I called this company yesterday and made an appointment for 12 pm today at 11:00 (an hour BEFORE) I got a call that they were TOO BUSY with their regular customers to get to me and CANCELED the appointment. I explained that I had water pouring from a pipe in a crawl space that was destroying my house and they said ""our customers come first"". What was I? I thought I was a NEW customer!
The work done was thousands more than most of the competition. And to make matters worse ,the owner was unprofessional and very unpleasant to work with.
Christopher R.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY REASON ! I called them a while back for a leak in my garage and made an appointment for 5:00 pm the following day. The plumber showed up at my house at 11:30 pm and rang the bell (despite the fact that the lights were off and my family was asleep). His excuse was that "" he couldn't get away from the job before me"". 6 & 1/2 hours late? I asked him to return the following day (which was a Saturday) believing that I would be first on the list. The following day, 2 plumbers showed up at my house at 2:30pm and one of them had a broken arm, wearing a cast, and proceeded to tell me that he ""didn't want this job in the first place"". He looks through an opening that I had cut out in my garage ceiling, then goes up to the bathroom above it. He returns and informs me that my bathtub need re-caulking and that Mr Rooter doesn't do this type of work. He then hands me a bill for more than $200. I told him that their ad says ""free estimates"" and his reply was ""that's only if we do the work"". Naturally, my wife and I put a stop-payment on the check.
The following Monday, I received a call (at work) from their Customer Service rep inquiring about my non-payment and experience. When I informed him that his broken-armed plumber ""didn't want the job in the first place"", his reply was ""well, I'll have to speak to him about that"". What kind of a customer service response is that? Then we got into the issue of payment: (charging me more than $200 for 2 minutes of estimate time?)
Again, I was told that the estimate is only free if the work is done. I said ""then why wasn't I informed of that in my driveway BEFORE this excuse for a plumber walked into my house""? His reply was ""that's not our usual policy"". When he pressed me again for payment, I told him I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint and he would be dealing with them. His response was ""go ahead. that's your right.""
As a footnote to this experience: I contacted a coworker of mine whose husband is a genuine, professional contractor. He came by and diagnosed the situation. The bathtub was fine but we had a small leak in a drainpipe right above my garage ceiling. He replaced it in less than an hour and charged me $100.
Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend Mr Rooter (not even at gunpoint). Atrocious service and absolutely terrible customer relations. Avoid this company at all costs. With all the competition in the plumbing field, you'd be much better off contacting a reputable, professional company.
Daniel E.I am just so totally and incredibly impressed with every step of my interactions with Mr. Rooter fixing a couple issues in a rental unit. The dispatcher kept me in the loop, with a fast and friendly tone that really gave me confidence... And Ian, the tech, was amazing! He quickly diagnosed the plumbing problems--a clogged main house trap and a broken hot water faucet, and made recommendations... I was surprised to find out that he could take care of everything right then. And he did! He wasn't just a great tech, he was a great ambassador for the business... Careful and polite to the tenants, conscious of my concerns as a landlord, and yes, he even wore booties! This is my new go-to plumbing service, and I will recommend enthusiastically.
Be warned that this company trespasses and damages other people's property. Our neighbor's contracted Mr. Rooter in Pleasant Valley to put in a new sewer line. in Peekskill, NY. Engineering plans were drawn up that I am sure included the property line. There were 2 1/2 foot markers designating the property line which is 6.6 feet from the neighbor's fence and there were wood logs lined up along the boarder. 3 clear visible indicators of the property line were ignored and while the actual sewer pipe is on the right side by inches Mr. Rooter had people, an excavator, and part of the trench on my property. Mind you the neighbor and their attorney were pre-warned that they nor any agents acting on their behalf (that means you, Mr. Rooter) are permitted on my property.
We called Mr. Rooter on Tues 6/24 no one called back but IAN came over and spoke to us and we said we want your boss to call us. IAN claimed the engineer told him the property line was further over...ignorance is no excuse...there were clear property markers (until they started working over and past them). They did not exercise due diligence and now my property has been trampled...not to mention the 2 property markers I cannot locate now because of the work they did. This cost me $1000 in 2010 to have markers and the rods placed.
We called and left a message for DREW on Wed 6/25 and no one called back. We gave our cell number to IAN on Thurs 6/26 to have his boss call us and not a one call.
We had the POLICE out today to document the damage and we filed a police report. Some business! Oh yeah and they managed to break the City water main or sewer main (not sure which) when they were working so the street that had just been repaved last year is all dug up. Bravo!
Know where the property line is before you dig...isn't that common sense!
I also had a terrible experience with this company and dealt with ""Drew"" who I s the front man. Call your local plumber, even if you might have to wait for them. This company finds targets, not customers. The crazy amount they charge for their services is so out of line with what a real plumber would charge. You are paying for their franchise. My husband called them to fix the filler value in the toilet. This is a $9 part from Home Depot. The bladder also had to be replaced. That is a $15 part from Home Depot. The ""plumber"" was at my house for about 45 minutes. They called it a minor tank rebuild. Hahaha. They charged my husband $400 to replace very inexpensive parts and 45 minutes of work that consisted of unbolteing a couple of screws. I was not home and my husband (who knows nothing of mechanics) sent me a text to tell me what he paid. For $400 we could have purchased a brand new toilet and had the old one carted away, for less. I called ""Drew"" to have him explain this outrageous bill Pretty much it was ""Too bad lady, your husband ok'd it."" I asked why so much, and received the usual, ""That's what we charge."" Horrible rip off. My husband now knows why I only call the local guy who isn't sitting in a air-conditioned office with secretaries and designer vans. Don't call them. They don't have customers, only victims who might not know they were just really ripped off.
Update, Brian(Manager) called me an expressed his concern about my expierence. He took the time to understand my concerns and get to the bottom of my issues. I feel he will use my experience to better the company. He was very concerned in the details that were expressed and told me by his contractor. I feel that they will look at this from a customers view and fine tune there services..
Mary K.If you have ever had a sewer backup you know what I am describing. Horrific is not the word for what was going on and being stupid we kept trying to do stuff ourselves which caused even more to come up. Mr Rooter's service is top stuff - they answer the phone and provide you with help immediately not like others who start scheduling you in as if you are making a manicure appointment. Prices are reasonable and they dont start hiking up when they arrive(like some other) nor do they cause you damage and mess. Was really pleased to find these guys and while I hope we never need this kind of help again it sure is good to know where to turn for reliable plumbing help! Thumbs u!p
Brian G.I had Jean come over yesterday for a flood in my basement and he was fantastic. I was freaking out at the damage already done to my carpet, but he was calm, professional, and walked me through what he had to do to fix my issue. Most important to me: he gave me a price up front, which didn't change. Second: he came out right away (I'm used to the nonsense I get when calling the cable company and have to wait ""from 7 to 5""). I was impressed with the value.
We called Mr Rooter for a septic back flow problem. The problem was only with high volume flow like a shower not slow volume like flushing a toilet or using the sink. We informed the tech that we have lived in our house since 2009 and the septic had not been pumped since 2007 we wondered if our tank was full. We went out in the yard and gave him the land survey map of the property that indicates were the septic tank is and the leach field. He could not locate the tank - he was only poking the ground looking for it out by the leach field - never close to our home. (Now we know that by law, new construction has to have a septic tank within 20 feet of the home - he never even looked there!) After not finding our tank in order to open it and tell us if it was full, he proceeded to open the main septic outflow cap in the basement. He inserted a snake about 10 feet in and immediately said it was getting ""bound up"" and that he needed to look with the camera. He inserted the camera and showed us ""large roots in the pipe"" with standing water beyond them so he could not look any farther. He then proceeded to tell us that our whole yard needed to be dug up with machines and the entire pipe replaced. The quote for this work was just shy of $5000 and could be started in the next couple days. The quote included up to 20 feet of pipe replaced, but he stated that it could be a lot more depending on how many feet of pipe were affected. (Now, knowing what we know, there is no way it would be more than 20 feet because of law) We were devastated. He then insisted that I pay a 50% deposit for the 5K estimate in order for him to be able to inquire about scheduling the following morning - this seemed very abnormal to me. Luckily I refused and said that I only felt comfortable paying a deposit if I knew when the work could be completed. He left and said he would call us in the morning with more information. We couldn't sleep once he left. Something seemed amiss - How could roots just suddenly obstruct flow? How could we need to dig up our yard without first checking the tank to see if it was full (it had not been pumped in 6 years!)? How did he know where his camera was in relation to our septic tank - he couldn't find the tank outside? The next morning while waiting for Mr Rooter to call us back, I called a local plumber. He warned me on the phone that Mr Rooter is FAMOUS for this SCAM. I asked this plumber if he could come in the next few hours to give us a second opinion - he obliged. When Drew from Mr Rooter called later in the morning and said that they couldn't get the ""DIG TEAM"" here to our house until Friday morning I said that for now I would pass on scheduling the service because this was an ""urgent matter"" and I needed to get it fixed that same day. Then it got really shady - Drew proceeded to tell me that he would CANCEL the scheduled work that the team had on the books for that day so that the Dig Team could come to my house the same day. I told him that I didn't feel right cancelling another customer that was in a similar bind as myself just for my own benefit He then told me that ours was a ""BIGGER more costly job"" and that they didn't want to lose the work Now I knew I had done the right thing - this was very poor business practice and was starting to seem very unethical! I politely declined and said I would call back if I had trouble finding someone that could come that same day. The local plumber arrived. He immediately found the lid to our septic tank and dug WITH A HAND SHOVEL for a few minutes. The tank was a mere 10 feet from our house under some a few inches of mulch in the landscaping bed! He informed us of the max of 20 feet from the house law. The tank was full to the brim! and had some small roots in it where the pipe enters the tank Turns out that Evan the night before had his snake and his camera IN OUR SEPTIC TANK - the 8 or so feet of pipe that we have is in perfect shape- We simply had the septic tank pumped out on Thursday and used a shovel and rake to remove the hair like roots from the entrance of the pipe to the tank. How can this be! Mr Rooter was going to come to our house - dig up our leach field b/c that is where they thought the tank was! - charge us $5000!!!! AND WHAT THEN? WE JUST NEEDED OUR SEPTIC TANK PUMPED! The estimate that Evan gave us didn't even mention the septic tank!! Were they going to check it first? At least try to find it? Even if our pipe would have needed to be replaced no heavy machinery was needed - a simple shovel removed the inches of mulch and soil that were in the way! I would not recommend Mr Rooter to ANYONE - buyer beware! I am also contacting the Better Business Bureau and the NY consumer protection board. These people are trouble and scam artists to boot!
