The business was started by Eldred and Jo Ann Lewis in 1965 under the name Lewis Heating & A/C. At 202 S Broadway in Larned, they supplied quality Maytag items, Motorola TVs, and Coleman heating and air conditioning, in addition to servicing various brands. They relocated to their present location at 622 Topeka Street in 1971. In 1977, Steven Lewis, their son, entered the business as an HVAC technician. In 2008, Steven took over the business from his parents and renamed it Comfort Systems Inc. to highlight the focus on comfort and energy savings.

Steven is a licensed plumber and mechanical contractor in Kansas. He is trained as a home energy rater and has been part of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society since 1992. Steven is also NATE certified in air distribution and duct installation.

As a lifelong Larned resident, Steven graduated from Leadership Larned and has held positions as a member and Chair of the Building and Trades Board for the City of Larned. He is also a member of the Fort Larned Lions Club, where he serves as Treasurer. He has occupied all leadership positions in the Club and served as District Governor, subsequently being elected Council Chairman for the Lions of Kansas.
