Nicole E.Called to have our AC looked at since it's been down since over 2 weeks ago. It's been a hotbox in our store since.
We were given a 2 hour window for the arrival. They were here within the first hour. Took a look and diagnosed it fast enough.
Charged us $200 charge for a visit and the diagnostics. It will cost us $2,500 or so for a new compressor and installation, that seems like a lot for a compressor. The unit is big, it's on the roof of the shopping plaza.
Would take over a week to get the new compressor. AC works but weakly, but nothing significant to make you feel cool at all. May be caused from lightning or nature, since the AC is on the roof of the building.
We received a call the Friday before the scheduled install after about 2 weeks. No parts still. Parts won't come in until middle of the following week or so.
They came to install the new compressor. What toasty weeks we have had while having to wait a 2-3 weeks for the compressor to come in.
The job took a full day and a couple of hours the next day. It cost a little less than $3k, not cheap. The AC is back to good at least. Only took a little over 2.5 weeks to get it fixed.
I am in the market for a Mitsubishi Mini Split system & saw Dan Wood is a Diamond Contractor. Last week I called & the person who answered didn't know what a mini split is & after I explained she told me they sell & service Carrier products. I asked to speak to someone before setting up an appt to confirm a few things. Person on the phone was insistent I provide my address before I could talk to someone. She transferred me to a manager who took my message. A scheduler or estimator (he didn't identify himself) called back today & again was insistent I provide my address before they would even talk to me. WTH?!?! I don't want to be added to anyone's mailing address, etc. before I get an opportunity to determine if I want to move forward with even having anyone show up at my house. The guy was a JERK & hung up on me since I wouldn't provide my address. REALLY? I'd previously heard not so great stuff about Dan Wood & apparently it must be true. If you want to deal with Prima Donna aka Arrogant contractors then contact Dan Wood.
Very pleased with the work done on my gas furnace by Dan Wood technician: professional, clean, thorough. I recently moved to Michigan from a warm climate and although I am an electrical engineer, I knew nothing of gas furnaces. He explained the working of the furnace and gave me tips on how to take care of it. I've signed up with Dan Wood to annually maintain all my equipment.
We called the after hours number and left a message for emergency plumbing issue, and never received a callback.
Do not trust this company to help you in an emergency.
We were without heat and worried the weather would quickly change, as it often does in April. I chose Dan Wood because of the number of positive reviews posted by others online and the length of time they have been serving the local community.
Pros: Someone came out right away and I was told they could start the work the next day (April 8) and be finished in three days. Two guys worked on the project. They arrived each weekday between 8 and 9 and finished up between 5 and 6. It was not made clear to me at the time of the estimate that the three days would not include the weekend, but I understood. They were friendly and pleasant and cleaned the house up well each day after finishing. I felt safe with them in my home.
Cons: The project was finished on April 14, much later than expected. We had asked them to be careful with cutting the drywall to aid us in fixing it. Unfortunately, it looked terrible.
There was one place that needed an exposed pipe. They told me they could put it in two places about four inches from one another. One place was more difficult for them, but would be easier to hide. I asked them to put it in the higher, more difficult place and they agreed. When the project was finished the pipe was in the lower place and is going to take much more work on our part to hide.
We had TWO gas leaks following the project being finished. Dan Wood sent someone out to fix the first one. The second was at one of the new connections they put on an appliance. We were able to tighten it on our own. We had Consumer's come out to test for leaks, since Dan Wood's test apparently missed two leaks. Luckily, Consumer's found no more leaks.
We were told that the project required a permit that cost $250 when we booked the job. After it was complete, we were told it hadn't needed a permit, so they did not pull one after all. We were offered a permit after the fact or a refund of the permit fee. We chose the refund, but were only refunded $80, not the $250.
Upon completion of the job, I was given a receipt that stated they would return to touch up the paint on the pipes outside the house when it was a warmer day. Three weeks later no one had returned. I called and left a message. I requested a call back with when I could expect the job to be finished up and asked if they could remove the oil stains that were left in my driveway from when they cut the pipe.
It has now been five weeks since they charged my credit card for a complete , yet no one has returned to touch up the paint or remove the oil stains, and my phone call was also not returned.
I expected more from a company with such a strong reputation and am sadly disappointed. I would not recommend them for anything other than a small and quick job.
If there was zero stars that's what this company deserves- they installed my hot water heater and failed city inspection- likely due to them trying to get the most money with the least work. Then the same hot water heater under warranty needed a part and they came and tried to bill me for a trip fee without telling me ahead of time. (10 mins for $80) The technician had to be told to wear his mask on his face and not around his chin. Then since I would not pay the ""trip fee"" the technician slammed my door as he was leaving! Called the manager and he told me he believes his technician over me - what???? I'M MORE THAN DISAPPOINTED IN THESE SITUATIONS - multiple poor customer service! Side note I told them not to come before 11am due to a work call and he came early anyway! They failed me and the city inspection- use them at your own risk!
They must be sub contractors when they send men from different towns for the same problem. One from Kalamazoo and one came from Grand Rapids.
On 7-4-20 I had a toilet overflow in my home. Our company uses Dan Wood for our heating, air conditioning, and plumbing. Dan Wood was contacted about the problem. Within minutes, Gregg from Dan Wood called with an estimated time of arrival. Gregg arrived at the time specified. Once inside, Gregg diagnosed and corrected the problem. His professionalism and knowledge diffused a tense situation. This is the first time that I had Dan Wood at my home, but it will not be the last. I highly recommend Dan Wood and especially Gregg.
We couldn't be happier with the work completed by Dan Wood Plumbing. With short notice they came out and did the following. Awesome job! We highly recommend this team of experts!! Here's how the job went...

Day 2 work done (5-8-2020)
Arrived onsite and laid down tarps. Removed the toilet in the upstairs hallway bathroom. Installed customer supplied toilet using new bolts, new supply line, and new wax ring. Tested toilet and found no leaks. Caulked toilet in with white caulk. Another Plumber came onsite and helped to remove the old shower valve and trim as well as the old waste and overflow. They installed new customer supplied shower/tub valve. Installed the shower/tub trim. Caulked it in with clear caulk. They also installed a new Gerber waste and overflow. I then installed the brushed nickel kit for the waste and overflow. Turned the water on to the shower and set the temp to 117. Ran lots of water and filled the tub up. Drain worked great and there were no leaks from our work. Double checked all work from yesterday, which was good. Took pictures and cleaned up.
Carl J.I asked Dan Wood to service my air conditioner since it was not blowing cold air. The technician came out took a look at my air conditioner and furnace and told me it could cost me $350 - $950 or more to fix. He took a look at my thermostat and wanted to replace it with a $300 unit and told me that would fix my problem.
I knew that was incorrect and then he wanted payment of $150 for the call. I had another heating and cooling company to come out and they fixed it with a thermostat for $250 total.
I am sure I will never use Dan Wood ever again.
