My elderly Mother and I each have homes in la Quinta and learned the hard way about the many ""opportunists"" in the heating and air field who under deliver and over charge (often times for repairs that are un warranted). A friend referred us to Jim at Desert Mist Mechanical a few years ago and we now feel as though we have a friend in the business who not only has the highest level of integrity, prompt service, but is also competitively priced.

This is a prime example of how bigger is not always better. Desert Mist is simply the best.

When this company states that they send technicians, not salesmen, they aren't kidding. I have never been more pleased and impressed with a plumber than I am with Desert Mist Mechanical. We had 3 leaky faucets. Called Desert Mist one late afternoon and Jim was scheduled to come out the next day. I had thought that the only fix was to replace the faucets, but Jim fixed them for much less and made sure they COMPLETELY fixed! He was honest and fixed them right. Sure, he could've told us we needed to replace and charged us much more to replace them, but instead he said to call Delta since they have a lifetime warranty on all their faucets, get the parts sent to us for free and he would fix them. Which he did. We are very happy customers! If we ever need anything fixed again that they work on, they will be the first company I call!

AC went out and I had a feeling that it was a fuse but I wasn't in town and my partner is not mechanical at all. Called Desert Mist and they came out and, sure enough, it was the fuse. Jim replaced one fuse and the bill was for $135.00 ( $40.00 service charge and $95.00 for the fuse/install )!!!! I know that you can buy a 30amp fuse any day of the week at Lowe's for $5-10.00.
I called and was told that yes the fuse was only a $4.50 part but it costs him $100.00 to come out! Then why the hell don't you just call it a $125.00 service charge??? He made some lame excuse as to why they do it this way ( which made no sense ).
BEWARE OF DESERT MIST!!!!!!!!

I called Desert Mist because of their great reviews - and I wasn't mislead. Jim came out with a tech in training. Both were polite and figured out exactly what missing part I needed to get my air up and running. But as part of a much needed, good human interest story, I have to tell everyone that Jim helped with a lot more than just the fix on my unit. I was telling him the story about our original installer who had suffered a heart attack in the middle of my job and unable to return.. The installer was also working on a next door neighbors unit. When the original installer got out of the hospital he insisted on being driven to our next door neighbors condo because 'he just wanted to finish up.' Unfortunately he had some trouble remembering exactly what state he left the AC in. In a roundabout way we contacted Jim who came right over and helped out. Now, that kind of pay it forward act is worth six stars.

Air Con went out last night, called Jim at 6:30am next day, he was at my door before 8:30am and done by 9am. Very pleased with his service and availability.

called Jim and was able to get a superfast quote without hesitation or sales pitch - called at 4:55 pm Christmas eve and he answered right away and gave me a good price for water heater replacement - had called 2 other places prior - one place wanted to make an appointment just for a quote - this wasn't an emergency but the water heater was 14 years old at least and making funny sounds - time to start anew.... another place I called quoted over 100 more.

service was fast and very professional - came on time - actually even a bit early.
all questions answered. would call again for other issues if needed.
do highly recommend - and glad I checked YELP ahead of time!

Jim is our Hero! Our Air stopped working 4th of July weekend and it was sweltering!

He came out within an hour, walked us through our options and then took care of the problem. He even came back to check on our unit a few hours later.

7:00 a.m. and my house is 87 degrees. A/C is not working and panic sets in because it's supposed to be 110. I called Desert Mist Mechanical and they have a technician here before 8:00. The technician tested everything - capacitor, plug, outlet, wires, things I don't know the name of, etc - but it wasn't clear what it was. The owner Jim came about 20 minutes later and determined it was the compressor that has frozen (seized) and that was what was causing the breaker switch to trip. Jim gave me two options 1) replace the entire unit or 2) replace the compressor on a 15 year old unit. I called him about noon and asked him to come to replace the entire A/C unit.

Jim and Dave arrived at 8:30 the next morning with a new 5 ton A/C unit and had it installed, checked the furnace in the attic, and were done by 1:00.

I hate making a ""rash"" decision when so much money is at stake - knowing there wasn't time to price compare and having my mom sweltering in the heat - but I felt comfortable that Jim wasn't trying to sell me something I didn't need (just as RP K said). Their work was fast and reliable and I'm pleased with their service. I've asked them to come out for a plumbing repair so I'll keep you posted!

110 degree day in July...A/C goes out at 5PM. Never dealt with this company but took the other recommendation and called Jim. He said he'd come out Sunday at 7AM and was here right on time. A very knowledgeable and personable guy, Jim changed out the compressor fan and capacitor, checked for coolant level and gave the system a good overall check. This gentleman is not out to sell you anything you don't need and puts the customer first. I checked prices all over the internet and Jim is extremely fair priced. I feel that he's 100% honesty and integrity. No need to ever be nervous if ever I need an A/C technician. I can count on Jim at Desert Mist.
