I used this company since my usual company was unable to make it during my specified timeframe. I still like that company. Anyway, I just so happened to call and received an end of day appointment. I had to run out for an item, so I called to let them know I was stepping out for a little bit. Unfortunately, that wasn't communicated to the technician, but he waited for about an hour. I just happened to get in just in time before he departed. He provided excellent service and was courteous even though he had to wait for me. He made a suggestion about a thermostat and he had the office email me the details about it. Excellent!! The new thermostat was a workaround to mess up caused by my remodeling contractor with my smart thermostat. I would use them again.

I am writing an update to my recent review on DM Select Services. Mr. Workman, the company owner, contacted me regarding my previous YELP review and offered to do what was necessary to resolve the problem. I met with him and an associate the following day at my home. He arrived exactly at the promised time. His technician worked on my furnace to resolve a problem with excess noise that resulted when my furnace motor was replaced. But what I appreciated most was that Mr. Workman refunded the entire previous service charge amount, which was credited back to my credit card the following day. I found him to be a good listener and willing to do what was necessary to correct a previous problem. I also found him to be a good guy, with some interests in common with me. It was very gratifying to know that there are still some businesses where integrity and customer satisfaction are paramount. Thank you Jim Workman!

We had a great experience with Select and ended up getting the yearly service package. We had some condensation on the ducts. I emailed Select on a Saturday and they emailed back late that night. I followed up with a call Monday and had someone at the house by Wednesday. They arrived on time and were really nice. They did a service of the system, checked everything out and talked through three issue. They didn't end up fixing it- just making suggestions to things beyond their regular work that I had done shortly after- but the suggestions worked and we really appreciated the conversation about the problems. Service is so hit or miss it was good to find a place that did the small things right- on time, knowledgable, not sketchy.

Five days ago. on Select Heating and Cooling's web page, I asked for an estimate for fixing our A/C fan, which just stopped turning. But my request just fell on deaf ears, although they had a totally different attitude three and half years ago when they came to bid for the whole system installation ($6,500) . At that time, the response was instantaneous. And now we are in another fierce heat wave. Would any decent company leave its customers in the lurch?

I contacted Select Heating for the first time on August 2, 2016 for a no cooling problem. When I inquired about service rates I was told there is no hourly rate, they would quote me after a $95 dollar diagnostic fee (applied toward quote).
Technician Patrick arrived on schedule and found bad compressor start-run cap in less than 10 minutes. He had the replacement part on truck and I asked what price would be to install. Patrick said it would be $350. There was no alternative. I told him I can replace this $10 part easily and that I would pay only their $95 dollar diagnostic charge and he could go.
Part replace and system good.
It just seems very weird that they would not consider the rip off nature of their business pricing practice. I myself am a Service Manager for a Field Service Electronics company, There should be an hourly rate offered.
I cannot recommend Select because people are going to pay way too much due to a completely arbitrary pricing system. Sadly many HVAC companies have the exact same price policy.
People must not support these companies !!!

7/28/2016 UPDATE -- After speaking to Jim - he did right by us. I think this speaks to the owner's commitment to his customers. I salute you Jim for being a hands-on and well grounded person. Our experience did not leave a bad taste in our mouth. I will not let one bad apple destroy an otherwise good organization. We were assured by Jim that his staff and techs will be trained so this does not happen to someone else. Again, kudos to Jim.


7/27/2016:
Totally unacceptable.

I've had a service contract with Select for years... each year they come to tune-up my system (Spring & Fall). Each time a tune-up is performed, there are no issues found. HOWEVER, almost every year, something about my system breaks. This summer, my A/C stopped blowing cold air. We called Select... they got us scheduled in the PM hours. My wife waited all-day, needless to say, she had to shuffle things around, etc. Later that afternoon, she received a call saying they're rescheduling her for the following day because the technician had already gone home for the day. We eventually got reschedule for the following day.

When the technician came, his diagnosis states that there was no valve cap so the freon leaked causing the capacitor to blow up.Here's his reasoning - some kid may have jumped over your fence to sniff the freon to get high. THIS, despite the fact that I have evergreen trees up against the fence in some areas where ""kids"" could possibly jump over AND, my neighbors not having any fence with DIRECT and easy access to their compressor.

I argued that if it was the missing valve end-cap that caused the leak that they should be responsible for it because nobody's ever touched that system other than them. And I am not buying the kid sniffing all my freon because just next to that compressor is another compressor that Select never touches (still under warranty) and it's perfectly fine, not an issue ever!

Since there's no getting through to the guy, we were forced to accept a $798 bill for the capacitor, locking caps, ""stop-leak"" (more on this) & freon. Now, the leak stop... I thought it was the missing valve end-cap that caused the leak?

I think it's these types of shady business practices and the fact that my wife did not have any clue about what's going on, plus the feeling of being held hostage by a service contract and the urgent need that's causing us to lose faith in humanity.

I will certainly not renew my service contract with Select Heating and the same goes for ALL the properties I own and manage (I'm a realtor, investor & property manager).
