Carter Hardware knows no bounds. Carter Hardware, Inc. is the foremost decorative hardware and plumbing showroom in the western U.S., operated by a family with a rich history spanning three generations in the industry.
Founded in the early 1900s, Carter Brothers was created by two great uncles of the current owner. Acme Hardware, the predecessor to the first decorative plumbing and hardware showroom in the western United States, was launched in 1923 by his grandfather. In 1959, Phylrich International, a key player in decorative hardware and plumbing manufacturing, was established with his father at the helm.
The current family generation joined the business in 1978 at Acme Hardware. The family established Decorators Accessories in 1984 to import decorative hardware, subsequently acquiring a metal polishing and plating company that transformed into Decorative Metal Finishing. In 1991, Carter Hardware commenced operations. As the third generation, Tony Carter continues a family legacy in the decorative plumbing and hardware industry that spans nearly a century. Entering the industry in 1978, he acquired expertise in commercial and residential hardware and plumbing, along with electroplating. Since then, he has mastered all aspects of the industry, from manufacturing to showroom sales. His blend of expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction makes him a standout in the industry.

Amazing service, extremely knowledgeable staff. A real pleasure. They provided all my plumbing and hardware on my complete remodel.
So happy their are still small family owned businesses.
Really appreciated the personal service.

We needed a replacement part for a bathtub fixture that a contractor had broken installing. Keep in mind that thousands of dollars were spent at this store buying, kitchen and bathroom appliances. I emailed Carter's and told them what I needed, I was sent over a credit card authorization form. I filled it out and was charged for the part. Part comes, it's the wrong part. I go to return the part I get attitude from the store owner about ordering the wrong part. One would assume that a small business that you have spent money with would have cross checked and made sure you are ordering the correct part, especially seeing how the original part was bought through them. No where on the credit card authorization did it list a return policy, I didn't receive a receipt of the order with a return policy either. After returning the part to his store, the owner refused to return the idea and give a refund. I had to go through another company who ordered the correct part with no issue. Carter Hardware has terrible customer service, if I could give them a zero star I would. I'm out the price of the part and I don't even have the part in my possession.

We needed a replacement part for a fixture we bought from another vendor many years ago, and Kristin was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive in helping us find it, even though Carter had little to nothing to gain from this transaction. They will have our business in future.

I am hesitant to give this place even one star. The staff are ignorant and don't even bother to ask to offer any help. The salesman named David is the most rudest and unprofessional person I have met. He seemed to be preoccupied behind his desk with personal business and looked extremely annoyed when asked about items. Would not even bother to move from his desk to show any of the products. I thought maybe it's a bad day for them and on my next visit I went in with my designer. His lordship this time did look up to make an introduction but in an attempt to show us a front door mortise lock he was so rough and aggressive that he almost hit our foot with it. We walked out and purchased all the items for our project from other stores within the same vicinity. Save your sanity and time and stay away from this business.

I went in to discuss some hardware and a very nice woman waited on me and took time to price everything out for me. She printed out some choices and I will make some decisions. The only problem was another older, but not that old woman, was talking on the phone so loudly, I couldn't hear myself think and it was totally obnoxious. She kept laughing and talking so loudly to all the phone conversations at her desk right next to my salesperson's desk. I wouldn't know how in the world my saleswoman could stand this day in and day out. Hey, woman, control yourself! You are too loud! When a customer is in the store, lower your voice! Be courteous. I felt bad for my salesperson listening to the laughter and chatter of her colleague while my salesperson was trying to help me.

This place is really phenomenal. Saved me money and a lot of time and they have great taste.
I was doing construction on an old house needing new door hardware.. with a LOT of doors. Every place I went to was asking me questions like I was the expert. Truth is I had no clue what I needed and was staring at door hardware with the same confused look I had during high school calculus.
David Swanson from CH came out to the house, thoughtfully counted every door and window (if you've done this, you know that interior vs exterior hardware is lot to account for just on its own), and once it arrived, organized and marked every single door knob, latch, hinge, for its appropriate location in the house.
If not for David, I would still be figuring out how to pronounce ""mortice"" lock, let alone how many i actually needed.
Awesome place.

We have just completed redoing our custom kitchen and Carter hardware is very un professional with a snooty attitude and poor customer service skills. I would never use them again go to Water Works or Snyder Diamond you will be treated better and they will say thank you for your business.

I am at the very beginning of the process in building a new house. My interior designer said I must begin at Carter Hardware. I read the reviews and was not excited. But, I went in today.
Wow. David helped me for a very, very long time. He was patient and explained so much.
For those who say the people who work there don't care, or customers were offended because they weren't asked if they needed help....maybe if you needed help you should have said hello and asked? I had questions and every one was answered in a professional, informed manner.
Also, the items they have in their showroom are spectacular. There was a bathtub unlike I've seen before. And once they caught on to what my taste was based on what I was pointing out, they recommended other items that they thought I'd like, and they were correct. I will go back to Carter Hardware and recommend that you do too if you are looking for truly beautiful items for your home.

I work for a GC and we decided to use Carter Hardware for a small project. At first we thought they weren't too bad because they were very nice in person and on the phone. But that all seemed to change as the project progressed. They are very slow, do not respond quickly to emails or phone calls, do not put priority in our orders, messed up our order and blamed us, and overall, they have been a nightmare to work with. I've had to email the same people multiple times about the same issue and still have not seen a thing.

They should call it ""Ignore you as long as possible and then talk down to you while you're selecting items to buy from them"" Hardware.
Seriously, how do you stay in business that long after you've completely run out of fucks to give?
Meh.
