Charlie has been taking care of my 113 year old plumbing for quite a few years, and he does it quickly, affordable, and is one of the few plumbers in Portland who knows how to take care of my old Thomas Crapper toilet. I had one plumber come from one of the big guys in town, and he told me it couldn't be fixed and I needed to pull it out and get a regular toilet. Charlie shows up and says, ""Sure this can be fixed. It's simple."" And it was. No muss, no fuss, he just fixes things. Plus he's lovable, friendly, and a good guy. I've recommended him to all my friends, and they've been really happy too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We never actually ""used"" Charlie Hall Plumbing, in the traditional sense--but I'm giving them five stars anyway. Here's why:

For weeks, we'd had a mysterious leak in our basement. Our tankless hot water water appeared to be the culprit, but I couldn't see any leak. In fact, the water seemed to be coming from under the baseboard, which alarmed me. I figured we would have to have someone come out and tear apart the wall.

I came to Yelp to get quotes from about half a dozen plumbers. Most of them replied by saying they could have someone come out to our home as soon as the next day. But Jacob, from Charlie Hall Plumbing, responded by suggesting a possible solution to the problem.

Following Jacob's advice, I checked out our water heater more closely, found the source of the leak, and fixed it myself. I figure that saved us $150 to $200.

So while Jacob had every incentive to simply schedule a visit, like everyone else did, he didn't. Instead he offered free advice and saved us time and money. That's a rare thing, and I think it deserves to be called out.

Charlie and Jake have done numerous jobs for me and I really can't say enough things about them. They're friendly, efficient, timely, kind, and so cute. He brings the east coast charm. Finding them was the best thing that's happened for my pipes.

They gave me the best price on a fairly large job but then when I had questions (the same day I got the quote), it took seven tries in five days using various methods (phone, text, and email) to finally get a response. The response was ""hello we just took on a very large project. We will not be able to help you with your job at this time."" OK, I get it but did it really take all those attempts to tell me that? I can't speak to the quality of their work since they're not doing it, but the responsiveness could absolutely use improvement.

We had a pipe burst in the wall at 4am Christmas Eve. Charlie Hall Plumbing was very responsive and came out promptly and repaired the pipe outside during the freezing rain! We also decided to hire them to replace a toilet. Their costs are reasonable and I enjoyed working with them and will hire them for any future plumbing needs.

New Year's Eve 2022 began very poorly for me with a clogged toilet--the result of four years of flushing the cat litter detritus, rather than bagging it for disposal--and no amount of plunging would clear it, nor any of the home remedies suggested by the internet. Just TRY to get a plumber to your house on New Year's Eve! I made a thousand phone calls all Saturday morning. Roto Rooter's ""emergency service"" could book me three days (!) later, at the earliest. None of the other ""24-hour, open New Year's Eve"" plumbers even bothered to answer my many calls... except for one: a guardian angel named Charlie Hall, who arrived an hour later, as promised. Old-fashioned, good service, and inexpensive--especially considering the holiday. And turns out Charlie is a comics fan, like me. Kismet. A New Year's Eve miracle of sorts--and a problem-free toilet!

I set up an appointment for a quote and I was told that it would be for the morning. I called several times in the morning and they did not pick up. They told me they would meet me in the afternoon and they were a no show. Horrible communication and not reliable.

Is it weird to tell people how much you love your plumber? I have used Hall Plumbing three times, plus recommended them to my mom who has happily had them out as well. Charlie, Jake, and Chuck are friendly, extremely knowledgeable, professional, responsive, and wonderful to work with. I had to do a repipe and had 4 bids, Hall Plumbing was right in the middle, I went with them because of their exceptional customer service and knew if I ever had any follow up concerns, they would stand by their work. I've used them to also snake drains, their prices are reasonable compared to other vendors, and again, high level of customer service. They also gave me some advice to help with clogs in the future. I greatly appreciate Charlie and his sons' friendly demeanor and that they remember me (and my mom) when I call to schedule. They are responsive, on time, and a well oiled machine working together. They do excellent work, I would give 10 stars if I could!
