Dick Ray Master Plumber Heating and Cooling
Company Overview
The Kansas City area has been our family's home since 1854. We specialize in services such as air conditioning repair, heating and cooling, furnace maintenance, plumbing, and sump pump repairs. Our skilled team is equipped to handle any drainage problem. Our drain cleaning services tackle clogged showers, toilets, mineral backups, and other drainage challenges. In addition, Dick Ray provides septic tank replacements, grease trap interceptor services, bathroom remodels, and comprehensive plumbing, heating, and cooling services. Our licenses allow us to work in multiple cities throughout the Kansas City Metro area, including Master Plumber, Master Mechanic, and Refrigeration Supervisor. These licenses are obtained by passing a demanding examination. Our work is performed with pride, ensuring it is done right the first time. Cutting corners is not in our practice. Should we err, we will come back at any time, provided you own the building, to fix it at our expense. Dick Ray Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling imposes no one-year limit on discovering inadequate workmanship! A significant number of our team members have completed college education.
In 1950, Dick Ray, who had recently served as the commanding officer of a Navy LCI, launched his plumbing business. During the war, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. His family immigrated to Kansas City from England during the gold rush and has remained ever since. His uncles contributed to the installation of Kansas City's first sewer.
Starting with only a pair of pipe wrenches, he launched his plumbing business. Since he couldn't afford a truck, he relied on the family car for his first service calls. He transported pipes and heavy fittings in a trailer. His wife managed phone calls at home while raising their three children. She fielded service calls, and Dick Ray took them over the phone to address the jobs. Even in those times, they provided round-the-clock service.
The family that arrived in Kansas City from England and helped lay the first sewer six generations ago is still thriving. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941, Dick Ray was a student at the University of Washington in Seattle. He left Seattle to join the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign.
After a tour in the South Pacific, he returned to New Orleans as the commanding officer of his LCI, where the vessel was decommissioned at the war's conclusion.
Three years later, in 1949, back in his hometown of Kansas City, Dick started his plumbing business and began a family with his new wife, Shirley. Unable to afford a truck, he started his business using the family Chevy for service calls, pulling an equipment trailer. Dick took on all the labor by himself, as he had no assistants. Shirley managed phone calls at their home in Merriam while also caring for their three kids. She often took service calls and communicated the work orders to Dick.
Even in those early days, they provided 24-hour service. The phone rang by Dick's bedside, and he was always ready to take the call.

Horrible, if I could give zero stars I would. I called after hours with an emergency & spoke to someone who dispatched a technician but no one ever showed or called me back. So much for EMERGENCY 24 hour service...

Dick Ray did work for us 11/14/19. The check was cashed today, 7/1/20. Ridiculous!

Was hoping to use this company as they seem to get great reviews. I was referred via my home owner's warranty program when our AC went out on a 93 degree day. Originally, Dick Ray said they could see me that day (a Saturday), gave me my two hour window and we were all set! Then I got a notification from my home warranty program that Dick Ray had subsequently rejected the job. I called back to see what was up and they told me never mind they don't have that window and can see me after hours but I'd have to I pay an emergency rate. When I pushed back indicating this was not my mistake, they put me on hold only to come back and tell me never mind, they can only schedule homeowner warranty jobs Monday through Friday, and by the way they can't actually have someone cone out for two weeks, because they only have one technician who works with the home warranty program jobs. I don't like to be obnoxious about reviews, they seemed nice enough. Just a warning that if you are planning on going through your homeowner's warranty, Dick Ray may not be very helpful. They were extremely unhelpful in my case- ate up an hour of my time with a lot of misinformation, and ultimately could not accommodate the job in anything that would be considered a timely manner.

Their truck hauling a trailer with loose rock on 635N at 6:00 pm , Wednesday May 6,2020, with rock bouncing off trailer and hitting other vehicles, the rocks hit my windshield several times, even when I was in the other lane. I called the company, left a message with the answering service, and still no call back from them.

Please run and do not use them. Their technician came out and fell through the ceiling in our kitchen. We explained to them we will pay the $65 fee when they come out and fix our ceiling and technician got upset. I called the office and no apology for the inconvenience, but they focused on the $65 at which time I told them I wanted to make sure someone came back before paying and all I got was a laugh and no apology. I explained our 81 year old mother had chemo and can not be ingesting anything coming from the attic, no empathy but more laughing about us not paying the $65. We are close to a month later and no update so I call again and finally talk to Jewel who is much more pleasant but states their drywall person is way behind with no ETA and I explain my mom having chemo again and I explain they need to hire someone else. Terrible service for an incident your technician is responsible for so please steer clear of this company. If I hear back soon I will update this post!

Our heater went out in 18 degree weather this weekend. I spoke with the office manager, who reassured me that we wouldn't have a house fire, and suggested we wait until Monday morning to make an appointment, because it would save us a couple hundred dollars - so already got a yahoo for both answering the phone at night on the weekend and for being upfront on what they could do. Dan came this morning, he was super professional, kind, and we have a warm toasty house now. He was upfront on what broke and what needed to happen, and explained the invoice easily for me. So thank you guys!

I was very impressed with Dick Ray Master Plumber Heating & Cooling. First, I spoke with Lisa who helped me set up my appointment. Since the referral/fix of my A/C was through a home warranty company, Lisa was great about getting me set up with their first available appointment which was the next day. After setting up the appointment, she even called me back to see if possibly she could help me fix the issue over the phone (unfortunately my issue was a part that needed to be replaced). The next day Cody came out and repaired my unit. He arrived on time, completed the work in a timely manner and patiently answered all my questions. I was very happy with both the customer service and actual service/repairs I received. I would highly recommend the company I will contact them in the future if I have any plumbing or HVAC issues.

Been using their service for years. Always prompt, courteous and efficient. Zak was the technician who diagnosed and repaired my furnace. He kept me informed and explained what was repaired. Lisa in the office was very helpful with scheduling and billing. If you are looking for HVAC or plumbing needs in the KC metro area, look no further!

If zero stars was an option they'd get zero. I had them out to look at an AC unit at my house. The repair guy told me I had a huge leak in my AC coil and I needed to replace the unit. He told me it was dangerous to have anyone downstairs and suggested I not light any candles due to the risk of freon combustion.
I paid these guys almost a hundred bucks for the service call but before I spent 3-5k on a new AC unit I called another company to come and give me a second opinion. Not only was there NO LEAK, the problem with the unit was a simple fan issue!
I don't know if it was just this one repair guy or if this is how Mission operates but I considered calling the BBB to lodge a formal complaint. IF you call these guys out don't assume they're telling you the truth. They nearly turned my $200 problem into a 3k payday for them.

I have had Dick Ray plumbing out to my house twice for two different issues. The technician, Zac, was honest and didn't try to over charge me. Both jobs were not very easy! I would call them again for any plumbing issues!
