Company Overview

In the mid-20th century, our grandfather, W.G. Christianson, launched a small plumbing firm to support home builders in the Austin area. As Austin developed, so did the Christianson business, and over the years, the second and third members of the Christianson family joined the family firm. The family launched an office in San Antonio in 1978, and our latest office, Temple, in the year 2006. The Christianson Family wants you to receive authentic worth in the services and goods you buy. We strive on a daily basis to realize this objective.

We had a problem with a slight gas leak on one of the water heaters above the garage and we called Christianson Plumbing. We live in a community near Bee Cave. Jeff was our plumber. He found the leak, but in addition we mentioned that we have this knocking sound whenever the shower runs. He checked and found that we had a slight water leak as well and a bad back flow valve(I think that is what it is called). This is part of a recirculating pump we have on one of the water heaters because of the distance to the bathroom meant waiting a long time for hot water. We also mentioned that even with the recirculating pump we wait for a long time for hot water. He checked the timer and the settings were all wrong. The recirculating pump was running during midday and the middle of the night. Maybe the previous owners had odd hours. Well he fixed all of these problems plus giving us an estimate for complete replacement of the water heaters as they are nearing end of life. In addition he told us to get some watchdog leak monitors for about $12 dollars at home depot and put them in the pans under the water heater so we would get a warning if a leak does occur in one of them. Cheep insurance. Also what I liked about Jeff is that he is all business. He gets to work and gets it done but still has time to explain the problem, the solution and the cost.

Just had a annual serivce call and several small plumbing projects. Excellent service and workmanship. All work was done as explained. Costs seem fair. David and Eric were outstanding, professional, cleaned up thoroughly when finished. Will be calling Christianson Plumbing again when needed.

I have used this plumbing co. 4 times. One job, which I called around for quotes, averaged $250.However at Christianson it was $175.. They will hook you into their bi-yearly checks, which isn't a bad deal, but I opt to call as needed....I like them!

The technician was clearly very competent and repaired my air conditioning in less than 15 minutes. The problem is that Christianson billed me $172.58 for a $62.99 part - a ludicrous markup.

Unbelievably bad.

We live in a 20 year old house. The furnace and AC gave out last summer, 2012. After exploring options Christianson seemed like a reasonable choice based on price and other reviews.

New system installed in a day for 6K and then the problems started.

In a little over a year we have had technicians come out on five separate occasions due to poor initial wiring, collapse of a plenum the installer built, power problems, and failure of a switch.

Today the tech was telling us we were going to have to spend another 5k - 7k to really get the system fixed right. We already spent 6k on a new furnace, condenser, outdoor unit, and the promised duct work.

Ridiculous. I strongly urge you to avoid this company. Based on other reviews some of the techs do good work, but based on my experience the installation is a real dice roll.

Christianson installed the Carrier heatpump system in our 2007 Lennar home, so when we bought it we thought it would make sense to have them service the system should anything be wrong with it. Alas, this was a mistake. As the heat increased it became clear that the system was not running very well - we had very little air downstairs. I had them come out to take a look and make whatever repairs and or adjustments necessary. The technician came out, cleaned it out and pronounced it all in good health. There was still very little air downstairs. I then took a look at it myself and found that the counterweight on the bypass damper was completely loose (came off in my hand) and had probably never been tightened when the system was originally installed - this meant the furnace was basically just blowing air in a loop back to itself. I tightened (something very simple and easy to check, no excuse for not checking this when I pay you to) and it helped some but was still not good enough. I later took a second look and found the damper to direct air downstairs was dead (another easy thing to check that he missed). Wanting to give Christianson the benefit of the doubt and a chance to redeem themselves. I called them up. They came out and replaced the zone damper (which was fortunately still under warranty so they only charged for labor) - things were good for about a day - then there was no air again. I went up in the attic to look at it and found the new damper to have fallen over since it was never properly secured - the technician had just dropped it in without any thought of how it was going to be supported, and in addition there was a huge hole in the duct for the air to escape. Needless to say I repaired it myself this time - doing the job I had just paid them $90 to do - since they got the part for free from the manufacturer as it was still under warranty. No more benefit of the doubt. Now the system is having issues again, wonder what other surprises I will find this time...

We have used Christianson Plumbing several times over the last few years. This last problem was difficult to solve but the service staff has worked diligently to rectify the issue. The service manager even came out himself with two of his guys to make sure the job was done to my satisfaction. I appreciate a business that worries about their reputation and will bend over backward to let you know they put your satisfaction above all else.

This is one review I've waited quite some time to do, because there is significantly more at stake in the choice of one's a/c or plumbing provider than, say, one's meal on any particular night. There's no sense in being rash where hundreds or thousands of dollars may be involved, and yet ... well, wade through the pool of 5 and 1 star reviews for this company and others like it and you'll likely see my point. As a reasonable person might deduce, any company providing services that are both expensive and not well understood by the general public runs unavoidable risks. There are going to be polarized subsets of customers, regardless of how well you do your job. Since it is counterintuitive that an established company is both "the best" and "the worst", our challenge as consumers is to gauge where in between said company likely falls. Hopefully I can help in that regard.

I've been a customer of Christianson's for 3 years now. I take advantage of their yearly maintenance plans for both my a/c system and my water heater. I appreciate that I don't have to think about it. When an inspection is due, I get a call to schedule service. I can usually have a tech at my door as quickly as I want, or whenever else suits my schedule. Every visit has been conducted by a courteous, knowledgeable tech willing to either hang back and answer my dumb questions, or get in and out as unobtrusively as possible.

On my most recent a/c service call the tech discovered a significant coolant loss. He quickly diagnosed the problem -- a rather substantial one -- and patiently explained my options. After getting the go-ahead, Christianson handled all the warranty issues on my behalf and had a new part ready to install within a few days. Another specialist had everything installed, charged up, and good as new in no time. The labor costs, which were not under warranty, were daunting. Being a cheapskate, I checked around quite extensively. The price quoted was very competitive, even before deducting my additional 10% off for being a service plan customer.

I've got nothing dazzling, intriguing, or particularly thought-provoking to say about Christianson. I can only testify that they have consistently done me right over the course of years, in both preventative and corrective maintenance. Their techs have always been diligent professionals who inspire confidence. I have a lot of peace of mind dealing with these folks, and in this arena ... that'll do just fine.

We recently had our AC unit stop cooling and heating and called the original installer of our unit (we bought our house new and this is under 5 years old). The original installer sent someone out to check it out and told me there was a leak in the evaporator coil and it was going to cost quite a bit to get fixed. They "might" be able to get the coil under the warranty, but it would still cost quite a bit for the labor/refridgerant/etc.

Fast forward to Christianson. I submitted an internet request for a quote to see how much it would cost and I got a call that afternoon. The rep was very nice, took my info, and asked quite a bit of questions and mentioned they would check with Carrier to see what they thought. Long story short, they did their homework and was able to SUBSTANTIALLY reduce my repair (Carrier, the mfg of the AC unit picked up the majority of the tab), the guys got here @ 8:30a today and had it replaced, coolant replaced, and everything back up and running in about an hour.

The other company was probably going to double dip me (i.e. charge me for labor, etc and then collect from Carrier as well), so I am grateful that Christianson advised me of what they were going to do each step of the way. Will definitely do business with them again in the future!
