I sent out a detailed request for quotes on Yelp for installing a new faucet / connecting a new sink with garbage disposal. I included pictures as well for clarity of the job. I chose Clear Water Plumbing among the quotes as Garrett was friendly & prompt via the Yelp app and they had a good price.

However when the Austin the plumber showed up, it was clear there had not been communication with him and the intake coordinator/Garrett on the job/quote. He said the quote was ""wrong"" because of the garbage disposal and would cost more.

When I said this was already clarified in the texts for the quote, he made me show him my Yelp texts, as if he didn't believe me! Once he saw I told the truth and it was already there, he then pivoted to say Well the quote was still wrong, and he more than doubled the price of the original quote (I had already added an extra $200 for replacing 2 angle stops which was not doubled, just the original quote went from $195 to $450, for a new total of $650).

In discussing this ""bait and switch"", and the fact that the texts clearly showed the garbage disposal was noted in the connection fee quote, his last excuse was it was because they didn't come out and do an ""on-site"" quote, that's why the original quote was wrong.

Really? The text mentioning ""garbage disposal"" and the picture showing the garbage disposal under the sink was not sufficient (?) and knowing it was a new sink you didn't know it would need to be connected? If there was any doubt you could have texted something prior about possible price fluctuation or any warning the price could double upon the appointment?

Needless to say I was disgusted at this ""bait & switch"" practice for the quote, and so had to decline service, go back to the drawing board, wasting both our time.

Final note: I chose them for the high ratings on Yelp, but did not use them due to this attempt to more than double the original quote. So, I cannot comment on the quality of their work, only on their poor business practices. If you call them, My suggestion is never trust any quote they give by Yelp app or remotely, no matter how clear and detailed you make it, as they don't honor their own quotes via text. And if they come in person, get it in writing. For me, I would never use them due to this experience. There are too many good honest plumbers out there to choose from.

They send a very nice and polite technician. His name was Austin. He was very knowledgeable. He checked above and beyond even water heater for water pressure problem. I really recommend this company since their charge is very reasonable and they're not charging you any penny for diagnosing plus if they don't find any problem they're honest and don't tell you this and that to make money what any nonsense reason. Very professional and honest people and company . I recommend it thousands and hundreds time. Thanks for reading.

Great work deserves recognition, and Clearwater was fantastic! I was on a tight schedule, and they showed up right on time, they were very good and efficient, and it was very much appreciated. Garrett and one of his crew were both at my home and they were very polite, courteous and professional. I manage a few vacation rentals in Laguna Beach and after today, I have asked them to take over my plumbing needs for those three properties. I highly recommend Clearwater Plumbing!
