Notoriously, Devco sent Psycho to our place. He operates to their specifications, bait and switch with head-games. Maybe a special performance he does for women. So, let me tell you, Psycho informed me in September the work to complete is an 8 - 10-hour project for him at 120 per hour. You got it, 1200 tops, nothing more, I replied. The man tinkered around, passing the time at the end of the 2nd-day he began to hustle, run out the door as if his van was on fire, failing to advise me a water leak under the house and left a bowl under the sink. Upon departure, he tells me to call him for any reason, ensured I had his number then fails to show up after making arrangements on three separate occasions to meet at the house to correct his work. Another Contractor I called arrived two-weeks later to finish the job. The foundation crew removed the trash Psycho left in our crawlspace. In December, a bill from Devco arrived for over 2,100 dollars of which 1200 was paid with a letter of explanation. Their office continues to hound me for over 21 hundred, however they failed to pick up the phone when I called on several occasions. Do yourselves a favor, find a Contractor who can do an honest day's work for the money without sponging off you to support personal inadequacies of a psycho control freak.

I do not reccomend this plumbing company. I called them on Monday for a repair on my tankless water heater that wasn't working. I had no hot water at all. I gave the make and model number of the appliance. I get scheduled for a Thursday appointment. On Thursday the plumber could not make it in the morning (weather) but I was told he would be there that afternoon. No response on Thursday afternoon, which tells me he didn't even try going up there. Friday I get a call telling me that the plumber looked over the manual online and doesn't feel comfortable fixing it as he is not familiar with this water heater. So essentially they wasted an entire work week to tell me they can't fix it. So now I have to go another weekend and however many days into next week with no hot water. Not sure why this couldn't have been determined earlier in the week so I could schedule another company. And the rep on the phone was so nonchalant about it not even recognizing the fact that I had been without hot water for a week and now going to have to go another. Very unprofessional in my opinion.

My water line broke under my driveway so I had Devco replace it. At the same time I had them replace the sewer line because it was getting plugged up with roots. I asked them to have the city replace the sewer line from sidewalk to the city main because it was free and I didn't want any more problems. They did not. A month later my sewer line plugged up rite at the city main. I came home and my basement was flooded with sewer water. I called them and they sent someone out. Two hours later it was unplugged. When I asked why it wasn't replaced to the street like I asked I was told they scoped it and it looked fine so they decided not to have the city replace it even though it was free to me then they send me a bill for $260. Not rite.

To be fair, my issue isn't with the company as a whole as much as it is with the specific plumber they sent out. Monty (Devco's employee) was sent out to install a drain for a kitchen sink. There was an issue with the plumbing that was connected to the new drain which we later learned he failed to fix, when the drain clogged we were told it wasn't under warranty. When we called another contractor he informed us that Monty had glued everything together so there was no way to access the drain to unclog it and Monty's work didn't meet current building codes. When I contacted Devco about this issue they sent him out again and he again refused to correct the issue, refused to apologise or even offer a suggestion. ""If you knew about it, then you should have fixed it!"" was his only comment. What did we pay him for then?

Since writing this review, the owner of Devco called me personally and listened to my complaint including everything I list in this review including the snarky billing incident. He seemed genuinely sorry that I was treated in an unprofessional manner and promised to rectify the situation. His demeanor was sincere and professional. He sent out two workers who dug up and located the leak, It turned out to be a coupling 6"" downstream from the valve they installed and it is my opinion that while they were bending the PVC pipe around to fit the original valve the torque caused the seal on the coupling to fail. I believe this is what caused the leak. They replaced the leaking coupling, and back-filled the hole. Both workers were very friendly and professional. I am waiting to see if I am billed for the work. I will amend the review accordingly.
Original Review: My experience with Devco continues to be very frustrating, disappointing, expensive, and is still unresolved. I have a leak in my domestic water line. I say ""have"" because the line continues to leak at a valve that Devco installed. The last time they inspected the leak was over two weeks ago and since then we have not heard a word from anyone at Devco. We have been billed sometimes nearly triple our standard water rate since last September. On to my story: Because of the numerous storms last winter, Devco was unable to bring their back hoe to the job site which was on my neighbors property. Devco had excavated and exposed my domestic water line and left it exposed to 10 degree temps for a week until I went out during a snow storm and shoveled dirt into the open pits to keep my pipes from freezing. In addition to this, the person in charge of scheduling the equipment told me it would be available when in fact it was not. This occurred on at least two occasions. I can honestly say that on not one single occasion was the job supervisor on time. He was nearly always 30-45 minutes late and when I called their dispatcher, she was indifferent to my request that I be kept in the loop when they were going to be late. So, we are nearly 1 year into this mess and my line still leaks. One other thing: When I did not pay my bill right away ( we were out of the country for 1 month this past summer and did not receive the bill until we returned) we received a snarky email from Devco basically saying that they wanted partial or complete payment immediately because they had ""no history with us"" and were unsure of whether or not we would pay"".(We have lived in Hood River for 30 years and my wife owns a business downtown). We did in fact pay and reminded Devco that we still had a leak. The billing person said they "" would honor their guarantee and fix the leak that is due to their mistake"" however we have not heard a thing from anyone at Devco since the confirmed that there was a leak and told us that ""they would have to schedule the backhoe"". Now to be fair I have to say that the Hispanic worker that did all the digging and ran the backhoe was always on time, and was a pleasure to work with. Devco gave us a discount on our bill due to the scheduling mess-ups. Also the dispatcher wrote a letter to Crystal Springs Water explaining that it took 8 months to fix the leak due to mitigating circumstances. Trouble is: Ice fountain is our water company not Crystal Springs. Good intentions poor execution. Sound familiar?
Bottom Line: I should have listened to an associate in Hood River, and a friend who lives in the Dalles who both had bad experiences with Devco. I would never hire them again nor would I suggest anyone else hire them. They are extremely expensive, disorganized, and in my opinion unprofessional. Oh I might add that their billing department is far too lacking in basic courtesy for such a small close knit community. Rude might work in the big city but not in the Gorge.

Best plumber in Oregon!! Honest, professional, and fair!!! Ed and Erick did the gas and water systems in my food truck two years ago and it's still going strong! Truly a pillar of the community! They are based out of The Dalles, OR, but they are requested all over the gorge and the Portland area!!!! ...and for good reason.

I have had a bad experience with this company I had them put in a couple tanks for me I was with them the hole time they worked on it when I got my bill they over charged me by 2 and a half hours at $105 an hour when I talk to them about this I was called a liar that he would lie about the hours he worked he told them he didn't take a lunch and he cd to me and told me he was going on lunch he came back 1 hour and 15 minutes later I don't mind paying for service I get and both my tanks leak and he spilt some kind of black glue on my floor and it will not come up I do not recommend this company to anyone
