Daystar Plumbing
Company Overview
I handle setup, service, and repair of water heaters, faucets, lavatories, purifiers, seismic gas valves, on-demand water heaters, and also carry out drain cleaning, whirlpool tub service, drain repair, gas piping, and water line fixing and setup. My aim to deliver a consistently excellent quality of support, rooted in detailed evaluation of concerns and open dialogue, along with careful execution of the needed services.
I secured my certification at the suggestion of my first mentor, the founder of Bright Plumbing in SF, for whom I served 11 years. Afterward was employed for 8 years with the founder of Lipsey/Mill Valley Plumbing, while supporting a expanding client base as well.
The closing of the company in 2000 inspired me to operate Daystar Plumbing as my primary focus, maintaining service in the Marin area, SF, and San Mateo Counties as I had with Lipsey/Mill Valley Plumbing, and to maintain service agreements with Kohler Company, Bosch, and various brands.
I am grateful to Bright and Mike for the essential knowledge and wisdom I learned from their mentorship.
I utilized my fully-stocked Daystar van to support the clients of Mike, quickly swapping branding signs for the two brands as needed.
I keep very friendly terms with both of them, and former fellow employees of the now-closed businesses.
I began doing plumbing for a neighbor, my neighbor, in 1982 after returning to SF from my teaching stint in Japan for two and a half years.
I have a strong commitment about environmental issues, and have made multiple journeys with a coalition to advocate government officials, the administration and international organizations regarding forest conservation and the natural world at my own expense.
I have been actively involved in environment-oriented issues, actively opposing egregiously bad development, and am currently involved in local sustainability efforts, the climate committee in Pacifica, & the city council designated ""Climate Action Plan Task Force"".
I read ""Scientific American magazine"", ""Scientific American Mind"", ""Science News magazine"", and ""Parabola magazine"" in their entirety each issue.

I wish all service people were this conscientious. Timothy returns calls promptly, shows up when he says he will and does complete, professional, thorough work.
He recently replaced an old toilet for us, and when the new one didn't seem to be working absolutely perfectly he scheduled a second appointment to come back on his own dime to fix it. Eventually he tracked the problem to a manufacturing flaw and replaced the new toilet. He's the Sherlock Holmes of indoor plumbing, and he didn't charge us a penny beyond the original fee.
He's my go-to plumber from now on.

Timothy is an awesome guy!
I was having problems with my hot water heater that another plumber came to look at. They attempted to fix it but left it in the same state as when they came.
I emailed Timothy after hours. At about 10pm he emailed back suggesting course of action with the manufacturer and to contact him after.
On the phone, by text or in email you are not going to get a friendlier guy with a wealth of knowledge.
You, sir, are in my book as ""The Plumber"" now. Thank you Timothy.

Timothy is a fantastic plumber. I got myself into a mess after attempting to ""replace this valve real quick"", and was forced to call in the reinforcements on a Sunday night.
1 hour later Timothy arrived and made quick work of the job. He also pointed out a few plumbing oddities in my kitchen plumbing that I will surely use his services to resolve at some point.

No one....NO ONE...has ever called a plumber in a good mood. Because of this, I'm not surprised to find that most plumbers are a bit standoffish - they tend to only hear bad things from their customers.
So it began when I found I'd had a toilet slowly leaking for around 15 years...one day, it hit the breaking point, and I found a first floor ceiling starting to sag.
After hitting up yelp, I called Daystar Plumbing...and was more than a bit surprised to not only get a living person on the phone, but the owner himself - Timothy. He was on a job, but took the time to listen to my tale of woe, and rearranged his schedule so that he could be here when my water mitigation guy was here.
He showed up on time (and here I'd always assumed that was against the Plumbers Creed), was incredibly polite, looked at the problems, and proposed a solution (fix the leaking toilet...doh!).
He got on it....took the toilet off the floor, showed me the problem (yes, chalk another winner up to Kenmark Construction - home of the worst...truly the worst...contractors that walk the planet), and proposed a rather interesting solution....that worked.
I found Timothy to be just a great guy - and from what I can tell, a great plumber. Can't recommend him enough for coasties. He's the best.

Nice man, he called me back and talked to me about my sink problem. He gave me some wise words of caution and tips. Luckily I was able to resolve the issue myself so he didn't have to come out. I very much appreciated his help. If in the future I need a plumber, I will be calling him again.
Thanks Timothy!

Timothy is a great plumber. He is slow, methodical and talkative. I used him on several occasions for emergencies and was quite satisfied with his work. I would caution you to google on the spot the price of anything he tries to sell you while he is there. He charges a list price. I recently tried to engage with him to do a larger project for me and found him to be quite difficult to work with and even non responsive.

Timothy is extremely conscientous and helpful. Our hot water heater died on us a week after installation, on Dec 31st when most businesses were shutting down early. Timothy came to our rescue, drove into San Francisco to pick up a part, and did the repair so we wouldn't have to start the New Year with cold showers. He's extremely courteous, explains in detail everything is going on, and a pleasure to deal with.

Timothy was really, really great.
I was having issues with my water heater, and I called him up on a sunday evening. He was having 10 people over for dinner, BUT he still took time to explain to me what my potential issues were AND how to ensure we didn't have any problems until he could come in the next morning.
We came and diagnosed the issue fairly quickly. He told me that there was a chance that the water company might fix it, although they usually don't. BUT, I should call them up and then call him only if I needed him.
I called the water company and they agreed to fix it, so I wouldn't need Timothys services (this time). BUT, he took the time to explain the issue, as well as a few other odds and ends type questions that I had. AND, I mentioned something in passing and he showed up later in the day with a fix for that (AND, it wasn't even related to my plumbing).
I can honestly say, I have never had another plumber that has the honesty and integrity that Timothy showed. I would be happy to recommend him to anybody and use him for future services.

It isn't often that you meet someone like Timothy who is honest, trustworthy and really knows what he is doing. We have used a couple plumbers since we moved into our new home, and I came across Daystar Plumbing by random chance. I always felt uncomfortable with the other plumbers that did a couple jobs for us as they always seemed to try and force additional repairs on top of what I had hired them to do to make some more cash off of me.
Timothy has always been up front about his fees, he has never taken advantage of us by purposely extending the amount of time it takes to complete a job, and he actually educates me while he's working so I can do some of the work on my own the next time I have an issue! I have never had a contractor do that! His work has always been reliable as well and the 3 jobs we have had him do for us were of top quality and we have not had any issues since he completed the repairs for us. He has also been accommodating as well and always finds time for us within a few days to make the repairs we need (in fact, he came within a half hour after I called him during a week night at 7:30 when we lost all hot water to our house).
I would highly recommend Timothy. He's very procedural with his work, always professional, a pleasure to talk to, good at what he does and seems that he would never give us the run around (meaning he does exactly what he says he will and can do).

If you want a plumber with intelligence, integrity, and experience, call Timothy. He is thorough and arrives prepared and on time. The first time we called him, he was able to be there the same day, even though it was dinner hour. Of course, we used Timothy for the second plumbing issue and he was, again, excellent and reliable. Even if I found out that another company charged less, I would still stick with Timothy. You can't afford to mess around with plumbing. He'll do it right the first time, explain every single thing he is doing, advise you on a variety of solutions, and treat you with respect.
