly; no back up water in the shower or tub. He had me flush both several times to ensure I was satisfied with the work. I was given a senior discount and am very satisfied with the work done. Should I be asked about a plumber, I will always suggest EcoPlumbers for the excellent work and very professional towards their customers.
I have used them for 7 yrs, they replaced a water heater and two toilets as well as repaired some leaks in that time. The technicians and service were great. I didn't get other quotes as felt like it was fair. However just recently I needed to replace the kitchen faucet - which we provided. Since it was a newer faucet the hoses to connect to water source needed to be upgraded as well. I called them and did not check pricing or ask for a quote at the time of call as scheduled online. They gave me an estimate on the spot to install of $ 644. It was not an emergency repAir. We had scheduled it for the next available appointment. I would have told them never mind I will look elsewhere had the existing faucet been operable. I had already gone 3 days without one and was trying to get a jump on Thanksgiving baking. Just a heads up to get the estimate BEFORE they get there. To get a comparison- i called another highly rated plumber and was quoted $175. Lesson learned. I am sad because I liked them. When I complained about the price they justified with: "" Over the last two years, there has been pretty substantial price increases for just about everything in the world and we as a business have had to align our pricing in order to stay in business and provide our customers quality work."" And then ""We do not price by the hour, but by the job at hand."" Again lesson learned.
I would not recommend this company due to their exorbitant pricing. My kitchen sink was clogged and there was a leak under the sink. The charge was $622 for them to snake the drain and replace a 6 inch section of pipe. It took them 45 minutes. They did offer a cheaper option of $400 but this did not include fixing the leak. Amanda from their company told me that I should not have had the work done if I didn't like the price. I agree that this is buyer's remorse. I know nothing about plumber pricing, and I did not find out until later that Jack Woods and The Waterworks would have done this job for hundreds less.
Christina L.Called on a Friday afternoon to receive a main drain special . When technician arrived he didn't even offer the service I initially requested . Tech suggested I snake the drain myself and call back if it didn't work. He had several options but they were pricey He was nice enough to offer a 60 dollar half gallon of something to used after I snaked it myself. He told me I could call back if it didn't work. Well it didn't and when I called back was informed no one could talk to me until Monday. 1/10 wouldn't recommend
