Employees were nice and knowledgeable but the fees/charges are very high. An emergency call out was $299, including work, and a planed appointment to reconnect a faucet and garbage disposal they disconnected, time to complete approximately 2 hours, $800. Something doesn't seem right. Sorry to have to look for another plumbing service.
I had a terrible experience with D&L plumbing to fix a leaking faucet. I made an appointment seven days before they were supposed to arrive. I was told they would arrive at 8 sharp November 30. I called at 10 to see what was going on. The lady said I was next in line since there had been a scheduling error. By noon I called again. I was told maybe it would have to be tomorrow. I should have read other reviews to see just how terrible others have rated them. Worst customer service I have had in years.
Camille A.Trevor could not have been more friendly and knowledgeable, and addressed our leak issue on the spot. We are new homeowners, and he took the time to inspect all our infrastructure, show us the location and how to use our water shutoff options, and give us a few other plumbing tips along the way. He was prompt, did the work we had requested quickly and efficiently, and made the whole process completely effortless.
Sarah H.Booked them strictly because they were the only plumbers available on the day that I needed work done. Despite communicating a specific plumbing need (install new shower valve, remove the old pipes coming out of the opposite wall), the plumber, Joe, took me through an hour long hard sell to repipe my whole house. I had to tell him no 4 times with increasingly insurmountable reasons for not doing that before he begrudgingly started to work on the task at hand. Prices are by the job, and he told me what it'd be for this one, and I signed an agreement to that end. Mid-way through the job, I checked in to see how it was going and noticed he hadn't touched the second wall I mentioned needing the old pipes removed, so I reminded him. He said he'd get to it and he didn't forget. About an hour later, I saw him packing up to leave and the old pipes were still there and he explained, exasperated and annoyed, that 1) the head office was badgering him to leave to start a different job, 2) he already ""went above and beyond"" for me by repiping something under the house that wasn't included in the bid originally (first I'd heard of it), and 3) that the work on the second wall wasn't part of the bid and would be an additional $500 cause it involves opening a new wall. I told him I absolutely needed it done, so while I was upset about the sudden $500 charge when the work was clearly communicated from the beginning, if I had to pay it so be it. He then told me the people who would be doing my tile work on the walls would remove it for me, again trying to get out of doing that work. That didn't fly though, as I was the one doing the tile, and I don't have the tools necessary to remove galvanized piping which is the whole reason I hired them in the first place. After all this, he unpacked some of his tools and got the pipes removed out of the wall, resulting in a half-hour of work for a 4x4 hole in the wall totaling $500 additional. Perhaps if he hadn't have spent the first hour trying to squeeze more money out of me, he would have had time to do the job properly. There was a lot more that he tried to up-sell me on throughout, and I fully believe I was taken advantage of due to being a single woman AND being a homeowner on a time crunch. Horribly unprofessional, uncomfortable, and tone deaf enough to still send me the estimates for the various things they quoted me on in the ""future"".
Chris R.My household had a terrible experience with D&F Plumbing, and I wanted to write this review to hopefully prevent others from having similar experiences and to help the company change. I'll do my best to be brief and objective in highlighting the issues with this company and our plumbing experience.
We had plumbers Aaron and Brandon come to fix a leak we had been experiencing from a pipe leaking through our ceiling.
Aaron initially quoted us $1300, when he opened up our ceiling and saw the issue two days later after the assessment, the price became $3500. They then worked on it for about 12 hours that day. They left on a few occasions for between 30 min - 1 hr each time without communicating where they were going. Aaron frequently seemed frustrated at how challenging the job was telling us at different points that he was frustrated, ""had tried every trick in the book"", and that it ""was the hardest job I've ever had"". Totally reasonable for a job to be hard, but they did not bring in any back-up or admit that it may have been a job outside their scope.
The end result of their job was a pipe jutting outwards from our wall rather than within the wall, excessive demolition of the wall and ceiling beyond what was needed, a hole in the wall in the adjacent room to the pipes, a toilet put back in the floor out of alignment with exposed cracks in the floor, and to top it off one of the pipes leaked periodically for at least that evening, we had to put a bucket down. I've attached pictures of some of this. They left the house very dirty without cleaning up various leftovers of drywall dust and debris. Aaron did not say anything about the hole in our kitchen wall. The way they finished this job will require us paying contractors and plumbing much more than we would have needed if we had gone with another plumber initially.
Aftermath:
The next day, we initially called to complain about the plumbing job, they said they would get back to us with someone more in charge of the business, they never did. Instead plumber Aaron shows up at our house unannounced that day. He sat around our living room waiting for my landlord to finish up with counseling sessions he already had scheduled. It was very awkward to have a stranger, in Covid times especially, milling around our common areas. When asked why he was here he stated ""I thought I would just come by, this isn't the kind of
thing you talk about over the phone, so I thought I would come in person."" When my landlord did talk to him, he was highly defensive.
We have tried reaching out to the company through a good friend's assistance who is a professional contractor, they have been evasive with him and have not gotten back in touch with him or us about this debacle of a plumbing job. He tried to visit them in person from the address listed here on google, he could not find any business at the address named or related to D&F Plumbing. Maybe they moved? It was very odd they didn't tell him that wasn't their address when he told the receptionist he was going to come talk in person.
We have had two contractors and another plumber come inspect their work and they all agree that it was poor quality work and that they were trying to overcharge us for what they were doing.
D&F Plumbing, there is still an opportunity for you to put this right. If you reach out to me I will connect you to the contractor who has been trying to get in touch with you. For everyone else, I would recommend you go elsewhere for your plumbing needs, at least as of now, this was a terrible plumbing experience for us and I wouldn't wish it on anyone else. It's sad that a company would put us through this and not communicate or try to make right their plumbing job during a time as difficult as this for all of us.
Jonathan O.Working with D & F Plumbing was an excellent experience, I wouldn't hesitate to call them again should I need their services. We called about having a tankless gas water heater installed and Joe H. came out quickly and gave me a thorough and fair estimate - there were no surprises and every detail was explained. We needed to have a gas line run to the heater, the unit itself, and the work. It was all upfront and fair. Joe H and Will F. arrived right on time on the day we scheduled and they worked all day until the job was completed. They treated our house so carefully and were really pleasant while they worked - they didn' mind our dog supervising them all day either, she didn't mind the attention either. We kept peeking at the work and both Joe H. and Will F. were patient in explaining what they were doing and they genuinely seemed excited with us that we have a brand new, amazing tankless water heater. They left the basement cleaner than when they arrived, the tank looks great, the exhaust vents are perfect and this job could not have gone better for us. If it was difficult for them they didn't let us know. After the job was done both Joe H. and Will F. spent time going over what they had done, the basics of operating the unit, and answered all of our questions.
I am sure Portland is filled with plumbers who are just as good, I doubt you'll find any better.
A poor experience, because they required a $119 charge just to show up and presented a $299 cost to unclog a drain.
Friendly, wore mask, took care of business... knew what he was doing.
Holly D.They would not give a price quote on the phone, only $119 to show up and that would be deducted from cost of work. My sink was leaking so I said ok because he was able to get to my home very quickly. He tightened the sink shutoff which stopped the leak in seconds by turning it off, then he tried to get me to replace it and the faucet. Then because he was here I asked him to look the tub since it drained a little slow starting mid-shower. OMG he worked on it for a long time and made it 10times worse! He left with the tub full of BLACK gunks and water, the overflow and drain covers were not replaced, just left on the bottom of the tub barely visible through the funk! I called the company they offered no resolution or solution except to give them another $4,000 to replace the pipe. Now I can't use the sink or tub!!!!
kate b.I am giving one star because at least they showed up. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
I only called because I needed help for a flood and it was after hours. The plumber they sent out did wear a mask but he basically had no idea what he was doing and took advantage of my situation by charging me for unnecessary services and fraudulently trying to set me up for continued repair I did NOT need. I could have been out over $4k when the job should have only cost around $700. The plumber completely lied and said the flange needed to be replaced because ""iron becomes soft."" Does he have any training at all??? It simply wasn't true and the flood was completely misdiagnosed. I tried to reach out and make the complaint to see if they could negotiate and understand what happened. Someone said they wanted to help but they ended up unable to even understand what happened and then never responded. I am a single working mom and I feel especially offended and exploited. DO NOT be fooled by these crooks!!!
