What does that even mean to forward my contact info via Yelp? You have my first name and last initial. My now-cancelled appt was June 15. Look it up. Do your customers have to do all the work for you??
Just had Cropp Metcalfe come by to put in a replacement garbage disposal that I had purchased. I asked about price before when calling for an appointment. None was provided. I had replaced this earlier garbage disposal myself, but because of its weight and my age, I didn't figure I could do it again. It is an easy and relatively quick job... took me about 30 minutes to put this one in. When the ""Five Star Plumber"" arrived, he looked at the disposal and gave me a price of $500+ for this job that would have taken no more than 30 minutes. That equates to $1000 an hour. I quickly let him go - paying his charge of $86.95 for the visit. Even if the job took an hour - once again a inexperienced first-time installer - me - did it in 30 minutes - $500 an hour is a mighty pricy cost. The plumber informed me that ""everything has gone up"" - but there was nothing for him to buy - we are only talking his time. If indeed plumbers get $500 to $1000 an hour now - I am telling my grandsons to forgo college and become plumbers! If anyone knows of someone who can do this simple job for a reasonable p[rice, let me know. I advise all who are less than millionaires to avoid Cropp Metcalfe. I'll ""settle"" for a three-star plumber at a reasonable price any day of the week.
There is no doubt CroppMetcalfe is expensive. But having said that, I had a complicated problem where there was a leak behind a kitchen cabinet. The leak was hidden, so the back of one of the cabinets had to be removed so the leak could be exposed. I had another company come out for an estimate, paid them their estimate fee, and never heard from them again. I e-mailed two other companies detailed notes on my problem asking if they could help me. Never heard from either. CroppMetcalfe sent out two different guys prior to giving me an estimate, and then a third very experienced plumber came out to do the job.
My problem wasn't an emergency so it took CM about 10 days to get to me. Billy, the plumber they sent, has 35 years of experience and it was clear from the get-go he knew what he was doing. He was also a nice guy. He had a helper with him who may or may not have really been necessary.
They had quoted me $2200 for the job not knowing exactly where the leak was and whether they could fix it, and how fast. I thought that was high. In the end, Billy found some creative solutions over a period of seven hours.
Even if you calculate an unlikely $200/hour for the two plumbers ($150/$50), and discount the fact that two weren't necessary, and then add in the two service charges for two initial visits which they didn't charge for (ostensibly), I would say $1500 would have been a fair price.
But Billy did good work, kept me involved and fixed the problem when no one else was interested.
So you be the judge.
I was shocked with the cost to replace one hose-bib where the access was open in the back (garage) and was only two feet away from the front. You could literally lean you head around the corner and see the other side of the hose-bib. They installed a Frost Free Hose Bib that cost less that $50 retail, took about 40 minutes (except for having to run get a bracket they didn't have on the truck) and charged me over $500. I had some other projects that I was hoping to get done but not by these guys. Think about the hourly rate....
The technician was good and the work excellent but not worth the price. I would suggest getting an estimate over the phone. The last plumber I dealt with was more of an hourly rate kid of guy. This outfit charges by the job so they know what it will be before they come out I suspect.
Terrible. Couldn't fix my thermostat without leaving a hole in the wall. Had to do it or I'd have no heat. Now have to reinstall myself. All that for $300. Thanks for nothing
Bottom line - they don't stand behind their products.
Two years and 1 month ago, I bought an HVAC unit which was a Goodman unit re-branded as TLC. This unit replaced my then 13 year-old, contractor-grade unit which was installed when the house was built. TLC was subsequently bought by CroppMetcalfe. Well, the ""local business"" service apparently wasn't part of the sale. TLC was great, but it seems that the small-town, friendly attitude company culture has been lost to corporate policy.
Last week, my (25 month-old) unit quit cooling. A tech came out, and diagnosed it as a leaky fill valve cap, (a ""part"") and charged over $300 to refill the Freon which was lost due to the failed ""part"". Apparently, the 10 year ""parts"" warranty doesn't cover the Freon lost due to a failed ""Part"". A week later, my unit quit cooling again. Another tech came out, diagnosed the problem as two copper lines (""parts"") rubbing together due to vibration of the compressor, resulting in wearing a hole in the smaller of the two. These lines are inside the outside unit, hidden behind the coils. So it's not like they got caught by the weed-eater or something. Nope, it was assembled at the factory with these lines touching. Estimate to repair - $1662.00. I was told by one of the managers that Goodman doesn't cover that ""part"" because it's copper tubing, and they expect the local company to stock that. (Seems to me that as soon as they slapped the TLC badge on the unit, it became a TLC warranty, not a Goodman warranty) But, he would be happy to apply the cost of the first ""repair"" to the new repair because it was mis-diagnosed. That's all well and good, but... Contacted another company - total repair, including Freon - $550.00 (Took about an hour, BTW). Called CroppMetcalf and asked for refund of first ""repair"", was told ""Nope, we will only credit it toward future repairs.""
I can assure them, there won't be any ""future repairs"", nor will I be replacing my second unit (original 15 year old contractor-grade also) through them. I'll also be disputing the charge with my credit card company for the faulty diagnosis/repair, since I didn't get what I paid for. I don't recommend this company at all.
