Hello:
I have tried numerous times to issue a complaint via the website but have been unsuccessful. Therefore I am herewith trying again. We are unhappy 35-year customers.
Complaint: We called your office on 11 August 2021 to request service for a suspected bad thermostat. Service rep Nelson checked and tested the thermostat and agreed that it was bad and needed replacement. He installed a basic AprilAire unit and charged us $318.95. He was in our home for a total of about 20 minutes. We thought that this was excessive so we checked and found that the unit could be purchased for about $42 and the national average for thermostat replacement is $175.
We never received a receipt which Nelson promised to send via E-mail. We feel that we were taken advantage of. We will no longer consider your company our ""go to"" place for HVAC matters. We think that it would be fair to refund $100.00 and send a receipt. You can call me at (301) 937-7376 to discuss.
Respectfully,
Miguel Cruz
I am a decades long CroppMetcalfe customer for heating and air conditioning and have been very satisfied. After contacting several pest control companies and getting a range of suggestions - some of which were downright ridiculous for process and price, I contacted CroppMetcalfe. It was a great experience. The technician reviewed what I had been doing to address the problem and did not try to sell me anything at the time. He concluded that I was on the right path and at this point nothing further would be done unless there was an increase in activity. So I keep doing what I'm doing and everything is fine. If my efforts fail and the population explodes I'll call CroppMetcalfe again. At t his point all is under control. I really appreciate the honest evaluation by CroppMetcalfe. I saved a whole lot of money!!!!!! Be careful out there.
I like that they make sure we answer a few questions before hand about COVID-19, I wish I could get the same technician all the time they have been servicing mine AC for 8 years and always a different one 16 by now in total.
I have used them for years. The aerviceman is very helpful, knowledgable, and nice! I will continue to use them for my pest control needs!
Totally ridiculous markups. Replaced a $12 Capacitor and charged me $205.
Then took a total of 8 minutes to replace my fan Motor which costs $189 retail and charged me $749. Neither I Nor any of my friends that I've told this story to will ever use them for A/C service....never!
CroppMetcalfe changed out a standard 1/2 horsepower garbage disposal. About half an hour's worth of work. You can buy a new disposal for about $100, maybe $150 if you really look hard for an expensive one. They charged $682. THIS IS EXCESSIVE. OVERPRICED. LOOK ELSEWHERE.
Do not use this company! I had an appointment scheduled for two weeks. I also got an email reaffirming my appointment today. They were supposed to come between 8-12. At 11:30 I called to see where they were. The account rep at the Montgomery Co number said my appointment was Wednesday! It was not. Then they told me they left me messages. They did not. Then I called the Fairfax number and was told I HAD to let them service my home--by Erica. I told her no I didn't HAVE to do that. This company obviously has no accountability. Just say a mistake was made. Do not make up stories. Never will call them again!
Durya D.Considering the cold weather hit us quicker than expected and our home on the verge of freezing, I was pleasantly surprised Cropp Metcalfe was available to service our furnace in less than 48 hours. My questions were answered and the technician explained his work. We will certainly consider further service in the near future. Thank you!
Geoff R.This company does a decent job. I've had two systems installed by them and service contracts with them for over 15 years. I've seen at least twenty different technicians and installers and salesmen from CroppMetcalfe over those 15 years. Most of their technicians are hard-working and know what they're doing. My biggest complaint is that 3 or 4 years ago the company stopped handing out yellow paper carbon copies of the technician's service report when the technician comes for the semi-annual routine service check-up. They now tell you everything is electronic now and that you'll be e-mailed the report, but in fact I only get an invoice. I haven't received the complete data in the past 3-4 years. The old yellow paper carbon copy of the service report was great, because it recorded the technician's measurements of all the important data, such as incoming and outbound temperatures (so you could see the delta in temperature for yourself) and the pressure measurements, etc. It also ensured that the technician actually took all of these measurements during the visit. Now, you have no idea and cannot review the report to see for yourself how your equipment is holding up. Sad to see a great company become less great.
James K.I have been a Cropp-Metcalfe customer since at least 1990. The company's service has dramatically declined in every way. Long hold times, missed scheduled appointments with zero notice of failure and no apologies. It took multiple repair visits before being told I needed a new central air unit to replace one Cropp-Metcalfe sold me only 13 years earlier. Installation delayed once for two weeks. Whole process -- repair and replacement -- took nearly two months. Then they erred in charging me, and instead of sending a bill for the difference, like any decent business, I got a call from someone with the voice of a child threatening legal action if I did not pay. Altogether, it is clear that what was once a good, reliable company has collapsed into the pits. I am stuck with them through the warranty period on the new AC. My advice: Don't use Cropp-Metcalfe.
