Hired Butch Sprinkle, the alleged owner, to look at the plumbing of an old house I had purchased in Lusk, Wyoming. He showed up on time and pointed out numerous problems, most that were pretty obvious (broken pipes, missing pipes, etc.). He said he charged $55 per hour and asked me to buy all the parts as he was a bit short, plus that would save me as he would not mark up the parts, the normal practice. We went to a local hardware store, bought the parts and he immediately went to work. The water was turned on and several new leaks appeared so I decided to have him replace all the deteriorating galvanized pipe with new Pex tubing and connectors. He received several calls from his wife and it sounded obvious that there was a problem. He apologized and told me he was late on a car payment. He asked me if I would mind paying $440 in advance for 8 hours work and he would then work up to 10 hours, about the time the entire job would take. At this point he had already put in about four and a half hours so this seemed good to me. He made up a new parts list and I purchased them for about $250. He was supposed to start a day later. He called that day and said he was tied up on another job, but would start Saturday. He called that day and said he needed to wait until Monday. He didn't show up on Monday so I called him, only to discover his number had been disconnected. After two weeks he has not contacted me, completed the work, nor returned the money.
Update: he has relocated to Edgemont, S. Dakota and has placed ads throughout this area. Beware.
