Richard Blanchard established Drain-Away Sewer & Drain Service in 1991, building on experience from 1974. With perseverance and dedication, our business has grown to meet the needs of both homeowners and businesses.

I began my journey in 1973 by helping a friend operate a Roto-Rooter in the Albany area. As the year went on, I discovered my passion for diagnosing and resolving customer issues.
In 1974, I took on the role of service technician at Roto-Rooter, later launching a franchise in Berkshire County, MA in 1979. In 1982, I transitioned to Rensselaer County, NY to run a second franchise. I recognized my desire to be back in the northeast, which motivated me to return in 1991 and launch my own operation.

Maria D.They cleared our drains last year and did good work. We were put on a plan that involved them coming out on a yearly basis,clearing the drains, thus avoiding problems before they start. We had 2 appointments set up for our yearly service and they cancelled them both,citing plumbing emergencies. I get it, I realize that things happen and people have emergencies, but this company had no interest in keeping our business. They told us they would call us back and they didn't. We finally had to call them back and at that point we cancelled.
Brianna N.I was having some plumbing issues with my basement bathroom. My regular plumber was unable to get to me within a reasonable time period, so it was suggested that I call Drain-Away. I was able to set up an appointment for the next day. They guy they sent, Andre, traveled from Schenectady to Watervliet and arrived right on time.
After he determined the issue and cleared the clog, he said that since there was too much build-up to flush, my mother and I would have to use the wet/dry vac to get some of it out and then dump it (ewww!). We were willing to do the dirty task, but were not thrilled about it, as you can imagine. When he came back inside so that I could pay him, he told my mother that he used our shop vac to get some of that stuff out of the toilet for us. He said he saw the looks on our faces and thought he'd do that part for us and we'd just take care of the rest. That was SO nice of him. He didn't have to do that (if it were me, I wouldn't have done it).
I don't know if all of the plumbers as Drain-Away are as nice as Andre, but because of him, they definitely get my seal of approval.
