This letter is to express the problems with E&M Mechanical. 20 under hill AVE. Poughkeepsie, NY.12601 on the repair work done at my property located at 77 carroll street Poughkeepsie NY.
1. Contractor used very cheap materials for many of the repairs.
2. Contractor's work quality is low in many cases.
3, Contractor charged us $62,000, but all job only worth $25,000, very very expensive! Contractor cares more about money than doing the job right!
4. Contractor threatened us 3 times to pay and threatened to put a lien on my property.
5. Even the tenants have made many comments to me about this.
6, This is our experience. Landlords, please avoid the problems we've had and don't choose this company!

You are welcome to come and take a look at the job they did on my house.

Took the afternoon off to be here when my gas grill hook-up was supposed to be installed. Fifteen minutes before the window they gave me expired I called and asked what was up. They said they were""just about to call me"" to let me know their technician was backed up on two jobs meaning they've known for hours they might not get to my home. A simple call would be the very least they could do. They said they couldn't get here today. I pressed them a bit and got a call back that their tech was ""just finishing a job"" 10 miles from here and he'd be right over.

Not to say this kind of service and communication doesn't happen, on rare occasions and to be fair their dispatch person was very nice and very apologetic. Feeling like unless I pushed, I'd be taking another day off. Will write back if and when the work is complete. Hoping I can add another start or two.

My central air decided to crap out right before the heat wave. Called six different places which were all booked out for months and was finally referred here. Not having much hope at this point, told the receptionist what I was dealing with and she told me they would get someone out same day or next. Mark called me that afternoon, diagnosed my problem and ordered the part I needed. Came out the following week installed it and got my blower working again. Thought everything was all good until I realized the ac still wasn't cooling. Called again, not expecting much as I know these guys must be straight out. Tyler came out less than two hours later and fixed me right up. Can't say enough about how happy I am with the service from this company.

These guys remodeled my kitchen. Work was done by an unlicensed and unsupervised plumber which is illegal. They tried to shake me down for $1600 by claiming my furnace exhaust was defective and threatened to ""red tag"" my furnace during the coldest week of the year unless they were hired to replace the flue. I contacted the flue manufacturer who verified the exhaust was properly installed and maintained. Beware.

Hired for bathroom renovation. Said it would take 2 weeks but took over 2 months and was a total hack. Didn't show up on time some days and didn't come at all on others. My brand new tub was not only installed incorrectly it was also damaged
and filled with dirt and dry wall. Caulking sloppy. Tub spout loose. The taping and painting sub par. Have to hire someone competent to fix the mess.

Sorry to go on forever, but this company is UNBELIEVABLE . Charge more time then they spend. Blame you and past plumbers when they break things. Can't recognize basic plumbing parts when looking right at them. (like circulators on boilers) Maintain boilers that have never had a problem and you end up with no hot water and when they come back to fix what they did charge you for it and tell you it must have been because you reset the boilers or they were hit by lightening or a power surge or that the past plumber didn't install circulators. The plumber, Vance's, first fix of the issue resulted in the water temp going to 130 degrees and he said that is because there was no circulator. So....for 3-1/2 years there were no problems, but now there were no circulators and the temp was 130 degrees? As I had read the manual the night before, I showed him that there were circulators. Hello no lightening and why would I or tenants reset a boiler. My tenants don't know what reset a boiler means. They ask me to come and change light bulbs. They don't reset boilers.

Charged me two hours for first visit when there 30 mins. Charged me 3.5 hours for 2nd visit when there for two. Charged me an hour to come back to fix what he broker. Asked me for a plunger, a bucket and a towel (long story water everywhere).

$750 to clean two boilers that had no issues, no issues, no parts. They add a flat fee of $150 for inspection even though they charge hourly too. I asked for maintenance, isn't an inspection just a part of that? But I didn't request an inspection. I told someone about this who had used E&M and he said they charged him for travel time from their last job and travel time to their next job no matter where that other job is, also meaning a double charge for the customers and we take the hit for how they schedule jobs geographically. Why charge me for going if the other customer gets charged for the trip also.

I went to return a showerhead and told the short version of this story to a plumber and when I started and said Vance from E&M a plumber said, ""Oh Vance."" and another plumber said he had heard similar Vance stories from other people who had similar experiences.

I have Benoure plumbing coming to make sure that my boilers are not damaged. I am quite worried as they are new and expensive. No one else has touched them, so if things wrong it will have been Vance. I feel bad as Vance is nice, and wasn't going to post a review, but when I called the owner there was no offer of an adjustment in the bill. An offer for another technician to check Vance's work, but why would I trust these people. Also he said he wasn't going to discuss the time with me as he had GPS in the van and it said Vance was in my driveway for 3.5 hours. Well, came at 9 and was gone by 11, so.... that's not 3.5 hours. The owner, also pleasant, told me that sometimes boilers adjust themselves or get power surged and that Vance knew what he was doing. As to power surges, my tenants' computers had no issues. I had heard good things about E&M. Perhaps the plumbers vary.

Do not use for plumbing! Hired to put in two frost-free water sources on our farm. They damaged the electrical conduit to our well (even though it was marked) requiring the expense of the emergency electrician. They left a huge pile of dirt in the yard so that we could fill the holes left by their digging. The did not finish the job the first time as they did not have the diaphragms to put on the faucets. When they came back in the summer to put the diaphragms on, the technician had no idea how to do it, he had to ask to borrow our tools to do the job, and it has resulted in the water sources no longer working.

Do not hire this firm to fix your residential air conditioning unit. After replacing the control board it stopped working after 5 days. Tyler, the technician who came out to inspect what happened, he recommended another control board as well as replacing the inducer which was very new. After hiring Vermont gas to come in and inspect the job ... All they did was hitch up the cables Tyler left disconnected and everything worked, saving me hundreds of dollars
