Just a PSA: I had the most disappointing customer service experience with Commercial Service. 2 years ago, I purchased a HVAC system from them, and last night the heat went out just as we were approaching dangerously low temperatures. I have children and pets, so I was not in a place where I could shop for services or wait, so I called them. Prior to speaking with the technician, I had already identified that the error code meant there was an issue with an open high limit switch, and the technician agreed with me over the phone. He informed me it would likely be a $276 after-hours service charge. I was between a rock and a hard place, so I agreed. Unfortunately, the technician did not arrive with a replacement part, so he had to temporarily fix the switch so that it would close. This took between 40 and 45 minutes. The charge was $414, and I assumed this would also include the follow up the next day when they actually did replace the switch. I was wrong. When I questioned the ethics of this with their VP, I was treated as though I just didn't understand that they provided services that no one else does, and that's why they are (significantly) more expensive. After the politely insulting lecture I received, he informed me that he would offer to enroll me in their maintenance program at no additional cost. That was his solution. This was their unacceptable compromise. As a 46 year old who has been a home owner for 2 decades, I have had extensive experience with other HVAC companies. I had a technician from Heflin who I worked with for years who came at all hours, and never charged me a 3rd of the price Commercial Service did. I'm disappointed that CS did not come to my house WITH the warrantied part they were aware was likely the problem, and that they wanted to charge me more than the already silly after-hours price. Do not recommend.

This company is the absolute best. We've gotten both our furnace and hot water systems replaced by them, as well as annual maintenance checks.

They are upfront about repairs vs. replacement options; we were able to squeeze another year of 'borrowed time' from our furnace before complete replacement for only ~$100. Scheduling is a breeze on-line, the technicians are ALWAYS reliable, and they are prompt/easy to get in touch with for any estimate questions or concerns.

Well the service was what it was expected to be. The AC works fine now and they time frame in which they delivered was good also. Only one day between call to appointment, so that was decent. My issue here is the pricing. With only having blown two capacitors, and coming away with a 307.00 bill, I find this pretty high. The two capacitors that were replaced in my unit only total to under $50.00. That's not even buying cheap parts made in China either. So to come away with a high bill for what took about an hours worth of time is pretty ridiculous. Commercial has serviced my Air for a couple years now and had been pretty reasonable prior to this. But after their ""We go by a pricing book for our repairs, not actual costs"", that is deterring me from them for any future repairs. Not every job is the same set up or design. To price everything off of the hardest to get to, or hardest to work on units is extremely poor practice. Base the work off the job at hand and nothing else.

This review is for both Commercial Service HVAC service AND their partner company, R & S Plumbing.

Two years ago, when we bought our home in Bloomington, the HVAC system needed to be upgraded. The estimate we received from Commercial Service was the most reasonable we received and they had the quality HVAC equipment we wanted. The installation was not easy (very tight space in our cellar) but they did a great job. We have them come back every year for seasonal maintenance and they are friendly and efficient.

Regarding R & S Plumbing, we had them install a sump pump in our cellar when we first moved in. Another difficult installation that they made look easy.

Yesterday I discovered a leak under the kitchen sink. It was 3:30PM but the dispatcher from R & S was able to get a plumber over to our house within 30 minutes. The plumber who arrived was awesome. He found the leak right away and not only repaired it, but showed me why it was leaking. He also tested his repair several times to ensure that all was well.

The charge for the plumbing repair was just over $100 which I thought was very reasonable. Highly recommend both Commercial Service and their partner company, R & S Plumbing.

Commercial Service installed a new air conditioning unit for us last spring. They were prompt, courteous and efficient. Communication was clear and site clean up was perfect. We are extremely happy with their work. We also use their seasonal maintenance service. I highly recommend Commercial Service.

To be clear - this review is not based on my experience with them directly.

A former renter of mine called on them to service the furnace for winter. They did the standard checkup. I realized later they left a sticker not just indicating they serviced it, but also installed it.

When I expressed my concern, they were very quick about getting back to me. So while I haven't had any personal interactions, their customer service seems good. I think it would be better to leave a notice that you simply serviced the unit, though. Don't imply you installed it when you didn't.

I first called Roto-Rooter, but they couldn't give me an appointment date after 2 separate phone calls in 5 days, so I decided to try Commercial Service. They arrived a half-hour before the appointment time, but they called first to make sure it was OK. Very friendly, efficient service. I had them take care of 4 separate plumbing issues (2 very minor, 2 more difficult), and they were done in about an hour. No complaints. Would recommend

One Hour H&AC put in our A/C compressor, but when the expansion valve failed and the coil iced up after only two years, they quoted $1519.00 to fix it, since we hadn't signed up for monthly payments to hold their various warranties / guarantees in place. So I called Commercial Service, and they replaced the valve for $380. Charley, the CS tech, was polite and efficient; the work was scheduled for just a few days after my call, and was done on time. Our A/C is running great, at a fourth the cost of the Indy-based Bryant outfit.

Friendly, fast. They were flexible with meeting up with me, and explained things well. Great customer service, which is often a lost art these days.

My AC had stopped blowing cold air, so I called Commercial Service based on the Google reviews. A technician arrived that day and diagnosed the issue quickly. He was able to diagnose the issue quickly because I had done much of the grunt work for him prior to arriving ( I took off the back plate on the compressor exposing the capacitor, I took the plate of the evaporator case so he could see inside).

The tech diagnosed the issue that the capacitor was bad, and he replaced it. His entire visit was 15 minutes. Anyone can purchase a capacitor for $5 to $20, but Commercial Service decided that they were going to charge me $130 for this cheap, easy to replace piece. The $130 is on top of the $86 diagnostic fee. All told, my bill was $217 for 15 mins of work and a $10 part.

I made a phone call to Commercial Service and was given the run around all day about who could make the decision to possibly lower my bill. After speaking with Grant and then Charlie Lofton, Charlie asked me what I wanted him to do, I asked him to lower my bill. He asked how much I was willing to pay for the part, I said that $60 seemed fair, as this was still at least a 400 to 500% markup on the part ( I understand that there is markup on parts in the service industry). Charlie said he would call me later in the day after he spoke with Greg about what they could do to lower my bill.

Charlie called me back, and said he made the decision that he would not lower my bill. He said he didn't speak with Greg, and made the decision on his own. I found this to be absolutely terrible customer service, as he was completely unwilling to change my bill. I find it even more telling of their business practices that they would be willing to lose a future customer over $60-70. In a nutshell, Commercial Service's markup on a part was 1300%. I will not recommend them to anyone and will explicitly warn people of their business practices that are borderline highway robbery.
