Wiley and Lois D'Spain started D'Spain Sales and Service in Bandera in 1974, after they took an invitation to acquire the HVAC, appliance, and well systems departments from the Langford Company, where Wiley had been employed for 10 years. In the beginning, Wiley had an innate talent for all things related to mechanics and a true passion for wind energy, having grown up on a ranch in a nearby county. Lois grew up in East Texas and eventually moved to Bandera after a charming visit one summer. She and Wiley had been in union for 23 years before starting the operation. Wiley handled all of the HVAC, appliance, and water well product sales and support, while Lois managed all the financial practices. Spending late hours and off-hours after her primary job, Lois oversaw all the bookkeeping and financial practices of the operation.
