A year later- update---Church said we needed a NEW grinder pump as I stated in my review 10/2017..1 Year later its still working!!! So as I said a year ago-They are a rip-off.
It's nearly unbelievable to me that Church Plumbing & Heating hasn't received more 5-star ratings than I am seeing on this site. I have been using Church since July of 2005 and have always been treated fairly and courteously. Since I had them install a new furnace and central air-conditioning 13 years ago, I have remained a steadfast customer, have never been disappointed, and have recommended Church to friends. Other customers may have encountered occasional problematic experiences, but I can honestly say that I have not. I am really quite puzzled by the sheer number of poor reviews that have been posted here. I can only hope that Church has not been negatively ""Yelped"" because this company has been, and continues to be, prompt and fair in my dealings with them.
Company overcharges for repairs done to your furnace, compared price of work that was done to my furnace with what other companies would charge for the same repair, found that this company's charges were at least 30% higher! When confronted with the results of my findings, their reply was "" Yes our price may be higher but we never said we were cheaper than other companies"". Attempted to cancel my service contract at that time and was told it would involve a penalty charge to cancel and would cost me extra money! Had their serviceman out to get my furnace ready for this winter 2018, which is included at no charge under the service contract, when he left he said everything checked out and was ready to go. 12 days later, I turned on my furnace for the first time since the service and it didn't work! My contract was now up and I am covered by a home warranty to make repairs, thinking that something had happened to the furnace since it was checked, I called the warrantee co. to check it out, at a cost of a $60 service charge. Turns out that the only thing wrong was that the previous repairman didn't turn the ignition switch on before leaving!! Church is refusing to refund the $60 service fee for their negligence! Shameful business practices!
Avis B.Poor customer service. I paid for the yearly maintenance plan and that meant, I wasted my money. They did not come out in a timely fashion. I have 2 leaky faucets, still. The plan gives you no priority. Then the people answering the phone give excessive attitude. I called another company and got a second opinion, church wanted to replace my tankless hot water heater for thousands of dollars when another company was able to tighten a piece and only cost a few hundred. Very disappointed and will never use them again!
They arrived on time and walked into a variety of problems in our building. He addressed the most crucial and we will be scheduling a return visit to take care of the others since this is a commercial site. A most pleasant and courteous young man that really knew his business.

i guess i should have read here first, i would give them negative stars if that was an option. i was out of town and my wife was at home with no heat and she called church plumbing and heating for help. the tech came over, looked at the furnace and said it would be around $500 to repair. my wife knows nothing about furnaces so she trusted the tech and agreed to the price since she had few options since the heat was out for over 24 hours. the tech said he had to replace a pressure switch and had to go get one. he left and soon returned and he was in the basement around 30 minutes and said he would send the invoice later. when we received the invoice all it said was pressure switch $543.00. after doing some research on my model furnace i found that the most expensive pressure switch was $43, so $500 for labor and driving to get the part seems pretty ridiculous. when i returned home i called them and asked for an itemized invoice and was told they would call me back, when they didn't i went to their office. there i met with Mike Church, the owner, who told me point blank NO that they would not give me an itemized bill and that my wife was given a price and she accepted. IMO his statement told me all i needed to know about this company, they are hiding costs, overcharging for services and will never be honest with customers. i do agree with his statement about the quoted price being given but i do feel that they took advantage of the situation; my wife not knowing anything about furnaces, and took advantage of my family at a vulnerable time; no heat for 24 hours. IMO i would never recommend this company as i see them as deceitful and willing to prey on customers any chance they get just to make a buck.
About two or three months ago, my kitchen faucet was broken. Influenced by the good rating, I called Church Plumbing for an estimation. They said they did not give estimation over the phone. They would send a service person to see it then give the estimation and the trip would cost around $80 dollars if I remembered correctly. Remembering that three years ago, it only cost me about $150 (I bought the part) to install by another plumber and this time it would be too much expensive.
Wrong, I was too naïve. When the service man came, his estimation was $360. By the time, it would be hard to say no, for it would cost me $80 for nothing. Now I realized why they did not want to give you an estimation over phone like other plumbers. It only cost the serviceman 30 minute to replace my broken faucet.
Later, I googled the internet finding the prevailing changes were from $225 to $270 (depending on difficulty of removing the old part; mine was installed three years ago and very easy to take off). Although the Angieslist's estimations were based on the 2 015 market, given a 3% inflation , in a Midwest city of 300,000 of moderate living cost, it should not cost $360 ( I provided the part) for a typical easy faucet replacement.
See what I got from the Angieslist:
In your area, expect to pay at least $150. In other parts of the country, the price can range from $114 to $189. If your job includes removing an old faucet before installing the new one, expect to pay $225 to $275 or more, depending on whether or not your plumber needs to adjust water lines. Jul 26, 2015

I recently had Church out to work on a few things at my house. I have a few complaints with my service from Church. First off, they operate out of a ""price book"" where a certain job will cost a certain amount. It would be fair to pay that rate when it turns out to be a 5 minute fix, as long as when something goes south, they stick to that rate. That isn't how it works though. I drastically overpaid for them to fix a toilet, for which they just screwed on a new flapper. But when rodding my drain went sideways, they stopped and said ""this is going to be more expensive.""
When discussing what was going on with me, his phone rang, and mid-sentence he picked it up and started talking on the phone like I wasn't even there. I went back in my house. I called him on being rude, to which he replied that it was the office and he had to take the call. I get calls from my office that I have to take too, but that doesn't stop me from at bare minimum saying ""Pardon me a second, I really have to take this.""
Lastly and most significantly, after rodding my kitchen sinks, they told me they couldn't free it up, that I had a break in my main line outside my house, likely under my concrete patio (yikes). They were to get back to me with numbers. I told them that I had a home warranty, and I wasn't sure if they would let me choose my own plumber or not, but that I'd be waiting on their figures. I never got anything, which was probably fortunate. I had another plumber come out and he rodded the lines and told me that my issue wasn't in the main line at all. The guy rodded the same sink lines that Church had already done, except now it works. No digging or concrete patio busting needed.
Absolute garbage company. Incompetent, incapable of meeting their appointments, incapable of dealing with the problems their company creates. I would do anything to avoid this company in the future and recommend the same to anyone. Everyone else I've talked to about them has a similar horror story. It's a little scary realizing that utterly incapable people would run a heating/AC/plumbing company, as these are utilities people rely upon and Church is entirely unreliable.
In 2009 Church Heating installed a geothermal system into our newly built home. In early July, 2016 the cooling began failing, not keeping up with our cooling needs. I called Church and requested service on 8 July, 2016 and technicians came to our house on 11 July, 2016. They seemed polite and competent enough, but told me that they were not aware that we had a geothermal system (again installed by the same company) and were not specifically trained to do geothermal repairs. They diagnosed a sticking TXV valve and told me the central office would provide an estimate. As this did not happen in the next 3 days, I called the office again and was told that the information was on the desk of the person who does the estimates, and that I would receive a call. It is now almost 2 weeks after the technicians visited, still no estimate. In the interim I consulted a geothermal specialist and learned that the problem was not likely the TXV valve, that the system was low on refrigerant and there was a possible leak at the heat exchanger. The geothermal specialist added refrigerant and the system is working well and we are planning a followup to check for leaks.
