Thomas B, our service technician was really awesome. When he first arrived, he was super friendly and professional and once we got to the unit, you could see his experience and knowledge of water heaters immediately come out. We had a 20 year old unit that did a wonderful job for our family but replacing it entailed not just the water heater but upgrading our lines, improving valves and bringing it up to California standards. He was very detailed, thorough and clean with his work and explainations. They were able to work the financial commitment to fit our budget and were just super easy and wonderful to deal with.

Being that this was the first time we had to deal with our water heater in 20 years, there was a lot to learn quickly but Thomas B was super thorough, their pricing was comparable and reasonable and I would absolutely recommend them to our family and friends. Scott R. from CastleWorks came to the house to address a concern with the Noritz tankless water heater, which was given error code 11. After taking a bunch of pictures, he claims that he has to call Noritz for troubleshooting, which will cost me $175. I thought all the technicians were ""trained"" to fix Noritz tankless water heaters, but they still needed hand-holding from Noritz. Go figure. More importantly, why am I paying the technician to get instructions from Noritz to fix the problem while on the job?

The story gets even better; instead of addressing the error code, he tells me I need to revamp the plumbing because the acidity of the condensation likely damages the copper pipe. Of course, the water pump needs to be replaced as well because it's incompatible with Noritz tankless water heaters. Well, I have never had any issues with the water pump for the past 8 years and couldn't understand the rationale for replacement.

In short, the repair cost is estimated to be around $1500, at the minimum, to fix error code 11, which, according to Noritz, is an issue with the ignition. Is CastleWorks really in the business of helping consumers? Are these technicians here to scam customers? Do they need proper training before engaging the public? To cut my losses, I gladly paid the $49 trip fee to get rid of the snake oil salesman. By the way, other plumbing companies do not charge a trip fee!
