Plumbing Nerds is the newest version of the water company established by John Verhoff after relocating in Southwest Florida in 2007. In the beginning, he worked on building projects. But, after weathering the 2008-2009 recession, he realized that partnering with contractors did not provide the flexibility over his work processes that he wanted.

In 2012, he redirected his attention to residential plumbing, first collaborating with a colleague on a venture that had offices in the Sunshine State and additional states. When he acquired his associate on the local portion of the business in 2016, he needed a fresh name and brand. This is when Plumbing Nerds was created.
