Be aware of Delong Plumbing for the extremely dishonesty behavior!
Hired them to do the back-flow test required by the City, agreed price was $60. The first test failed due to one broken rubber gasket. Mr DeLong asked to charge for $80 extra to get the rubber gasket replaced and re-test.
Mr Delong threatened that we could choose to replace the parts by our self and he would leave immediately, and if we need him to come back for the re-test, we would pay him $60 again for the 2nd visit. Or we could choose to pay him $80 extra to get the job done, to make everyone easier... We were kind of in one blackmailed situation that we had to agree very reluctantly. So in the end, we paid him $140 in total to get one back-flow test done.
Most other plumbers, in the same situation, would offer free of charge for the replacement of the rubber or charge with less than $20 for it.
According to Mr Delong, the $80 extra charge included $30 for the extra labor (it took him 1 mins to replace the part) , $25 for the parts(2 rubber gaskets will cost a few bucks at most) and $25 for the re-test (if the device had to run twice for the same job, it should be charged twice, really???).
So, Be aware of Delong Plumbing for the extremely dishonesty behavior! And good luck with your next job with Delong Plumbing.
Kimberly P.Absolutely love Delong plumbing! Fixes in minutes! I recommend this plumbing service hands down! Nobody could fix my leak, except DeLong. They are hands down awesome! I have Haans Grohe panel showers, and 2 other plumbers tried to fix my leak, and ONLY Delong got it done. A part did need to be ordered, that was the ticket! Thank you DeLong plumbing!
Needed a hot water heater - called, got a quote, they were here within an hour. Quoted me a price $200 less than another ""big name"" local plumbing company in Lake Orion, and about $600 less than Home Depot's installation service (which is based out of state). Father quoted me on the phone, son came and did the work and was fast, pleasant and polite. Would totally use them again.
DeLong Plumbing (Oxford, MI) did our back flow testing a few weeks ago and Roger DeLong (the OWNER) was extremely RUDE, HOSTILE and MENACING toward my husband. I left the check and the form on our door the night before, as instructed. Coincidentally, my husband was about to run an errand that morning and the guy's car was in our driveway, with the door open, but no one around. My husband texted to ask if we were expecting anyone, and I said it's probably the guy to do the back flow testing. My husband was curious about what the testing involved and walked around the house to say hi, and for whatever reason, he mentioned, in a friendly tone, ""I didn't realize you were coming today."" Apparently DeLong took this the wrong way and said, ""Well, someone knew, because the form was on the door. Who's running the show, anyway?"" Seriously, he said, ""Who's running the show, anyway?"" which sounds very chauvinistic to me, but even that didn't upset my easy-going husband.
DeLong then told him he had replaced a part (a valve that broke while he was doing the test) and it would be an additional $15. My husband said ok, brought the old part inside to me, told me it was an extra $15, and I immediately stopped what I was doing to go upstairs and write another check. At this point my husband had no idea there was any tension with the guy. He had shrugged off the ""Who's running the show?"" comment as a chauvinistic joke rather than hostility. While I was writing the check upstairs, my husband walked back outside to get something, saw the guy standing at our garage door, and before my husband could open his mouth to say I was getting the check, DeLong demanded to know where his money was, saying he had other jobs to do and threatening to disconnect the part if we didn't pay him!!! More than just rude, he was downright menacing. My husband actually took a couple steps backwards to maintain some personal space, and DeLong was blocking my husband's exit from the garage while yelling about the check and threatening to remove the valve. Thankfully my husband chose to just say ""my wife's getting the check"" and turned around and come back inside before things could escalate, but even when I came out with the check a minute or two later (after being filled in on the altercation), Roger DeLong was pacing back and forth behind his truck, gesticulating wildly and yelling to his young companion in a loud rant.
Anyone who knows my husband knows he's very friendly, laid back, and not easily irritated. So I'm dumbfounded as to how this guy took his comment the wrong way to begin with. But even if the guy misunderstood my husband's intentions, it still never should have or needed to escalate to the point of threatening to disconnect us because he had to wait 2 or 3 minutes for me to go upstairs and write another check.
I posted a review in our neighborhood forum and at least FOUR other people replied with their own stories of rude encounters with him. If he got this hostile with someone who didn't have a problem with him, I can't imagine what would happen if someone had an actual customer service issue. His behavior was what you might expect from someone with a red hot temper who had just been told, ""F*#% you, we're not paying for the extra part."" It makes no sense, because neither of us even questioned the need for the new part or the need for us to pay for it.
Bottom line: This guy has some serious issues and has shown a pattern of unprofessional behavior based on feedback from neighbors who have used him. He seems unstable and I strongly urge you to consider a different plumber.
I do not recommend. Will never use again. They do not care about customers, only money. The have no honor.
