The plumber who came to the house lied to us. He offered to try to fix our sump pump first, then if he wasn't able to, he would replace it. He worked on it for 2 hours and charged us $695. It was then 3:00PM on New Year's Eve and he said that he wouldn't be able to get parts. At that point he told us he'd contact us at the beginning of next week with estimates. He never did, and after leaving messages for 3 days, the owner finally called to say that he might be able to send someone out in 2 days to replace the pump. I told him to forget it. My elderly mother who is in hospice has already been without a bathroom for a week.

After reaching out to a couple of pluming companies that don't provide commercial repair service, I found Discover on yelp and contacted them as my last hope. I mentioned we are a preschool and needed urgent service. They expedited the work and did an excellent job. Thank you Discover Plumbing for helping us! :)

Today, 8/10/20, we had an emergency at our house where the sewer water came up. We had a toilet and downstairs plumbing clogged up.
This was our first time we called Discover Plumbing and Rooter. They answered the call promptly and two men showed up in their truck, within the time they promised, actually very shortly.
The work wasn't easy but they did an excellent job out of a messy situation.
Kevin and the other man (my husband didn't catch his name), worked hard, unclogged our lines, put the toilet back in, and cleaned up after themselves really nicely.
That means a lot.
The whole time they worked they had their masks on.
We are very happy with Kevin and the other men, and also with Discover Plumbing and Rooter.
We are glad we discovered you guys!

Don't know where to begin. The following is an account of my ""Discovering"" that home plumbing is essential. This is the most important Yelp! review I've ever done and it will be long.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and at the beginning of the shelter in place mandate when we were all in panic mode, my sewer line backed up. It was partly because of its age (I happened to be renting the basement inlaw unit back in 1983 when it had been replaced), and also because of a beautiful but aggressive tree I decided to plant 10 years ago. Shit and flotsam and detritus backed up all over the basement in-law that I'd just renovated as my Mancave, in a tiny, 130 year-old one bedroom cottage.
The whole situation reminded me of my last long-term relationship.
Thought I could get away with a simple rootering. I found Ferrin from Yelp. But his rooter broke and the camera revealed severe cracks in the pipe in several paces, with roots from the tree growing all the way down the inside of my retaining wall (my old house is up on a steep hill, set back from the street) and into the sidewalk. All of the pipe, all the way up to the house, had to be replaced.
As a rule, I do not trust men. (see above comment about my ex). I especially don't trust men to do things that I do not understand and/or can't do myself. Trenching on this steep property to replace the pipes would have involved bulldozers and maybe helicopters. In the middle of this unprecedented plague, I could not flush a toilet, take a shower -- or stay with friends. Ferrin said he had a machine that could tunnel in a new pipe without trenching. But the old steel galvanized water pipe that had been placed by some genius right next to the sewer line would crack if they did that. Old steel pipes rust inside, just like my own clogged arteries. But Lipitor and similar meds not cure them.
Because I had tolerated living in this house for decades with a trickle of low water pressure, I knew my outside water line to the house needed to be replaced with copper pipe. Everything that Ferrin said made perfect sense and won my trust and respect. Over the years, I had to have the pipes within the house replaced with copper, bit by bit, for various leaky reasons. But still, you couldn't brush your teeth while last night's date was taking a shower. A flushed toilet took five minutes to refill the tank, so any laundry or dishwasher cycle had to be paused. That SCUBA diving trip to Tahiti seemed more fun than copper pipes -- until I no longer had water going into and out of my home.
The quote was the price of a new, low-end Hyundai. WTF! Didn't happen to have that cash in my pocket.... Was in shock, but time to do some adulting. Doing unspeakable things in my backyard was not working.
Meanwhile, as an immunology research scientist, my job is considered essential, so I had to go to work (now, suddenly on a new project for this fucking asshole virus) and did not have time to deal with water and waste pipes.
So, I took out another credit card and hired Discover Plumbing.
There were 5 days of jackhammering the sidewalk, pipes everywhere, welding, 6 or 7 guys, three vans on the street, traffic cones, and city permits. This was clearly a big job. Without water, I stayed in a hotel. At 3% occupancy during quarantine, it was affordable.
Ferrin and his crew were unbelievably professional, skilled, efficient, and kind. Unexpected problems kept coming up -- a new partial retaining wall, a new fence. SF City Permits. But despite all that, he kept to the same quote. The crew continued work after hours and on Saturday. I hope that my business helped keep this crew employed during these difficult times.
Now I have enough water pressure to cool a nuclear power plant reactor. And I can take a shower while doing a load of laundry and running the dishwasher. The toilet tank takes less than 15 seconds to refill. It's almost like living in a normal house. This odyssey was a fantastic investment. I am so proud of my home plumbing and the fact that there's one thing I've done to this house that is actually to code and is permitted!
Throughout this experience, the fact that billions of people on this planet lack basic indoor plumbing and clean water was not lost on me. Some of us take these things for granted. Every aspect of civilization relies on fresh water. The skilled professionals who provide this are as essential to health as doctors.
After the job was done, I found that the water line to my backyard (further up the hill) wasn't working. It was part the old galvanized steel circuit and had been a tiny trickle, but it was not something on Ferin's radar. He and one guy came back and they both spent half a day installing new copper pipe to my backyard. No charge.
I would highly recommend Discover Plumbing, especially for big jobs like this.
Last comment -- all the guys on this crew are good looking, lol!

I cannot recommend Faren and Discover Plumbing highly enough.
I own a small residential building (just two apartments). Friday morning one of my tenants called and said that there was a problem with their water heater. I figured that I knew what was wrong so I went by, removed the problem part, got a replacement and installed it. And . . . I was wrong.
So, at three in the afternoon on a Friday I had to find a plumber to figure out what was wrong. Extra important on when your tenants don't have any hot water right before the weekend. I friend referred me to Faren and I gave him a call.
One hour later, Vlad showed up at the building. He checked out the problem, agreed with me that it was time for a new heater and left to get one. He was back in less than an hour and the new heater was installed by 7. The job was professionally done (including a new and properly installed earthquake strap and new shut off valve) and Vlad left the job site perfectly clean. Plus, since it's Covid-Time, he wore a proper respirator the entire time he was working.
Discover Plumbing is now my go-to, get-it-done plumbing company!

I called them to fix a leak in my bathroom sink - I knew where the leak was coming from and showed them. They took apart the plumbing and told me I needed new part and it would cost 300, there was no leak coming from this area they told me it would be $125 to put it back and no guarantees on the work please avoid this company

We had a water heater that sprung a leak and flooded the garage. So it was a bit of an emergency.
Called Discover Plumbing in the morning and they sent someone in the afternoon, gave us a quote and fixed everything in two hours. The work was very clean, neat and professional. And they gave us a 100 dollar discount after everything was done.
We really appreciate the speed and the quality of work by Discover plumbing! Thanks! Great work.

Quick response, timely arrival, excellent work, fair prices and no leaks. What more could you want from a plumber? Don't hesitate to call them if you need help.

These guys were awesome! They came out in a timely manner, took care of the problem quickly and at a lower rate than other folks I've tried, and also went over long term solutions to a recurring problem I've had. No pressure, very professional, would use again!

I woke up this morning to a completely clogged kitchen sink. I called Discover at 7:30, got a call back at 7:35, and they came and fixed two drains by the end of the day. I was charged what I was quoted. What could have been a small disaster was just a minor inconvenience because of Discover!
