Joey Rogers relocated to Sharon, CT with his mother and brother at the age of 5. Following elementary school, he decided to attend Oliver Wolcott Tech in Torrington. In his first year, he entered the HVAC/P department after helping his stepfather solder pipes for a home project. Post-high school, he worked at two local firms, learning the trade and earning his licenses. At the age of 21 in 2004, he earned his P2 Journeyman's plumbing license. At 24, he secured his P1 Contractor plumbing license and shortly thereafter started Cornwall Plumbing & Heating, LLC. He received his S9 and STC1 licenses for heating, AC, and solar thermal heating installations in 2008. His enthusiasm is fueled by emerging technologies, equipment, and installation techniques that improve the comfort of CP&H's customers. My Mom's refrigerator wasn't making ice or dispensing water, and had a slow but steady water leak.
From the get-go, Kim at CP&H was great, sending someone out as soon as she could, explaining the service call fee, and that we'd get a text when he was on his way.
The technician suggested getting a new filter, which was definitely needed, but it didn't fix the issue, so I called again a few days later. Kim had a tech over within the hour.
Turned out it was owner Joey Rogers and he zeroed right in on the problem: the water line to the fridge had been turned off for some reason! Duh!! An ice-making, water-dispensing refrigerator needs a running supply of water!
(Now, to be totally fair, the first guy was still in training and not having yet had multiple on-the-job experiences, I could see how easy it would be to overlook the most obvious answer. It's like calling tech support with a computer problem: a newer guy might first look for a more complex solution. The seasoned pro simply asks: ""Is it plugged in?"")
As Joey made sure the water/ice dispenser was working properly, I went into interview mode, learning more about his company's history, their service area, the number of staff, etc. -- and I tell you, if I didn't love my job, was 30 years younger, and wanted a secure future -- I'd seriously look into the plumbing profession!
When he left (saying there was no further charge), I said: ""Well, welcome back to the old days!"" You know when your local plumbers, electricians and the like genuinely saw their work as more than just a job, taking the time and care needed to make you a loyal, longtime customer.
Kudos to all at CP&H!
Randy and Justin came out and got our heating and water system going. They are very personable and explained what was going on. Joey is a plumbing artist. The whole staff is amazing and I would recommend them to everyone
Tim J.We used them urgently in the past for repair of a toilet and unclogging of a kitchen sink and although the work was fine, it seemed overpriced. However just recently we had them look at a problem we were having with a partially clogged pipe in the basement. The told us it would require use of a commercial snake/auger which they had, but unfortunately had recently broken during the course of its regular use. They said, that to do the job, they would have to go rent a snake for the job and pass the entirely of the 275$ cost onto us. This despite the fact that they admitted they were going to repair/replace their own broken snake. In addition, the entire bill would be that plus several hundred dollars per hour of labor bringing the total to what I thought was an exorbitant amount. Finally, to cap it off, when I decided against that (after my questioning about the passing of the snake rental cost onto us), I was charged 150$ for them to have accessed the situation and then sit in their truck for nearly 30 minutes in discussion with presumably the boss, essentially wasting my time. It would seem to me that incurring equipment repair and replacement costs is part of the cost of doing business and that it not be directly subsidized by individual customers - the more appropriate thing would be to raise their overall rates slightly for everyone to help with their costs - as the market will bear. Sometimes, businesses just have to eat some costs themselves.
!Addendum! - I increased my review score since they subsequently refunded the visit fee. Apparently also, there was confusion between the plumber on site and the supervisors and the cost of the job was to be the same regardless of whether or not a rental snake was used. I have decided to get a second opinion though as to the overall cost.
Professional and prompt in solving a big job for us in replacing and upgrading our well tank and water filter equipment. Flexible, smart, experienced, courteous, and went the extra mile in customer relations. Plaudits for Randy and his assistant Mike. Nice to know there is a great neigborhood plumbing outfit we can call on when we upgrade bathrooms this coming year.
Lorenzo R.If I could give no stars to this company I would. I was in need of a company to remove my baseboard heating and install forced air into a new house I purchased before a new hardwood floor was going to be laid down. After two weeks of trying to reach Cornwall (due to them being closed first week in October for well over a week) I was able to schedule an appointment. Since wood floors need to acclimate before they are installed I had meticulously planned and timed installing accordingly. By the time Cornwall could come out, this would leave me with 2 weeks time to remove the baseboards and possibly even install the new heating system. The day of the appointment Joey showed up almost 2 hours later than scheduled. He apologized and said there was an emergency he had to take care of. In all truth I was happy that Joey showed up and was nice and not arrogant, knowledgeable and somewhat enthusiastic, with positive solutions. There was hope. We discussed a timeline and the importance of the wood floor being acclimated and the baseboard panels being removed before installation. He left stating he would have a proposal for me at the end of the week (giving him 4 days). That came and went and no proposal was to be had. I waited the weekend and then called Cornwall on Monday...since time was ticking. I spoke with Cheri, who is very pleasant and only the messenger. She told me Joey was working on the proposal but that he once again had an emergency job to take care. The next day, still no proposal or even a phone call. On Wednesday I called again and spoke to Cheri. She said Joey was going to call me back to give me a timeline at the very least. Guess what? Still no phone call or proposal. On Thursday I called Cheri back and she said Joey had yet another emergency and he would call me back. At the end of business there was still no phone call. At this point I had to give up and start all over. Having wasted SO MUCH time on this company with the hopes that something would come through, I was in slight panic mode since the wood installation was schedule and could not be changed without having to wait months for another date. By chance (and a shot in the dark) I made a phone call at 7:30pm and found a last minute HVAC company that was able to have someone out (the co-owner of the company) to my house the very next day. Not only did he make a plan to have the baseboard heating removed on that Monday, but they were able to install new Forced air as well as a new circuit board to regulate my hot water. This timed perfectly to the demolition of my old floor to prepare for the new floor. All of this was done in 72 hours. What Cornwall did to me was a disgrace and there is absolutely no excuse. In fact I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL...even to this day. I find this type of disappearing act appalling and I would not recommend this company to anyone. They missed out on a $11,000.00 job and a lifetime of regularly scheduled maintenance and service from a very loyal and quick paying customer. Shame on them. If this is how you do business in 2017 then good luck.
Cornwall Plumbing was called on a Sunday afternoon after a DIY project went, well, let's say not as planned. I left a message and within 30 minutes Joey called back and was at my house within 45. Joey (who I found out was the owner) was very nice, communicative, explained some options and worked clean (a good quality in a plumber). The job took about an hour and was charged a very reasonable price especially for a Sunday call. I highly recommend Cornwall Plumbing and now that my DIY impulse is behind me I will be using them for all my plumbing and heating needs!
