Totally agree with everything Sherry K. stated. My circumstances were the same except this time Discount Contractors modification charges were going to be $2700, which would not be covered by American Home Shield warranty. I declined the services and accepted the pitiful, pathetic American Home Shield ""cash-in-lieu"" offer to get my own hot water tank and contractor. I was very dissatisfied with both companies and would not recommend either, American Home Shield or Discount Contractors.

The has to be one of the worst companies I have EVER dealt with!!!! Unfortunately I have American Home Shield (the absolute worst home warranty you can buy! Run as fast as you can from this company too!!) I had to get a new hot water heater so I went through my very expensive home warranty company. They have terrible contractors to begin with, but this one is the absolute worst! First, they made sure they put down installation of pipes as ""modifications"" so I would have to pay for it instead of being part of my warranty they decided my cost were $1800. They insisted on CASH, no credit card no checks. Not only did it have to be cash, but they made me pay it to the person who came to do the installation upfront before the guy would even start the work. I was very leery of this to begin with, I have never heard of a legitimate company that would tell you you have to pay cash and advance before any work will begin! No one else that I talked to had heard of this either! They set the time at their leisure, with no effort whatsoever to make it convenient for me. They put the water heater in and I have barely lukewarm water when I turn the faucet on the hottest setting. I called this morning to try to have someone come out to recheck it per the AHS website, which says to call the contractor directly if you need a recheck. But instead of saying OK sorry, we'll come back out and check it, they told me I had to put in another order with AHS! Once again I have to wait for them to decide to call me and set up a time, of course, at their convenience, to come back out. They are argumentative and rude even the manager. They give you no company warranty or guarantee even for labor.

Looking at their reviews online, the BBB has them at a rating of 1.5 out of 5 (BBB doesn't have them in their list as a recommended company) and another site has them at 4 out of a possible 17! The companies like this can do whatever they want because they know you are caught between a rock and a hard place. The warranty company gives you very little as a payout, certainly not enough to even pay for a hot water heater much less installation. If you don't want to spend a ton more money then you are stuck with what they give you. However if you have a choice, stay clear of Discount
Contractors!!
