Stay away from this guy Derwin Cain!
He is a cheat and unprofessional. We had to completely tear down both the kitchen & bathroom and re-do it with a different contractor. And Also he messed up the entire house flooring while his crew was in the property.
Do not hire him and save your money, time and head ache.
I had a hot water heater flood my home for the first time. The floor was completely ruined and I needed to scramble to find someone to put in a new floor. Derwin seemed like such a nice guy - he came right away, was pleasant, and seemed to know what he was talking about. But after the floor was in, it started to bubble... and I mean these were HUGE bubbles. The floor even came completely apart in one spot. Derwin said he could come by and have a look at a specific date/time. I took the time off from work to be there when he wanted to come, but he never arrived. I even offered to pay him to come and fix his own work - but it's been months and despite dozens of phone calls, text messages, and emails, Derwin has completely gone silent. He won't even write an email back.
In the meantime, I've paid someone else a thousand dollars to come and fix the disaster Cain Construction left. The flooring expert who I paid to fix Derwin's work was not surprised that the floor had bubbled given the method that Cain Construction used to lay it in the first place.
So in short, you would have to be completely out of your mind to hire Cain Construction to do any project of any type - the quality of the work I had done was exceedingly poor and the service was literally nonexistent.
Here's a list of completely ridiculous things listed on the website:
""Trust, one of the things we build well""
""We are true wood flooring craftsmen and we deliver""
""Quality and satisfaction on every project""
I hope that my experience illustrates how none of the statements above is true. Hopefully this will save others from the same headaches and expense Cain Construction caused me.
I hired Cain Construction to replace my flooring, repair my kitchen (walls, floors and ceiling) because of a flood. First, his prices were extremely high and secondly everything they did had to be redone!!!!!!!!!!! The floor was laid good, but the doorways were done wrong so the flooring had to be redone. The paint looked nice but was never finished, additional coats were never done, baseboards were left off and undone and paint was left on my NEW floors. I had to have the paint all done AGAIN! The worse is they did not correct the ceiling and lights so my kitchen cabinets were not hung properly. This was discovered when the border for my cabinets would not cover the cabinets. They were crooked. I had to have the entire job redone. I am contacting the BBB because they not only did not deliver, but after being paid, did not complete the job. They also left their drill, huge electric saw and painters ladder in my house. Who does that? I will tell you who, someone that runs out on a job. Derwin Cain sent me an email to say he was not going to finish the job. I wish I could upload a copy. Derwin Cain is unprofessional and has NO work ethics. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. AVOID THEM AT ALL COST. He will do just as Liz T. and Tai D. said in their reviews. I know because he did the same to me. If anyone writes a favorable review for this company, don't believe them.
Don't let these con artists near your home. They ripped me off over $12.5K and wasted 4 months of my time. On November 2017 I signed a contract with Derwin Cain to plumb in 2.5 bathrooms and wire a new kitchen. He got a supposed licensed plumber to pull a permit, but then got an unlicensed hack to do the work. The job was supposed to be finished in two weeks, but by early April they had just barely finished the plumbing on the first floor which was nowhere near to code and had long since stopped returning my phone calls. The original hack 'plumber' disappeared by January, then Derwin brought the permit holder in to finish the job, but expected me to pay him extra for this new guy. When I refused, he stopped returning my calls. The new plumber, Larry Matthews showed up sporadically over the next couple of months and when he did he 'worked' for a couple of hours and basically accomplished nothing. He didn't have a car or tools and relied on friends to drive him over to my house. At one point he asked me for gas money so he could get back home. You can see the stellar quality of his work in the pictures. Eventually even old Larry stopped showing up and all further calls went unanswered. One thing he did accomplish was ruining two $150 shower valves by over heating them when he tried to solder the copper to them. The plumber I eventually hired couldn't salvage them and said the plastic inside them was most likely melted. A little while ago I was chatting with my neighbor and she said that over the winter she saw some guys show up at the house a few days a week but they didn't seem to do much except sit on the porch swing and drink beer. I called in a real plumbing company shortly after and they couldn't find anything usable in the work that had been done as none of it was to code and I had to rip it all out before they would start. Two weeks later they were finished and the rough inspection passed. Derwin may not know anything about plumbing but he is a good con artist. He registered himself with the State of Massachusetts as a home improvement contractor under his own name but signed my contract with his Cain Construction LLC name. Because of this I am unable to get the HIC board to mediate in this case and get any resolution. Thanks Derwin.
Long story short, I've filed a complaint via the Better Business Bureau because the tiled shower wall is not complete and it's been over two months since Cain Construction last visited.
Contractor has told us that he would trim the grout and paint the hardie backer. Neither has been done. Additionally, grout is not completely filled in or has begun to crack. We have contacted the owner (via email and phone) to see if he can come by and check on his employee's work as we are not comfortable with contacting or working with his employee again due to our experience with him. An appointment was made (about 2 months after the job was complete) with the owner - a date and time he suggested - but when the day and time came, owner was too busy and needed to reschedule. This was after reaching out to the owner when it was 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment. For the rescheduled appointment, owner did not show up or respond to text that he was not making the appointment as discussed.
Derwin was initially quite responsive to my inquiry about ripping up existing carpeting on a stairway and refinishing the wood. He arrived late for the job, and was supposed to return a second day to complete the job (second coat a poly, paint risers) and never showed! Derwin stopped responding to my texts/calls because I had already paid him in full. Additionally I realized after taking a closer look - the stairs were not even sanded well and I need to have them completely re done.
