If you want a proper HVAC installation, I highly recommend you get an estimate from Donmar Company. We got our furnace, air conditioner, and water heater replaced at the same time since they were getting old and a growing number of problems were appearing. It didn't make sense to spend more money trying to repair it. It was also obvious that the previous installer (hired by the previous owners of our house) cut corners and didn't even match the tonnage on the condenser and evaporator units. So, it was time to get a replacement.
We ended up getting the Carrier Infinity system with zoning and the Infinity thermostat and zone sensor. Along with a UV light and humidifier. We also needed to get ductwork done, automatic dampers added, as well as rearranging some gas lines to our water heater and furnace. Having the zoning and 2-stage systems has made our multi level home more comfortable with even temperatures on each floor.
We worked with Michael W. on the estimates and he was really helpful in answering all my questions in person and on the phone. I think he even came a few times during the installation to check on things. Edgar was the lead technician doing the 3 day installation and did a superior job. Wow, I was impressed with how good the install was! He was very detailed oriented and explained everything clearly along the way. I had a lot of questions and he answered them all. It was assuring that he has been with the company for a long time and has a lot of experience.
The install by Edgar and other technicians was done really well. I did a ton of research on what to look out for, and how the install quality is more important than the equipment. Donmar uses a check list that goes through all the proper procedures of setting up the HVAC system (pulling vacuum, pressure testing, providing manuals, etc). They installed the appropriate items like having different shut off protections, having system and condenser on risers, air sealing, insulating the line set, etc. The technicians wore face masks, shoe coverings, uniforms, covered the basement carpet, swept the floor after they were done, etc. They replaced the insulation on my existing line set, replaced the disconnect box, avoided sharp angles on new ductwork, rebuilt my supply box (which had been poorly designed), rebuilt the gas exhaust pipes, and more. They pulled permits and gave me instructions on setting up an inspection with the county. They also registered for the warranties super fast. I received the warranty registration confirmations through the mail in just a few days, and got an e-mail for the Carrier warranty registration the same day they were done with the installation. It just shows that they are diligent and detailed oriented.
I got multiple estimates, and one company said they couldn't install a 4 inch filter because the gas line was in the way. Well, guess what? Edgar and his team at Donmar was able to redesign the gas line so it wasn't in the way. Donmar had a fair estimate and I liked that they performed all the appropriate procedures to ensure a long lasting HVAC system, as well as being really easy to reach and very responsive when you call them. They provide a 2 year labor warranty on their work. Throughout the entire process they were honest and showed integrity.
I saw a few negative reviews, but if you read them, they don't really make sense. There is one about the price of the thermostat. The Carrier Infinity thermostat is really expensive. It's easy to find the retail price online. Then there is some person who left the same negative feedback over and over. Then there are a couple that look like it was written by the same person using different accounts. So it's important to read the actual feedback instead of just looking at the rating. My experience was positive, and I highly recommend using Donmar for a new HVAC installation.
There was a small issue with a defective part in the furnace and Donmar fixed it quickly. The technician, Kien, did a thorough job testing everything to find the issue and replace the appropriate part.
It looks like Donmar has a lot of great processes in place. Some I already mentioned. I also like that they will text you when the technician (along with their photo) is about to arrive and you can track them in real time online. Don't hesitate to give them a call.
Brian S.I had both of my AC units replaced by Donmar (needed to have a crane hoist the units onto my rooftop deck). Superb service. On time, very professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and safe. My technician was Edgar....he is an outstanding technician. House is much cooler and efficient. Carrier equipment installed is great. Extremely pleased with the performance by Donmar.....will definitely use them again. Strongly recommended!
While recently having some electrical work done on my home, the electrician noted that whoever replaced my AC unit hadn't properly terminated the 2nd (now unneeded) power line into a junction box. It was terminated with black electrical tape & plastic caps. Worried, I contacted Donmar after safely turning off that breaker. Would Donmar stand by their work and fix a 10+ year old issue?
Yep - Don saw the photos I emailed and had someone there within hours to address the issue free of charge. Thank You Don & Kien for taking ownership of this and making it look great. I can't help but continue to recommend Donmar based on their integrity in handling this circumstance and the current management there
Used this company for 10 years and always received good service and felt they treated us fair. However, today they ripped me off by adding an extra $95 charge for a maintenance plan that I never asked for. I asked them to inspect my system and they sent a technician named 'Kien'. After he was done with the inspection, he described the work he suggested we have done which we agreed to. After the work was compete, I was not available and he had my wife pay and without any notice or permission, he slipped an extra unapproved charge for a bogus annual maintenance plan. And what's worse and even more unethical is he knew we are selling the house and wouldn't need such a plan. Beware !!!!!
Howard M.In early 2016 I purchased a high end Carrier Infinity System + Hot Water Heater from Donmar which cost over 10k. At the time I decided I wanted to use my Nest Thermostat instead of the Carrier Infinity Thermostat.
They were fast an efficient getting the system installed and I was very happy, at least to start. One of the features I opted for was the whole house humidifier. Lets just say it wasn't working correctly and took I think 4 trips out to my house to fix it. First they moved the water line from the cold water to the hot water line (which I've since learned isn't a good idea because of mineral buildup). Then they came out and rewired the electrical junction box so it would stop shutting off. Then they came out and replaced the solenoid valve and lastly they replaced the humidifier pad.
With the humidifier finally working I thought all was well, a year later I renewed my service contract with them and even refereed a co-worker to them who ended up purchasing a whole new system.
After reading a lot of stuff online I finally decided I was going to swap out the Nest Thermostat for the Carrier one. I emailed Donmar to ask what it would cost to get one installed. The response I got was, ""It's expensive. $879 installed- no discounts."" So I asked what if I purchased one elsewhere and just had them install it, the reply I got back was there was a $150 rebate so it would really only be $729 installed (not answering my question).
I then asked again if I purchased my own would they come install it for under $200, they could tie it in with the annual service they would already be coming out to do.
I was told no and the cheapest they would do it for was $325, so I countered and asked if they would do it for $250. But the response back was they wouldn't budge on $325 cost just for the install.
So just doing the math they wanted to charge me $729 for the thermostat + install which means the thermostat cost $404. That means they wanted to charge me $162 an hour in labor (assuming it took 2 hours to install) and they would have already had a tech at my house doing the annual maintenance.
I bought a 10k system from them, referred a co-worker who also bought a very expensive system from them and I had renewed an annual maintenance contract with them and they wouldn't budge at all.
Needless to say I found another Carrier Certified company who installed the Thermostat in 30 minutes and charged me $75, I am now using them for my annual maintenance and will not be recommending Donmar Company anymore.
Their service is super pricy. They have groupon deals that you pay minimum amount for them to come and inspect your A/C and say it has several problems. But they will charge you crazy for doing the suggested repairs. I cannot believe for 15 mins worth of work with minimal tools required, they made me pay $320. I will never ever go back to them.

a rental property we have in Ashburn.
The technicians that were deployed were knowledgeable and the service they performed have always exceeded my expectations.
Lily L.I had a routine AC maintenance appointment which uncovered the need to replace my capacitor and cleaning of the compressor unit. I found Rapheal P. from Donmar to be easy to work with, the prices were reasonable, and he didn't try to pressure me into buying extra services. The capacitor had a 1 year warranty which was great because a few weeks later, a field mouse somehow found its way into the housing and shorted the darn thing, so it had to be replaced. I would definitely recommend Donmar/ Raphael!
