I used to use Richard Waltz Plumbing for small jobs, back when Richard Waltz was still running the place, and had good experiences, the company has changed hands, and the service I received recently was just plain bad. I asked for help with hot water being not hot enough, and was told by the young guy they sent over that my heater elements were fine, so to just live with it, or change out the entire hot water heater. I got a 2nd opinion from another place, and the 2nd place, called ""Water Systems,"" told me the hot water heater thermostats were bad, the guy they sent over replaced them at a modest cost, and now I have good hot water. I called back Waltz, and told them about the incorrect diagnosis I was given by their plumber, and was offered no money back, and no apology given. I paid for an hour and half, for wrong information.
P L.Maybe these guys are good for large jobs, but for small jobs they are just not worth it. I had them come to look at a leak under my sink that was working its way down to the apartment below. They charged $88 an hour which is a bit much, but they also charge $88 an hour for travel. Their office is in Portland, I live in Portland, but I got charged $44 for 'travel.' So it was $132 to be told it was probably just ice melting (even though there was mystery moisture under the sink).
I'm not saying they're terrible, but I had a bad experience, so consider yourself warned...
Hayward B.Spent $300 dollars to snake a drain, found a clogged section of pipe, swore up and down I needed a high pressure trailer to come clear the pipe and guaranteed it would clear the pipe. $1300 dollars later they got nowhere not a single foot past where they snaked. My advice to anyone going forward save yourself the money and go rent a power snake from sunbelt or HD. Tried to call the rep in Scarborough to settle on a reasonable price for their time and he just gave me the run around. Also they didn't show up on the day scheduled but called last minute and changed it to a day nobody was around to supervise the work.
They came out to unblock basement drain. Tech asked if I wanted Hydro Flush or snake. I said, ""I don't know you are the drain cleaner"" Went with Hydrio, signed an IPad approving a $350+ charge. Didn't work, only made a very slow moving drain. Tech suggested trying to snake, again another 350+ charge, signed iPad approving. That worked. so what was suppose to be a 350 job was doubled. They charge by the procedure, not the job.
