Cal-Home sent out Max to do repair work under warranty through First American Home Warranty. Max was a first class repairman. Since my plumbing was Moen brand and I was the original owner (21 years) Max helped me ask Moen for a completely new, free, kitchen facet with spray head. If you have work done by Cal-Home, ask for Max. He's the best.

I've had some bad experiences with other contractors sent out by my home warranty company, but the Cal-Home tech sent for my issue, Ken Moore, was professional, pragmatic, and easy to work with. He had to get a new part to fix the issue, and he came back on the second visit with two sets of parts, giving him flexibility for whichever way things panned out. If you're working with Cal-Home, ask for Ken. Great guy. If he becomes the bearer of bad news from the home warranty co. side, don't shoot the messenger. But assuming the work is authorized, he'll take good care of you.

This is a review of combined Cal-home and AHS. Cal-Home was sent by AHS for sink clog. Don't know if I heard wrong from AHS, Cal-Home tried to snake 3 feet and could not clear, so between them, they determined: 1) the problem was advanced which would be caused by bigger issue with the pipes, tree root, advanced issue, etc. 2) may need to clear clog from roof vent, Cal-Home doesn't do that, and AHS doesn't cover that.

Naturally AHS still charged me the 75.00 copay and kicked any warranty on the sink pipes out the door.
Hired Power Plumber & Rooter 2 days later and they cleared the clog with a snake, had to pull hair out, and that cleared the sink pipe. Power plumber can also do Roof Vent if needed. Checked internet review warned don't do clear pipe through Roof vent unless have to. That was because some roof vent may not align with the Pipes exactly and may cause damage.

This is the second time AHS send someone that not only cannot do the job, but this time I was charged for it in additional.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't be renewing the AHS warranty.

Cal-Home repaired the claim I submitted through First America Home Warranty, but they ended up damaging the pipe by scratching the bronze metal. The pipe is visible as it is used in the shower area, otherwise I would not care. As Cal-Home is a contractor for First American Home Warranty (terrible service), seems as through they didn't care much about what happens afterwards. Unfortunately for me, I was sent to the collection agency during the open dispute I had with First American home Warranty. No reason why they have two stars. Furthermore, sad to see a company like First American Home Warranty use a less than average company to repair items, then again, First American is just as bad. Two wrongs don't make a right in this case.

Despite my reservations, my home warranty sent these guys the work order... and surprisingly it wasn't terrible.

The problem was fixed... except the problem that my warranty company FORGOT to include in said work order!!! Like how do they forget tk do their ONLY job?! Whatever, the plumbing tech couldn't touch the unlisted issue due to liability concerns (totally get that, completely understandable, not their fault).

Only complaint is that he used a tool to remove the bathtub stopper, and decided to leave the stopper sitting on the edge of the tub... which I didn't think was too big a deal UNTIL we tried to twist it back in!! Of course he was already gone by then... and apparently, it isn't that simple-- we have a special stopper :(

Put in new AO hot water heater in 2 years ago and everything was great, but it went out and when I called them to service it they said they did not service AO hot waters heaters anymore and did not service my area.

Terrible service after only 2 years installed. We have been w/o hotwater for 6 days because the hot water heater went out at Christmas.

This company is unethical & unprofessional. They proved last minute hidden cost, choose materials that require modifications, install hot water heaters without permits even when permits are REQUIRED by the City of Oakland. I will file a complaint with the State contractors licensing board.

On May 30th 2016, I contacted my home insurance First American Home Buyers Protection Corp because my water heater was leaking. They assigned me Cal Home Constuction Inc (license# 861849) company to fix the problem. Their contractor Max came to my home on Jun 3rd to replace the water heater. After the finished the job and left, I found out that the water heater was still leaking. I called Max, he said that he will come back in 15 mins. After 1 hour he finally arrived and fixed the leak. During that time water was all over the place. Max didn't clean after himself leaving piece of pipe after him and didn't remove the water from the wood stand, he just put the new water heater on the top. So, I had water on that wooden stand for at least couple of days making wodden stand rot. He also didn't install the drip pan underneath of the water heater, so, now if I'll have another leak, instead of the water go outside of my house, it will leak straight into it. Most important they didn't have permit, nor inspect came to check his work. I contacted Clayton City Hall and asked when the permit was issued, and suprise! it was never requested! Basically, they did installation without permit from the city. After speaking with Jane (their office manager), she told me that they will request it later, retroactively. It's been already 3 weeks since they install the water heater. Previously, 2 weeks ago, Jane told me that they are in the process in obtaining the permit.
Also, Cal-Home Construction is charing for the parts that come with water heater. As a result, they charged me $465. I hired independent licensed contractor who checked their work, he told me that what they mark as a ""hard pipe"" on top of water heater, appears to be ""flexible pipe"". Wood support $70, (2 small 2x4s that were nailed to the wall behind the water heater).
this is the break down what they gave me:
MOD. HARD PIPE ON TOP W/H - $210 (not hard, but flexible pipe)
MOD. T/P LINE - $110
MOD. AIR VENT - $75
WOOD SUPPORT - $70
Although my receipt shows 6 items in non-understandable language (they did it on purpose) instead of 4.
