Daystar Plumbing
Company Overview
I provide placement, maintenance, and fixing of heating units, fixtures, toilets, water filters, gas seismic safety valves, instantaneous water heaters, and furthermore conduct drain cleaning, spa tub maintenance, sewer repair, gas system setup, and water piping repair and setup. My aim to provide a uniformly excellent quality of assistance, based on careful analysis of problems and clear communication, along with meticulous implementation of the necessary tasks.
I earned my certification at the advice of my first mentor, the owner of Bright Plumbing in SF, for whom I was employed for more than a decade. I then worked for eight years with the founder of Lipsey/Mill Valley Plumbing, while catering to a expanding Daystar clientele as well.
The closing of the company in the early 2000s inspired me to operate Daystar Plumbing as my main venture, maintaining service in the Marin area, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties as I had with the previous company, and to continue warranty work with Kohler Company, Bosch/AquaStar, and various brands.
I am thankful to Bright and Mike for the essential knowledge and insight I learned from their guidance.
I deployed my completely outfitted Daystar vehicle to support Mike's clients, quickly switching business signs for the two companies as needed.
I keep a good relationship with both of them, and ex-colleagues of the businesses.
I began doing plumbing for a community member, the owner of Bright Plumbing, in the early 1980s after coming back to SF from my teaching stint in the Far East for 2 1/2 years.
I care about the environment, and have made numerous visits with a team to lobby government officials, the White House and the World Bank regarding environmental protection and the natural world at my own expense.
I am actively engaged in environmental advocacy, working against poorly planned developments, and am currently participating in community sustainability initiatives, Pacifica Climate Committee, & the city council-appointed ""Task Force for Climate Action"".
I regularly read ""Scientific American magazine"", ""Scientific American Mind"", ""the publication Science News"", and ""Parabola"" in their entirety each issue.

Nice man, he called me back and talked to me about my sink problem. He gave me some wise words of caution and tips. Luckily I was able to resolve the issue myself so he didn't have to come out. I very much appreciated his help. If in the future I need a plumber, I will be calling him again.
Thanks Timothy!

Timothy is a great plumber. He is slow, methodical and talkative. I used him on several occasions for emergencies and was quite satisfied with his work. I would caution you to google on the spot the price of anything he tries to sell you while he is there. He charges a list price. I recently tried to engage with him to do a larger project for me and found him to be quite difficult to work with and even non responsive.

Timothy is extremely conscientous and helpful. Our hot water heater died on us a week after installation, on Dec 31st when most businesses were shutting down early. Timothy came to our rescue, drove into San Francisco to pick up a part, and did the repair so we wouldn't have to start the New Year with cold showers. He's extremely courteous, explains in detail everything is going on, and a pleasure to deal with.

Timothy was really, really great.
I was having issues with my water heater, and I called him up on a sunday evening. He was having 10 people over for dinner, BUT he still took time to explain to me what my potential issues were AND how to ensure we didn't have any problems until he could come in the next morning.
We came and diagnosed the issue fairly quickly. He told me that there was a chance that the water company might fix it, although they usually don't. BUT, I should call them up and then call him only if I needed him.
I called the water company and they agreed to fix it, so I wouldn't need Timothys services (this time). BUT, he took the time to explain the issue, as well as a few other odds and ends type questions that I had. AND, I mentioned something in passing and he showed up later in the day with a fix for that (AND, it wasn't even related to my plumbing).
I can honestly say, I have never had another plumber that has the honesty and integrity that Timothy showed. I would be happy to recommend him to anybody and use him for future services.

It isn't often that you meet someone like Timothy who is honest, trustworthy and really knows what he is doing. We have used a couple plumbers since we moved into our new home, and I came across Daystar Plumbing by random chance. I always felt uncomfortable with the other plumbers that did a couple jobs for us as they always seemed to try and force additional repairs on top of what I had hired them to do to make some more cash off of me.
Timothy has always been up front about his fees, he has never taken advantage of us by purposely extending the amount of time it takes to complete a job, and he actually educates me while he's working so I can do some of the work on my own the next time I have an issue! I have never had a contractor do that! His work has always been reliable as well and the 3 jobs we have had him do for us were of top quality and we have not had any issues since he completed the repairs for us. He has also been accommodating as well and always finds time for us within a few days to make the repairs we need (in fact, he came within a half hour after I called him during a week night at 7:30 when we lost all hot water to our house).
I would highly recommend Timothy. He's very procedural with his work, always professional, a pleasure to talk to, good at what he does and seems that he would never give us the run around (meaning he does exactly what he says he will and can do).

If you want a plumber with intelligence, integrity, and experience, call Timothy. He is thorough and arrives prepared and on time. The first time we called him, he was able to be there the same day, even though it was dinner hour. Of course, we used Timothy for the second plumbing issue and he was, again, excellent and reliable. Even if I found out that another company charged less, I would still stick with Timothy. You can't afford to mess around with plumbing. He'll do it right the first time, explain every single thing he is doing, advise you on a variety of solutions, and treat you with respect.

My husband and I needed new toilets and our old sink was on the blink. Timothy Cowan is in my BNI networking group, so I wanted to try him out. He was thorough, efficient, reasonably priced, a gentleman, on time, and within the budget he quoted. He installed two new toilets and fixed our sink in one day! I would recommend him very highly to anyone who wants quick and dependable service ... and a warm and caring person!

My biggest fears of owning a home was that repair bills were going to be made by me instead of my landlord. Two months into home ownership I already had my redwood gate blown down by high winds, body damage to my car from falling limbs of the tree in my front yard, and fence repair due to the recent storms. So when I noticed the water getting colder and colder while showering one morning, I knew something had to be up with my water heater. ""Great!"" I said to myself. ""Here's another $700 repair."" I felt like I was just kicked in the stomach.
I didn't know much about water heaters, but looked at the date of the installation and read it was installed back in 1999. I figured it was probably time to replace it. I began looking around online looking online at Lowes and Home Depot for a good deal. But it was a Saturday and I had to work, so I didn't have time to shop for this thing. I started looking for plumbers on Yelp and called a few in the area. I got no answer. Then I came across Timothy's listing. He answered his phone right away. I described the problem to him and was very empathetic. He wasn't able to come to the house right away, but he asked specific questions about the water heater and from the information I gave him he seemed to diagnose the problem. Turned out I had a bad thermocouple. He described the repair I would have to do so took his advice. Double checking how the repair would be done on online, replacing the thermocouple seemed pretty easy and it was.
So I go from spending $700 to replace my water heater to spending $8 for the broken part and taking 15 minutes install it. I don't think many plumbers would take the time to give anyone free advice. Timothy is a rare, honest businessman. You can be sure if I have any plumbing issues in the future he will be the first one I call.
Highly recommended.

I had a really bad experience with this plumber. He is really touchy if you don't commit right away to a job, and he is even a bit of a bully. I would never use him again, ever!

Timothy is a great individual. He is very smart and is actively involved in the PHCC- plumbing heating cooling contractors association.
I know he is able to provide extraordinary customer care and quality workmanship. I would recommend him to anyone that is in search of a quality plumbing contractor.
