I had used Chuck the Plumber in the past, and thought he (Chuck) was great. Had his company back a second time for a different job and David came. The job could not be completed in day 1 because of a defective part, and David was nice enough to ask us to get the part that evening and book him to come back the next day to finish, which we did. Except Chuck showed up the next day. Chuck refused to honor David's written business promise (saying he will be telling David to never make promises like that going forward), purposefully overcharged us, and then when I questioned his charges, proceeded to literally YELL at me in my kitchen, not let me speak, tell me I bought a piece of crap product and tried to take a check physically out of my hand because he had ""other places to be"". When I wouldn't let him have the check until he had fully explained himself, he told me to write a check for whatever amount I wanted, but to never ask him to come back to our house again. He was bullying. He was inappropriate. He was misogynistic. He discredited everything I attempted to say (not that he let me get anything out of my mouth). And based on his responses to any question I asked, I'm pretty sure he purposefully not only overcharged us, but also attempted to install our product ineffectively in order to be able to claim it's ""defective"" and expect a call back to ""fix"" it. But when I called him out on that, and let him know I work with contractors for a living and fully understand the intricacies of what should be accounted for in labor, time and materials costs, he ""fixed"" it immediately.
He also sat in my kitchen after ""finishing"" the job and proceeded to make work calls - time he charged us for.
My husband called his business after receiving my detailed account of what transpired here and spoke to his wife, who did nothing more than say repeatedly that she was not there to see what happened, and that neither was he, fully working to discredit my account.
At this point, I realize I should have written a check for whatever I thought was fair, because we will never have him back here. I know everyone in Olney thinks he's fantastic. I did too after the first experience with him. But bear in mind, if you ever try to get him to explain himself, or question anything about his charges/business practices or promises made by his staff, you'll be met with a different person.
matt l.So not great service. comes today 50 min before the window and charges me because I wasn't available. Um we picked a window! Then they come and the plumber tells me I bought a crap faucet. Install what I tell you! Then he can't show me the price break down and when I push he pulls out a cheat sheet showing prices on scrap paper. Then he tells me he's been there longer than he was. I like giving money to local guys, but sometimes the big boys act honest. Avoid.
Don't be fooled by the name chuck the plumber. This is a corporation and not an individual plumber. I cannot believe that they can get away with charging so much to just to replace a fill valve. They refuse to give you an estimate beforehand. Then they charge an astronomical fee. They charged $279.00 for something that took 20 minutes to do and didn't involve any dirty work. I think it should be illegal to charge so much for such a small easy job.
I can't say enough about how professional and reliable Chuck the Plumber service is. I called about steaming hot water faucet and he was professional, found a quick fix and very honest and reliable service! I booked another appointment right away for a badly installed garbage disposal. They made making the appointment nice and a pleasant chat, fixing the issues seemed like a breeze. I will never call another plumber, very honest, straight forward and had the best price for the job. I highly recommend to anybody who wants a plumber that knows what they are doing to call them. Not only did they fix the problems, they go above and beyond to make sure all is working properly.
Kristy L.Always reliable, professional, and will gave us all the options to address our problem as well as the necessary info to make a good decision. BONUS: hands down gave the best price for the job. . He had not only the best price of all the estimates but took care of the work quickly, with quality and did not add any ""extra fees""
Finally, he and his staff are most personable, genuine and trustworthy. Thanks guys!
Lance S.Chuck & David once again came through for us, they just replaced our basement bathroom sink and did it neatly & quickly. Very friendly to work with, too.
I hired this guy to install a new water heater in my house. He and his assistant set the new water heater up and before the job was done, Chuck left to go to the next job leaving his assistant to finish up wiring the new water heater and testing it out. The assistant could not get the new unit to turn on because the circuit breaker at the main house supply box would not turn on. The assistant dismissed this and said my problem was with the circuit box and not with the water heater. I asked him if he wired it properly and he emphatically said ""yes"", and that I now would have to hire an electrician to determine the problem. He did not go back and check his wiring job. Chuck's assistant charged me $1,275 for the work done, despite still not having a water heater that worked and not knowing exactly why.
The next day I was able to get the lead electrician from GAC Services in Gaithersburg (Bruce Moore who I cant speak highly enough) to analyze the problem. He checked the wiring done by Chuck's assistant and found that the wires were ""pinched"" in the J-box causing a dead short, not allowing the breaker to set. This findings were detailed on the electrician's bill. The electrician had to cut out the bad wires and rewire the water heater.
When I called Chuck to explain the problem and request reimbursement for the electrician, Chuck went nuts over the phone. He called me a liar. He said that the electrician was a liar. He said that no matter what I would tell him, it would be a lie. He wouldn't allow me to explain how his assistant kept trying over and over to make the circuit breaker set, when in fact the water heater had a short and the circuit breaker was only doing its job.
There are plenty of good, honest, ethical plumbers in Montgomery County who stand behind their work. I learned the hard way with this ugly experience. Don't make the same mistake I did.....
Rich H.We used Chuck the Plumber in our 'old' house to address issues found during a home inspection. They came out within a day and fixed everything that was found and didn't charge a fortune. Now we're in our 'new' house & again had a list of fixes needed from inspection. They came the next day and went through the hit-list without an issue. Awesome service, good pricing & reliable. Will use them for everything 'plumbing'!
Don S.Chucks the best. Pure and simple. Complete trust. Used him since 1994! Chuck will be there at six in the morning or in the evening. Service expertise and Price are all a tremendous value.
Best plumbing Co. in the Washington DC area.
Chuck has always been as good as his estimates. Reasonable, reliable, professional, and thorough.
No matter what the situation the outcome has always been the same and he always makes sure to clean up when the job is done. I am always pleased and would never hesitate to use his services.
I've Been using Chuck the Plumber since 1985 and will continue to use and recommend him to anyone.
