In Empire, CA, circa 1946, James Arland DeHart began a plumbing and sheet metal business in his family garage. For more than 71 years, DeHart Plumbing, Heating, and Air has flourished, built on a legacy of excellence, community pride, and a focus on customer satisfaction.

Today, DeHart Inc. remains a family-owned and operated business through four generations and counting! As the third-generation President and CEO of DeHart Plumbing, Heating, and Air Inc., I carry on the legacy started by my grandfather, James Arland DeHart, in 1946. In 1983, I started as a plumbing technician while also attending HVAC-R trade school at night.

Ended up signing up with their program because I was having some insulation blown into the attic anyhow. Very impressed with the gentleman that came out to the house very professional. When the technician came out to do the service on the air conditioning unit, was also very professional. So as he's doing the service he finds that my air conditioning has been incorrectly wired. Now my air conditioner works better than it did.

What impressed me the most about this company and the technician. Is the fact that I've had my air conditioner serviced in the past by two different companies, and nobody ever took the time to overlook the wiring. This guy caught an issue overlooked by others. For this reason, 5 stars for customer service and professionalism! This is my new go to company. Highly recommended

I called last night because my ac was low on Freon and the air wasn't as cold as usual. I was explained the after hours call would be $248 and I agreed. The technician diagnosed a small leak but agreed to recharge the system with Freon. He was at my home for literally 30-45 minutes. The charge was $2148. When I wrote the check I asked for a receipt and was told they computer the guy was using was having trouble. But they would email me a copy of the work order or receipt later. Today I still don't have the receipt. I called and asked the technician why it was so high and he said the Freon cost me $160.00 per lb!!! And he also said I would receive a receipt today . Still no receipt but my checking account is down $2148.00 JUST to recharge the system??!! Very excessive as far as I am concerned. I am a General Contractor and now wish I never would have called them. Be wary of companies that come out for an hours work and charge the customer 2 grand!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL! No receipt for the work a day later. Just tried to sell me a $14,000 system

I am giving them 5 stars and I didn't even hire them. They have the best customer service. My 81 year old mom's AC went out, they came the same day I called. EVERYTHING about this place was professional, compassionate and kind. I hear the technician, Mike, was EXCELLENT. I don't live in the same city, but I was so happy my mom encountered this company. Hired twice, disappointed twice, had someone else finish the job twice.

We bought a small, older home 4 years ago.

The air conditioner went out on in the summer, 104 degrees outside. DeHart told us we needed a new unit, cost 15K. I decided to get a second opinion, the second opinion fixed our air conditioner for under $600.00, and it still works great to this day. It runs all day right now because I have no attic insulation at the moment. Which leads to my next story .

The 2nd time we used them was few months ago.

We paid $1,500.00 to have the attic cleaned and prepped for new insulation. Please refer to pictures for DeHart's finished product.

What was left in the attic was Rat poison, old shingles, Rodent body, rusty nails, dirty insulation, Rodent poop, etc...

I have called and emailed Dehart/Greenhart but have not had my calls returned. I had someone else finish cleaning the attic. I expected better quality. I do not want to invest into new insulation just to have it laid onto filth.
I will be hiring someone else to reinstall insulation and clean my ducts. I also won't be calling them in the future when I DO need a new air conditioning unit and tank-less water heater.

Owner mentioned in their response below they would contact me to discuss, I never heard from them.

Day 1 Our heater tripped out on us in the middle of the night, we called DeHart who on day 2 sent a tech that was quite the salesman. Following his inspection he stated our heat exchange was cracked (unit is 13 yrs old) our ducts were crushed in multiple areas; it was a ""horror story"" in the attic. He provided a quote for almost $22,000 that would replace our entire Heating & A/C, complete duct replacement and not to mention our water heater as well. He stepped away to speak to his boss about lowering the price and came back with a new quote of $20,000. Asked him for pictures of damage and he said he didn't have any. Charged us $89 for the service visit and left. Received a call later from DeHart that would drop the price from $22,000 to $15,000. Day 3, 2nd opinion with a different company said the unit and the system are all in great shape, it was simply a matter of the battery in our thermostat had died and need to be replaced. We also called PG&E, following the suggestion of the 2nd tech, in case there was something he had missed, to check for carbon monoxide because if there was a cracked exchange legally the tech is required to contact PG&E to shut off the gas and the tech never did. PG&E confirmed there was no crack and the system was in great shape. Called DeHart to inform them of what their tech did, they said a manager would call back. We have yet tot receive a call. I write this as 3 strangers had to come into my house during this covid 19 pandemic because of a battery My family has heart condition and respiratory issues. Lying to try to make a sale is not a way to conduct business. I hope not all of DeHarts techs are dishonest.

Walk in went out. They came after hours and needed a hard start. From what I was told is this is a common oroblem, yet he didn't have part on truck. So he said they would call me in morn. They never did. I paid him $359.00. Called some body else they had it running in less than 10 mins and only charge me half of what de hart charged. Totally dissatisfied.. and satisfaction is not guaranteed!!!!

I had dehart install a water heater. The technician was very friendly and explained everything that he was doing. Next week the city inspector came out and said that the water heater needed some modifications. This is were the problems started. Week one I waited from 8am to 9am my scheduled appointment and nobody called or came I,
called and rescheduled for the next week at the same time. Week two same thing no call no show again I called and rescheduled. Week three same thing no call no show. To add icing on the cake I, get a call wanting to make an appointment with an inspector. One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. I called dehart and the lady said that the parts weren't in and I, rescheduled my appointment again for the fourth time. I, told her to at least have the courtesy to call me ahead of time if the parts aren't in the lady said that somebody called at 0850 but no one did as I was sitting by my phone. Oscar was great but I, feel sorry that he works for such a haphazard business. After this escapade I, will look for some else.

Just finished reading a review about poor service with their comfort plan . Could not agree more . Last we heard from Dehart was back in May 2019 and now 7 months later no phone call or follow up of any kind. We have no interest with calling them especially since last time , they couldn't answer a question and even the owner never got back to us. Also when they came out, back in May of last year, they did not provide a filter anymore on their annual service as we were promised when we originally signed up. We have used Dehart for over 4 years.They have done plumbing work for us as well. But the quality of their work we also agree is not as good as it used to be.

Technician was very knowledgeable, but there is never a follow through with the service. Been using DeHart for the last 3 years and their service has been going down hill. I've recommended them to my family and they too are having the same issues with service. We are on their plan, but they don't call to schedule for the maintenance. Family have had issues with Technicians not doing their jobs and price of service is usually very pricey. I don't recommend them to anyone anymore. Ready to go with someone else since I have no heat and the temps are in the 30's at night. Good luck!
